The Peripheral is an 8 episode sci-fi thriller drama coming to Prime Video on October 21,  based on the bestselling novel by William Gibson.

The Peripheral centers on Flynne Fisher, a woman trying to hold together the pieces of her broken family in a forgotten corner of tomorrow’s rural American South, working at the local 3D printing shop, and earning much needed extra money playing VR games for rich people. Flynne is smart, ambitious, and doomed.  She has no future. Until the future comes calling for her. Flynne's brother Burton is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps’ elite Haptic Recon force, is hired for a security job which takes place in what he thinks is cyberspace. When Flynne fills in for him at work, doning a new kind of headset, she finds herself in futuristic London, a sleek and mysterious world, alluringly different from her own hardscrabble existence. 

But this isn’t like any game she’s ever played before: Flynne begins to realize it isn’t virtual reality… it’s real. Someone in London, seventy years in the future, has found a way to open a door into Flynne’s timeline. And as utterly beguiling as London is… it’s also dangerous. She witnesses something that might have been murder. As Flynne searches to discover who has connected their worlds, and for what purpose, her presence there has set dangerous forces into motion… forces intent on destroying Flynne and her family in her own time.

Looks amazing, but I'm always cautious of Gibson adaptations.  Seems like a mashup of eXistenZ, Ready Player One, and Inception.

I'll give it a shot.

Is there any indication as to whether this show was considered a success for Amazon or not? 
Streaming services tend not to disclose viewership numbers that are not flattering - - but they do tend to announce the approval of the next season when shows are well received.
From a media buzz factor, this show did not appear to be getting much attention.

Early next year TNT will be running a show called The Lazarus Project (It's already aired in the UK.) In it, the actor Anjli Mohindra plays a woman who works for the female head of a London based agency that has the ability to manipulate time in order to influence the occurrence of existential threats to humanity. Nuclear war, pandemics etc.

It’s so nice to see a sci-fi show actually get another season and this has been my favorite of the last year. Good acting, interesting mystery. So happy about this.

So nothing is ever really renewed anymore, I guess. Now that shows which have even been filmed are being cancelled and vaulted, I guess nothing counts as renewed until you’ve already watched the whole damn thing.

Anyway, this is a waste. It was a good show and deserved better.

That's sad. It was a decent, thoughtful, thought-provoking show in a sea of mediocre ones. Guess I'll go reread the books.
