Razzberry August 11, 2022 Share August 11, 2022 (edited) My local library has only !% digitalized books available, so I'm always looking for bargains. Amazon will often have great sales but you have to be quick - prices can change overnight without warning. Here are a few that I've found while browsing, but haven't necessarily read yet. Will update. Personally my tastes run to history, historical fiction, non-fiction, Old Hollywood and some true crime, but feel free to post any deals you know of in whatever genre you enjoy, to share. Thanks. SmithW6079 August 12, 2022 Share August 12, 2022 Have you checked out Project Gutenberg? They offer free, out-of-copyright e-books in various formats. You have to download them first & then transfer to your Kindle, but I've read many of the classics that way. I'm a big fan of science fiction of the "Golden Age," so I love discovering stories that were published in the old sci-fi magazines. 1 2 1 Link to comment

I liked it for the first half, but then he became obsessed with the biting sand flies and leishmaniasis. I guess this was the "medical mystery" hyped on the cover, but there really was no mystery about that. Then all the pictures included were tiny and worthless on the Kindle, not that they included any artifacts anyway. I thought it was poorly edited for a big publishing imprint. I'm really loving this one though, written about the two guys who uncovered so many Mayan ruins in the 19th century. Jungle of Stone: Discovery of the Lost Civilization of the Maya pages 544 Free w/Prime I finally finished this last night. What a fascinating story! What a great movie this would make! It's incredible the things they found and the dangers they faced (natural and political) to get there. AND their adventures before and after their exploration of Central America and Mexico. I did take the book with me on vacation earlier this month. It was sort of surreal sitting on the beach in Cancun, reading about Stephens and Catherwood landing on the beach in Cancun. I also followed them to Tulum to see the ruins. (Couldn't manage a trip to Chichen Itza, darn it.) I think now I'd like to read their book to hear Stephens' version of the story. It's available on Amazon (of course). 2 Link to comment

sugarbaker design December 27, 2022 Share December 27, 2022 (edited) Good ones indeed! Sister Carrie and The Age of Innocence are two of my personal favorites! Lev Raphael also writes a series of murder mysteries featuring Nick Hoffman, a professor at a college in Michigan. Nick's claim to fame: he has written a bibliography of Edith Wharton. One of his titles is The Edith Wharton Murders. Edited December 27, 2022 by sugarbaker design 1 Link to comment
