I dated a woman until I found out her house looked very similar to Gretchen's apartment. I had always wondered why she insisted on coming to my place all the time. Then, I saw hers and figured it out. I couldn't date her after that, because I couldn't stop myself from thinking that if her place was that dirty, how dirty was her body? Fair or not, I had to end it. Anyway, this episode was just okay for me. I didn't like the way they handled Edgar's PTSD. And Lindsay with her jaw wired shut just wasn't funny to me. I did like the scenes with Sam and his explanation of Craftsman homes. I wouldn't mind more of Sam on the show and less of Lindsay. Link to comment
arc August 8, 2014 Share August 8, 2014 (edited) I liked all of Edgar's arc in the ep. The cold open wasn't just showing off Jimmy's selfishness, it started Edgar's story, which continued with the war memorial story and then the appalling actors, and then capped with that awful TV movie, and yet he also bounced nicely off of LIndsey. I just liked the whole episode, really. (And I'm with Jimmy. A laptop screen is not a TV. Too small.) Edited August 8, 2014 by arc 3 Link to comment
Nellise August 8, 2014 Share August 8, 2014 (edited) Is it weird I find the characters in this show less awful than the ones in Married? They're a little mean, but actually seem to have fun and aren't stupid. I picked the initial military guy on the bench as being an actor right away so that made that plot a bit boring. Then I got into this weird thought loop that I'm watching an actor pretending to be a veteran getting mad at other actors pretending to be veterans and it ruined any emotion I might have had for that scene because I made my head hurt. The movie at the end cracked me up though, so awful. I really like Jimmy and Gretchen together. Whenever they do fight I feel like their arguments are realistic and then they actually resolve their problems quickly and decently. Edited August 8, 2014 by Nellise Link to comment

I don't want to say it was "real" because I've never dealt with PTSD but it felt realistic that he'd try to figure out the PTSD himself even knowing he wasn't doing such a great job. He's a pretty awesome guy but clearly there's part of him that will be messed up until he gets more structured help. That might happen in this series. It might not. Not everyone seeks out professional help even if they suspect they could benefit from it. Is it weird I find the characters in this show less awful than the ones in Married? I've only seen two episodes of "Married" and while it appears as if the characters are getting better, I'd agree that Jimmy and Gretchen are less awful. Or maybe I'm more forgiving because they're more self aware and they have people calling them on the awful things they do. Plus, there's a well written humanity behind their awfulness. I really hope FX gives this show a chance. I get why they paired it with Married but it may have worked better with It's Always Sunny... 1 Link to comment

Married talked about some college girl getting jizzed on her face and one of the main characters dwelled on it for rest of the episode. YTW talked about a woman wiring her teeth shut (to lose weight) but more to prevent putting "bad things" in her mouth and FX promoted that sound bite over and over again. And the main female character talks about getting viruses on her computer from porn sites. These shows would not only be broadcast on NBC or ABC, it's doubtful they'd be shown on HBO or Showtime.
