I'm watching "Time" (August, 2021), an extremely dark new series on Britbox. I'd like to know if anyone is aware of any forums on any site anywhere to get warnings about violence levels. The series is a realistic and perhaps too realistic story about an older man's introduction into British prison, and a parallel story about a corrections officer. The first episode is not for the faint of heart. While I'd like to continue with it, I'd like some advisories.

Britbox has such hidden as well as well-known gems. It's a shame there's no forum devoted to it, but I'll go somewhere other than Primetimer if necessary. I'd just like to know where to find discussions.

Thank you.

I "live" on Britbox - well not literally but do most of my entertainment viewing on it as British TV series are generally more appealing to me than American ones. There is another forum for "Streaming Services" but I'm happy to discuss Britbox stuff here. I was considering watching Time as the cast looks really good and its only three episodes but it may be too depressing for me. I don't mind violence as long as it is not what is commonly referred to as "torture porn" (GoT I'm looking at you here).

Currently watching the third season of Whitehall, finished all the Vera seasons so waiting on the next one there, watching I think the third season of Doctor Blake Mysteries, watched all the Midsomer Murders that they showed up to season 17 and then switched over to Hulu (and when I get caught up, will switch back for season 21), watched everything Agatha Christie related except the Poirot (because I saw them all on PBS when they were originally shown and I prefer Marple to Poirot)...oh, and the McDonald and Dodds series which has got better as it has gone along. Although I saw them when they were originally shown (yes, I am old), I'm starting over from the beginning with Bergerac because its been so long I have forgotten any of the plots and can enjoy them as if they were new. Watched all the Father Brown episodes (both the one set in the 1920s and the one set in the 1950s) and I'm sure I'm forgetting something but you get the point :)

Not a discussion forum, but when I'm wondering about content--namely, whether I want to watch something with my grandparents--I like to check the parent guides on IMDB. This is the one for Time.

Try https://www.doesthedogdie.com/ I looked and there is a 2021 TV show listed that does show several trigger warnings.  If this is the same one you saw I do sincerely thank you because I would probably have started it myself.

Thank *you*. I've gotten through Episode 2, and it's honestly brilliant. Sean Bean is superb as an aging first-time incarcerated man--with a higher degree (he plays an English teacher). Episode 2 was so violent in parts I muted the volume.

However, considering the setting, the violence is not gratuitous. I speak for myself when I say that only violence-for-violence sake, as well as violence as a "selling point" for a series or film, are beyond my tolerance level. "Time" is gruesome but not gratuitous.

Thank you again for the site suggestion.

Oh, yes, I check IMDB. However, the propensity for 1) spoilers; 2) iffy motives for both positive and negative reviews (just subscribe to IMDB Pro for a month, and you'll see what I mean); and 3) repetitive reviews keeps IMDB a resort of last choice for me. Jeff Bezos shot IMDB through the heart when he destroyed the resource of IMDB's discussion boards.

Thank you.

I don't look at the reviews, though, for content warnings, and I would never suggest IMDB as a resource to anyone for the reviews. That's why I linked the parental guide specifically as opposed to the reviews for the show. I agree with you on loss of the discussion boards. I like perusing the archives versions but hate that they're no longer functioning for continued discussions or newer material.

My apologies. I have no children and must have zoned out the "parental guide" part.

No worries! I don't have kids either but have found it a quite useful resource in helping me determine if I want to watch certain shows, especially with my grandparents or just helping them find something they want to watch. (They don't like anything too explicit, graphic, or profanity-laden, and it's been the best source I've found for vetting content beforehand.)

I am really interested in Time now because of this discussion. I'd not heard anything about its release, but it sounds excellent and am looking forward to trying it! :)

I just watched the first episode of Pie in the Sky. Anyone else seen this?

The police/chef show? My parents really liked this back in the day, and I watched some too. For me, Richard Griffiths will always be Henry Crabbe. Further, my head casting for Seawoll from the Rivers of London books is Freddy Fisher.

Yes, the police/chef one. I’m intrigued by the set-up.

I remember it being some good lighthearted fun. Nothing too serious. Enjoy!

I just watched something good:  Mrs. Biggs, docudrama about the 1963 great train robbery.  Really great series, from more than 10 years ago.  It focuses on the wife of one of the robbers.

Shakespeare and Hathaway-a detective agency. It's whimiscal and fun. Set in Stratford, England. Frank Hathaway is the typical grumpy former cop turned detective in wrinkled clothes. Luella Shakespeare is new to being a detective she hires Frank to find out if her fiance is cheating on her and then when he's murdered and she's framed for it. It's a really fun show. They use names and sometimes whole characteristics from Shakespeare plays.  Some of the episodes can be surprising touching. One their searching for a Russian oligarchs private vault suppose to be full of his prized paintings. It is...the paintings from his son who died when he was six. Helping them is Sebastian who wants to be an actor he's always going undercover and very dramatic.

I love the opening theme and wish I could find more like it.

I too agree! I love the music on Shakespeare & Hathaway. Also the scenery. I just checked to see where it was actually filmed, which is Stratford-upon-Avon and in the area. I've visited twice. I even got to eat at the Dirty Duck/Black Swan, wonderful pub atmosphere and good food.

That sounds like so much fun. Your so lucky.
