Andre is a damn fool. You don’t let a woman you just met into your WORK COMPUTER! If she legit wanted to watch porn that’s what her phone is for. Dumbass. I guess there wasn’t enough blood flow to his brain.

So I’m guessing Mercedes bio daughter is being raised by her paternal aunt- Cortez was her dad and that’s likely that woman’s deceased brother. I 100% agree with Mercedes breaking up the party (because duh it was inappropriate), but am I correct in that she told the girl she would deserved to be raped because she threw a party?? (Please tell me if I misinterpret that scene) Wtf. Mercedes no. Wanting to keep her young charges focused on valuable things (and not likes or attention) and teaching them you don’t want everything on the Internet is a good thing- but telling them they deserved to be raped because they made stupid choices isn’t going to protect them from sexual violence! Wtf.

I agree with all of this.

However, I was raised in the south (GA) and there used to be a lot of pressure on women and young girls to not only be responsible for their own sexuality but to control the sexuality of any males around them. It was on the girl to make sure she  was not "asking for trouble".

Or course, this type of mentality is ignorant as hell but I can believe that someone with M's background would believe it.😞

I'm so glad I found this forum. And yes, I agree. Andre ain't shit. Not only is he emotionally cheating on his wife, and it's only a matter of time before it really does get physical without interruption, but dude, pulling this shit on your work computer? IT must've had a field day.

Unfortunately, I don't think you misinterpreted it at all. Given the culture and her evil-ass mother, I'm sure Mercedes heard that and then some growing up, so it transfers over to the next generation.

I thought Mercedes was saying she deserved to get used, not raped, cause no boy who's gonna convince her to do that would be interested in her for anything other than getting an easy screw.

I loved the kid who correctly assessed that "nah, somebody about to get they assed whooped!"

And uhm, can we talk about the sleeping beauty thing?  What in the hell are these dudes into?!?! That shit was weird.

Also interesting to see that Uncle Clifford and the "dark-skin" Kyle brother are childhood friends.

Also, also I'm loving the bouncer.

I was wondering how this woman got custody. I'm curious how old Mercedes was when she got pregnant and how old her daughter's father was. When she said she'd end up 13 and pregnant I wondered if that was the age Mercedes got pregnant with her daughter.

What's interesting is that it isn't some big secret that her daughter doesn't know about. She knows that Mercedes is her biological mother and she knows that she chose to give her up so that she could have a chance for a better life. Most shows might have kept this as a surprise reveal, but I like that this show doesn't always do what's expected. I feel bad for Mercedes though that she's going to lose out on the only regular time she gets to spend with her daughter. That's heartbreaking.

I'm curious to learn more about this relationship. Obviously there's longterm trust between them but I wonder what made Corbin feel he could confide in Clifford in the first place. It seems like Clifford knew the secret about Corbin's father back when they were kids.

I worried that Mercedes was raped when she was that age and has wrongly blamed herself for being attacked. Maybe she blames herself and is afraid that the same thing will happen to her daughter.

Obviously Mercedes needs therapy (her daughter probably does too) because her POV on everything that she said to her daughter in that scene is incredibly sad, damaging, and wrong.
