  1. The Doug Loves Movies "Mark Wahlberg" has completely supplanted real Mark Wahlberg in my brain at this point. It's all I ever think of when I hear the name. I have to actually remind myself that there's a real Mark Wahlberg out there who doesn't appear on comedy movie game show podcasts.
  2. I really wish I agreed with this because I think Reagan is a cool character and I love seeing Amy with someone who's really into her (and who she seems to be really into) and I certainly love that she's getting some action, but I did not like the actress playing Reagan at all. I thought something seemed off (stilted or forced) in some of her line deliveries and in particular her voice bugs me.
  3. Maurice and Lydia for sure for season 6. Season 7...I just don't really love any of them. I'm going to go with Jenn, I guess.
  4. These are the only ones I could remember.
  5. Actually, related to thirtysomething, as mentioned in the podcast that same crew created Once and Again, which also seems to be at least sort of in TV jail. As far as I know the last season was never even released on DVD. And it never reruns anywhere and doesn't appear to stream anywhere. It was never as significant as thirtysomething but I really liked that show and think it could probably find some current audience.
  6. I can pretty much ditto TLK, which makes sense since we live in the same state. Though possibilities also lives in our state, and while I don't necessarily feel the same passion she does for voting I do agree that it makes a difference. How huge a difference may depend on the particular candidates and/or the particular office, but I have never felt like it makes no difference. And that we have a senator I'm damn proud of.
  7. Underground fungus (Field Trip) Bernard Oates (Monday) Max Harden (Rush) Donnie Pfaster (Orison) Henry Weems’ good luck (The Goldberg Variation) Unfortunately I will be of no help whatsoever with season 9 and probably none with season 8 since I only remember a handful of episodes and most of them are mytharc anyway.
  8. Holman Hardt (The Rain King) Wayne Weinsider (Terms of Endearment) Antenna emitting ELF waves (Drive) Herman/Albert Pinchbeck and Billy LaBonge (The Amazing Maleeni) Henry Weems’ good luck (The Goldberg Variation)
  9. I haven't finished listening to the epsiode yet but I just had to come here to say that I have been saying FOR YEARS to basically anyone who is polite enough not to ignore me that Square One TV (and, if not the whole thing, then at least Mathnet) should be available...somehow. I don't care how. DVD, streaming, rerunning. And I'm with Tara in being surprised that neither Dave nor Sarah watched it. I loved that show and it's one of the few shows (actually, I venture to guess it was the only show) that my entire family watched together. Well, my sisters and I watched the whole thing and then my parents would join us for Mathnet. In fact, one of my clearest memories of childhood is of my sisters and me running through the house in the short leadup to Mathnet yelling for my parents, "MATHNET'S ON! MATHNET'S ON!" I've showed some clips to some of my students over the years and they've mostly seemed entertained/amused. And these are high schoolers. That's not to say they would watch it, but I think it indicates that younger kids still would.
  10. All right! Time for actual voting! Sea monster (Agua Mala) Dr. Ian Detweiler (Alpha) Doppelgangers (Fight Club) Ellen Adderly (Chimera)
  11. I never get a lot of trick-or-treaters but for the second year in a row I was out on Halloween. It makes me feel a bit like a bad neighbor that I'm not there to see the neighbor kids' costumes, but I don't like to pass up other plans when I know not many people come to my house anyway. So I put out a bowl of candy. Most of it was gone when I got home but there was some left. And there were several pieces of candy in the bowl that I didn't put there. So I guess since kid traded some of their other candy for mine?
  12. Season six is really a season of light villains, huh? There's not much in the way of really creepy or scary. But then it's generally considered a light season, so that makes sense. In some cases (and in season 7, too) it's almost hard to consider the character a villain at all. Like Holman? Yeah, he was making the bad stuff happen, but still... And same for Jenn in "Je Souhaite". And Henry Weems (although I guess we're saying it's the luck that's the villain and not actually him, but even so it kind of seems like a villainless episode). Anyway, I'll get to the voting. Starting with episodes/villains that I hardly remember. In the next round I'll probably go with things/people I don't really consider villainous enough to rank high. Sea monster (Agua Mala) Dr. Ian Detweiler (Alpha) Pinker Rawls (Trevor) Doppelgangers (Fight Club) Ellen Adderly (Chimera) Tobacco executives using super beetles (Brand X)
  13. Man, how much do I love that Bruce Harwood will just go around in an XF shirt? Source
  14. Kevin Smith had a dog named Scully, too. I had a cat named Spooky:
  15. So...this is sort of embarrassing, but I'm going to share it anyway because it does really show that I have a problem where XF is concerned. So the other night I was watching some porn (that right there would be the embarrassing part) and I noticed a tattoo on one of the performers that's the letter "X" in the XF font (which, by the way, is one of the only things I've ever even semi-seriously considered getting as a tattoo myself). Immediately I was thinking, 'Wait, is that an XF tattoo? Or just the letter X and it happens to be the same font. It's got to be XF, right?" So I switched from watching porn to googling the actress's name along with "x-files" to see if I could confirm that it was in fact intended as an X-Files tattoo. And I found a Reddit AMA she'd done where she talked about being a huge X-Phile (and being hot for David Duchovny) and said she was even watching XF while doing the AMA. So then I checked out her Twitter and her Tumblr and saw she'd posted various XF things in the past. And for some reason it was really exciting to me to discover that this woman is a 'Phile even though...I mean, she's just this chick I saw in a porn video. It's not like I know her! So anyway...yeah. I might have a problem. (More than one, likely.)
  16. Choosing between Leonard Betts and Eddie van Blundht feels like when we were doing best episodes and I had to choose between Memento Mori and Small Potatoes. It's similar in that, like those two episodes, these are two really really excellent villains that are completely different in tone. Leonard's so tormented and complicated and Eddie's kind of pathetic but endlessly entertaining (while...also being a rapist). But I think I'm going to go with what I did last time, and let the significance of one push it over the edge. Leonard's comment to Scully was so significant and so memorable (both in its importance and in the way it was delivered, because you really do believe that he is sorry) that I have to pick him. Leonard Betts For season five I actually don't think any of those villains are all that great as villains, so I'm picking the most entertaining, if only for the "You are in big trouble," bit.
  17. Gerry Schnauz (Unruhe) The Peacock family (Home) John Lee Roche (Paper Hearts) The killer Chinga doll (Chinga) The “Mothman” creature (Detour) Linda Bowman (Kitsunegari)
  18. It sort of works this way in at least some parts of PA. Order a lager and you get Yuengling. I haven't spent enough time in PA to know how big a region this applies to, but my sister used to live in Wilkes-Barre and from talking to her and hanging out with her and her friends there I know that at least in and around Wilkes-Barre that's the way to order a Yuengling in a bar. I honestly don't know that I ever heard anyone order it by name. It was always just "lager".
  19. Jason Nichols (Synchrony) Dr. Charles Goldstein (Demons) Nurse Innes (Elegy) Charles Wesley Gotts (Mind’s Eye) Aaron Starkey (All Souls) The killer Chinga doll (Chinga)
  20. Jason Nichols (Synchrony) Golem (Kaddish) Nathaniel Teager (Unrequited) The tree monster through Karin Matthews (Schizogeny)
  21. Samuel Aboah (Teliko) Vernon Ephesian (The Field Where I Died) Jason Nichols (Synchrony)
  22. Man, season two has a great top three, huh? That's an extremely tough call to make. Those are all really interesting villains and really different from each other. I'm going to go with Duane Barry, though. I find him really fascinating. For season three that's an easy choice. Modell number one and Terri and Margi number two.
  23. Flukeworm (The Host) Harry Cokely through BJ Morrow (Aubrey) Leonard, the detachable conjoined twin (Humbug) Robotic Cockroaches (War of the Coprophages) Virgil Incanto (2Shy) Special Agent Bill Patterson (Grotesque)
  24. Contaminated Water (Dod Kalm) Walter Chaco and the other townspeople of Dudley (Our Town) Dr. Banton (Soft Light) Virgil Incanto (2Shy) Carl Wade (Oubliette) Big Blue (Quagmire)
  25. Contaminated Water (Dod Kalm) Dr. Trepkos/Volcanic Lifeform (Firewalker) Col. Wharton (Fresh Bones) Organ harvesters (Hell Money) Neech Manley (The List) Carl Wade (Oubliette)
