  1. So many preview/promo videos! I've stopped watching them all because I don't want to see everything before the premiere. Afterwards, I'm going into spoiler-phobe mode.

  2.

    where was Yasumoto anyway?

Yeah, I'm truly disappointed that there was no conclusion to his arc.

I was never able to buy into the Ethan storyline (why is everyone treating him like a child, HE IS NOT) so I was glad that he finally did something useful and exploded. Then they un-deaded him. ::sigh::

  3. I will be saying goodbye to all of my JJ faves, so without further ado, goodbye to:

    Baby Boy the Poodle

    I weep for your loss.

    -----

The Baby Boy case was about a man who lost his dog(Baby Boy) and was suing to get it back from a woman who apparently bought it from someone shady. Woman refuses to believe that the dog was the plaintiff's and give it back. She brought the dog to court though. JJ tells her to let the dog go and with a quickness it runs over to his true owner! Cue "awww"s from the audience and tears from the plaintiff. Case closed.

  4. I'm sorry if my use of "versus" in the title is confusing; this thread is meant as a place to compare and contrast the show to other versions of Batman (movies/comics/TV).

    ---

The animated series was pretty procedural, too.

  5. Dark but not themselves seriously? Reminds me of Prison Break. Which may be a good thing since that show ran on comic book logic; but it should (hopefully) work better here.

  6. Fox is airing this Mondays at 8pm (Eastern). Paired with Sleepy Hollow at 9pm.

Series premiere is Monday Sept. 22. And its re-airing Friday the 26th at 9pm.

So this is going up against The Big Bang Theory; which I don't watch, but I know it's a juggernaut. And besides that, these two shows may share a lot of the same audience.

Unless Gotham completely flops, I expect this to at least play out its first season, and maybe narrowly get a second season. (DC/WB/Fox seem to be really invested in its success.) It's difficult these days for a genre series to last long, but I hope that --best case scenario-- we get 4 or 5 seasons out of this concept.

  7. My concern with the JPS character is that because she is not cannon, she is entirely expendable. I don't want to get attached to a character just to have her written out.

You never know; Harley Quinn is cannon now, but she was originally created just for the Animated Series. And a few ideas/characters from Smallville have made it into the comics for Superman.

Also, when all the named cannon characters make appearances in this show, it tampers with the actual Batman mythos. If Bruce is still a little boy, how is he actively engaging these characters when he is in his thirties and forties?

It really helps to look at this show as unconnected to any previous Batman continuity.

But I agree that having so many of the iconic characters (especially the villains) here and so early is problematic. I don't like it either, but I'm willing to give the show a chance.

  8. Your equipment shouldn't be an issue. The embedding isn't accomplished by any processing from your machine--it's literally just a URL pasted as clear text into a message.

Ah, thanks. I'll have to test that out.

  9. Yeah, they squeeze in "Ivy Pepper"(ugh), but omit Leslie Thompkins, who would logically be a major character in young Bruce's story?? I'm hoping they find a way to bring her in sooner rather than later.

  10. Info and images from the upcoming comic:

Marvel's original graphic novel Revenge: The Secret Origin of Emily Thorne, written by Erica Schultz with interior art by Vincenzo Balzano and cover art by Dustin Nguyen, will be available digitally and in print on Wednesday, September 3, 2014.

I can't stand the ridiculous direction the show is going in now, but I'm glad to see the Marvel/Disney/ABC corporate partnership deal working out.

  11. Yeah, this was the last good season. I finished out Season 4, but they actually lost me halfway through --

when they decided to NOT go back to the "Blue" universe (the universe of the first 3 seasons).

  12. Two-night premiere:

"Forever" will be kicking off premiere week with two new episodes, with a special sneak preview on Monday, September 22, and a second, all-new episode on Tuesday, September 23, for its regular time period premiere.

    ---

I still have the New Amsterdam pilot on my computer, so I'm going to be comparing it to this show a lot when it airs. The biggest difference, it seems, from all the other similar premises, is that this guy doesn't know why he is immortal.

Hmmm... speaking of of immortal crimefighters/detectives/vampires, has this ever been done with a female lead? (I'm guessing No; none come to mind.)

  13. I know it's going to be the main color scheme, but I hope they don't have everyone in shades of gray all the time. ;-)

The size of the cast (and (visual) tone) kinda reminds me of Prison Break. I assume that we won't see everyone in every episode; but I hope that it doesn't end up like PB season 2, in which there were several storylines going on that barely intersected.

  14. This show is already pretty "out there", but yet the only thing I can't suspend disbelief for is the robot kid. There are just too many things to handwave.

Anyway, the one moment that took me out of the show this week: WhatsHerFace and Gym Guy have these awesome technologically advanced robo-limbs in the future, and then she gives him her contact info with paper. Not that I think paper will be obsolete in the near future, but it seemed especially out of place with that character.

And I keep wondering what this show would be like if the people that worked on Fringe were in charge.

  15. Oh Lord. Why is upfronts always full of actors I like in shows I don't think I'll be able to stand? I want to watch the things you're in John Cho. < ... > This looks awful.

I'm in the same place. I'm neutral on Gillian, and Cho (who I love) looks like the only good thing here -- and that's not enough for me to keep watching.
