Compare and Contrast High Potential Versions
LizBug replied to shapeshifter's topic in High Potential
I'm currently watching the French version (after watching all episodes of the US version). Discovered that ... if you choose to watch it in French with English subtitles, it's much more interesting than if you choose the dubbed version. Seems the dubbed (voice over) version actors are really bland when reading their lines; they're almost emotionless. The French w/English subtitles gives a much more vivid portrayal of the characters even if you're reading the lines. You can catch subtleties in the interactions that aren't available in the dubbed version. That said, I also noticed a shift in how Morgane is portrayed after the first few episodes. During the pilot and maybe through episode 3, she was really covered up in layers of clothing. Maybe it was because those episodes were filmed in colder weather. But ... beginning about episode 4, she started wearing tighter clothing, shorter skirts, shorts ... and her character became more playful. And, although the initial storylines of the US version copied almost directly from the French, that stopped about episode 5. The French version is dealing with subjects that might be hard to get past the US censors ... i.e., murder to harvest body parts, son killing father because father is gay, etc. -
Tournament of Champions - Season 5 Discussion Thread

WOW!! That went faster than I expected. There were actually four rounds of competition with only one upset winner. I'm glad to see some familiar faces as well as some returning contestants. That Wild Card category really threw in an unexpected twist ... canned sardines? graham crackers? And I was happy to see some new faces on the judging panel. -
Loved this final episode and feel that any of the three teams deserved the win. Just one suggestion for future races: can the tasks be scheduled so that they don't finish in the dark?

My favorite part of this episode was watching Rob sign the quote. You could tell he understood it and put such emotion/heart into his delivery.

IMO, the electric rickshaws weren't built for speed. And adding the racers with their backpacks didn't help any. Then, there were the flowers. So, yeah, they weren't able to zip around like the racers wanted.

Ok ... so we were mislead about YamYam voting for Carolyn. But, he did enough talking at Tribal Council to have Carolyn worried. Maybe that will allow her to rethink her loyalty to YamYam. But, I think she feels loyal/protective of Carson.

Wait for the pretty orange trinket to have some significance later on in the game.

Really disappointed that Cassidy didn't win or, at least, get more than one vote. Like others, I felt that Gabler was invisible most of the season. Surprised too by Jesse ... his backstory and desperation for the money to "save his family" led me to believe that he was still one step above being on the streets. And the guy just got his PhD! I know the jury talks to each other at Ponderosa but to develop a whole checklist of points that the final three have to tick off to get their vote seems like total collusion. And those points can be easily manipulated by bitter and outspoken jury members.

I was thinking about Bosch on Freeevee earlier today and came to the conclusion that this is the discount store version. Everything has been downgraded from the Amazon Prime version. And, I think that one of the main problems is the writing. The storylines just don't seem as cohesive and they don't flow as well. Makes it difficult for the cast and the crew to try to salvage it.

Bosch: Legacy Season 2: Michael Connelly confirms "The Crossing" storyline. Harry Bosch has retired from LAPD but his half-brother, defense attorney Mickey Haller, needs his help. The murder rap against his client seems ironclad, but Mickey is sure it's a setup. Though it goes against all his instincts, Bosch takes the case.

Romeo was thrilled to be included in a strategic planning conversation (at last!!); and his vote really counted. Good job, MaryAnne!!

FYI ... The Lincoln Lawyer (Bosch's half-brother, Mickey Haller) series on Netflix begins on Friday, May 13th. View trailer here ... https://www.netflix.com/title/81303831

Watched the first episode of the new season last night. It definitely has a different feel to it ... not quite as slick as the Amazon Prime productions. What I really appreciated, was the fact that the dialogue was understandable (on Amazon, it was sometimes muddled/garbled) and many of the scenes were filmed during the day so it doesn't have that dark, sometimes brooding atmosphere (at least not yet). But, it has Bosch, Honey, Maddie and Coltrane. What more could you want?

Would love to see Drea ousted next week with all of her advantages still in her shorts.
