Why was she no longer there? Just recently Gillian was talking to the doctor about getting out, and appeared completely lucid (as she did in the bath scene and others). Yes, she's been much more submissive than Gillian the powerful madam, but not out-of-it crazy. Is it that the hysterectomy made her realize she was never getting out, and that pushed her over the edge?

Tax rate from 1925 to 1932 was 25%--so she'll still get about a million and a half (over $22 million in today's dollars)

Is it possible Frank Winter won't be back? I don't see the paranoid Mr. Fisher understanding/believing the sound of the door closing on the tape. Or accepting that he was duped into letting Charlie-the-spy go free. It's hard to imagine the show without Frank, but he was getting harsher treatment than the usual suspected spy. Elodie and her husband didn't have bags over their heads. Almost like Frank was heading off to a quick execution in the desert. At least we know there will be a season 2 in 2015. Until this ep I couldn't find anything on the net about a renewal.

"I'm so sorry you weren't satisfied with your meal. Might I offer you some complimentary cannoli?"

How many Gotham ARMED COPS does it take to subdue a guy holding a spike? Answer: Two. One ARMED COP (by himself, and expecting an attack at any moment) simply isn't enough (he'll get startled and drop his gun). Lame, writers.

I believe the 8th Amendment is in effect during this time :P

Anyone else think it odd how calmly Winter reacted to Akley pointing a gun at him? And then being surprised that Akley shot himself?

Agreed. I think she has a high libido (witness her romps with Charlie in earlier eps), and has discovered she's bisexual. Plus she's not getting enough attention from Charlie, so... My take as well. I hope we find out what happens to Elodie. Shame for her to go to prison. Him too, but especially her.

Cranston. Like The Shadow. Yes, and did anyone else notice how much the Balloonman looked like The Shadow in that scene? Scarf and hat. An in-joke, maybe?

Shouldn't the con man have fallen first though? (maybe he landed in a field or the river...) Agree with PPs who said they should have realized what goes up must come down. OTOH maybe they thought (as I sorta did) that they'd reach a equilibrium-ish height and stay there. And the victim freezes to death. If she does, that is. Gordon has motive to keep him a secret. Yup! Noticed that. Yup, a bit much. And kind of a dis to the GCPD, wasn't it? Speaking of the look of GC, are all the city scenes CGI? Very well done. No kidding! My first thought was "Don't you have a peephole in that door??" OTOH, in that kind of high-rise, you'd think they'd have a doorman. And that the doorman would know to call up first. Yep, that was cold. Especially since he had $100 from the other guy. OTOH maybe he killed him to create the job opening he needed.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant that Charlie can't reply to his wife about the husband's threat to her. So he stays mum.
-
I think it's also that Charlie can't say anything about the husband "waiting for Charlie to slip up" (my recollection), without revealing a bit about his work--something he has been very careful ("Mr and Mrs Donaldson) not to do. Plus I wouldn't be surprised if Charlie (in his new role) finds a way to get rid of/humiliate the husband--who's been a thorn in Charlie's side from day 1.

Okay, this relates to a previous episode, but this was bugging me. Even with it being wartime, and the value of money in 1943...why are the WACs charging only $2.50? That equates to $33 in 2014, WAY too low for a roll in the hay. My guess is that $8 (equivalent to $106 today), or even the nice round $10 ($133) was the going rate for call girls in 1943. Plus the fact that the Los Alamos WACs have a much more captive audience than in say NYC, and thus could probably charge $12 and still have plenty of takers. But $8 at a minimum. Why so low?

I'm guessing Mrs Hat With Feathers wore so much perfume that she could smell little else.

Were they violating security protocols by talking about implosion design with Hogarth, in front of the soldiers? I thought they were allowed to discuss that sort of thing only with scientists around, and only in their research buildings.

Why would it take a year to come up with New Blood? And wouldn't the Hep-v vamps be long dead by then? So their market is...vamps who got it from an ever-dwindling number of human carriers? Yeah I'm overthinking this. Really I shouldn't care. And don't, much. ps Eric: Sarah's face on your product, really? The *reason* Hep-v is widespread? Kind of a turnoff for your buyers.

How did shooting Violet kill her? Did Hoyt get some wooden-core bullets? Or has it been established that shooting a TB-universe vamp in the heart kills them?

A few things I wondered about while watching: 1. Why doesn't Jessica have the bleeds? She's been up during daylight for awhile now. Several hours in fact, since it took that long for Sookie to get her results back. 2. Did TB ever address the "why didn't Jessica heal" question? 3. Why is Violet going after Adilyn as revenge on Jason? Or if it's just that tasty fairy blood, why now? And why take them elsewhere to do it, when she can attack her in the treehouse (which is presumably secluded)? 4. Bill wrote a book on Hep-V? Was this mentioned before now?

Anybody else thinking (this ep and the last) that the President's daughter has the worst Secret Service detail ever? (someone did post last week that Audrey never should have been out in the open with tall buildings around). No vetting of the park, only two agents, etc. Might be plausible for a Cabinet member, but never for the First Daughter. Plus the CIA detail should have wrapped her in Kevlar immediately after taking down the sniper, and rushed her to a car. "Oh, Cheng had a second sniper? Dang, we never thought of that!" The writing this season was pretty tight up to that point, but how the writers handled the Chinese killing Audrey was just lazy.

Minor plot quibble: Pam and Eric have a video store in 1996, and the shelves are stocked with DVDs? DVDs didn't replace VHS in stores until about 2000 or 2001. Maybe the True Blood prop people couldn't find VHS tape boxes?
