All Tyson's evil schemes depend on his victim’s stupidity. Lucky for him Beckett & Castle's IQ fluctuates wildly from episode to episode. If he'd caught them on one of their smart days he would have never got away with it. I guess you could throw Lanie in the mix. This episode she's like a genius Sherlock Holmes while in Disciple she didn't even think about the possibility of having been drugged when she came to with no memory of what happened.

I really hate the whole surgical look alike idea. If you accept that as reality then there is really no limit to the stupid shit they could come up with. I just hope they don't go too far down that path.
-
Of course they won't be able to prove it's him. If they could it would be a short episode. That interrogation would be the end & he would either be in jail or shown to be an impersonator. The other question is how is Castle (a PI) in on the interrogation. I guess he's back. You'll probably have to suspend your intelligence along with your disbelief & accept the fact that fake Esposito stole all the evidence proving he's 3XK. Even the evidence from sources in the other states where 3XK has killed. It's not that much to swallow when compared to forgotten marriages & pup tents.

This is the way they write this show. What happened in previous episodes does not figure into the current one (unless it is a deliberate follow up). The audience remembers but the characters don't. From Castle's point of view this is probably the first time this has ever happened. It sometimes makes the characters seem awful stupid but with some of the plot lines they come up with Beckett or Castle being stupid & forgetful is essential.

Her support has been the highlight of this season so far. I enjoy the show so much more when they are a team. I have to say even with the mythology hiccups that so far this season has been much better than the last 2 for me. I just wish they would make the cases more interesting.

Past Seasons Talk: A Mystery Writer and NYC Detectives Solve Crimes
oberon55 replied to maraleia's topic in Castle [V]
It's not near as funny after we found out he was in some sort of a relationship with an agent that ended up being a traitor & tried to execute him. Then they follow up with his daughter being kidnapped and him finding out the reason dear ole dad wasn't in the picture was all because of spy shit. I think at this point that Castle has had a belly full of the CIA. -
That is if they have someway of proving this. Fake Esposito probably stole all fingerprint & DNA evidence (as ridiculous as that was). It is canon that Beckett had a file with Tyson's picture on it in Driven. I'm sure it will turn out to have been an empty file folder with just his picture clipped to it. But then again it was enough that Beckett could eliminate Tyson as a suspect in Castle's disappearance (I would still like to know how the hell she did it) so they have to have some sort of evidence available.

I think the worst thing about the new mythology is the fact that everybody is acting like it didn't happen. Can you imagine coming to all shot, cut & diseased up. Then you find out you were just sort of floating around in the ocean & have been gone for 2 or 3 months & can't remember shit about it. I just can't see myself saying "Oh well I'll worry about it later."

For me it's a question of continuity and who Beckett is as a character. In this world that they have created there have been at least 4 instances of people being framed or impersonated: 1 Castle was impersonated & framed for murder. 2 Esposito was impersonated by a surgical double so well that he could carry a large amount of evidence out of the precinct without getting anybodies attention. 3 Lanie was surgically impersonated right down to her tattoo. 4 Beckett was framed for murder. Now since all these things happened it should have given her room for doubt. I know if it was my fiance I would be looking for any loophole to believe in their innocence rather than immediately assuming the worst. It would have played out so much better if just one person (especially Beckett) had said "Hmm, I wonder if Castle is being impersonated".
-
I don't remember but I think the mob guy said Castle paid him so she was right. The point is she immediately assumed the worst. It's almost like the first time didn't happen. After working with him daily for 4 years & being together for about 6 months she couldn't tell if it was him or not. But now she can spot him in a poor grainy video instantly. We need Castle to be accused one more time to break the tie. So far she's 50/50 in the recognizing Castle on video sweepstakes.

Actually we haven’t seen 3XK since Castle shot him off the bridge. We've just been getting his followers. Which is just as bad if he wants to be invisible. Just another example of how the show contradicts itself. Especially when it comes to 3XK. 1. In Probable Cause Beckett is completely fooled by the video from the jewelry store. She believes it's Castle. Now fast forward to Driven & she's completely certain it's Castle again because she can recognize his movements. Nobody on this show ever learns a damn thing. 2. In Driven Beckett has 3XK's file when she's listing who didn't take Castle. Exactly how the hell she knew 3XK wasn't involved baffled me at the time. And this was after they made such a big deal out of all the evidence being gone. Anyway I'll bet donuts to dollars that if he comes back his file will be gone again. It's like the writers work in a vacuum & have no idea what's happened in the past. Even if they wrote the previous episode.

I have to admit that I enjoyed this episode. The highlights for me: 1. Perlmutter. So much better than Lanie. 2. Their banter together. 3. Semi competent Castle 4. Beckett saying no secrets & telling Castle he better cut that shit out. 5. Alexis was much less irritating in this episode. Small nitpicks: 1. Gates was constantly chewing on Castle's ass with no results. It's like Castle was saying "la la la I can't hear you" & then did whatever the hell he wanted to. 2. Would have liked to see peoples original reaction to Castle getting kicked out. Not sure of the timeline but out of the last 8 maybe 9 months show time Castle has only been at the precinct 2 or 3 months. I guess everybody has adjusted to him being gone.

I have several friends & family members that are either police or sheriff deputies. Every one of them do side jobs. Everything from working security to escorting funerals or high loads. I have been told they make more money on the side than their regular paycheck.

I felt its heavy handed use to keep them apart more than offset any good that came from it. Besides the fact that the whole blackmail scheme to keep her alive was just asinine from start to finish. It was poorly conceived & executed. Sadly it still runs rings around the "new mythology". I would never have believed I would be wishing for the good ole days of mombatross.

The writers never seem to worry about common sense. The fact that she did not know about the Christmas poem means in the whole 7 years that she has known Castle she never received a Christmas card from them. Not only that it also implies that as a fiancee she was not yet considered part of the family. I suspect they wanted her poem about them working together while the audience knew better & worked backwards from there without giving a thought to the implications. Just another example of sloppy writing.

I think "Veritas" shows just how arrogant the writers are. They framed Beckett for Simmons murder & then just ignored that fact. We have no canon explanation for how she was cleared. She found the tape & then magically shows up to arrest Bracken. To quote Jed Clampett from the Beverly Hillbillies "pitiful pitiful pitiful".
-
I thought her mom's case was overblown & ridiculous. The way they finally solved it was completely idiotic. If Montgomery was willing to be incriminated on the tape why not come forward with all the evidence. It was one of the most illogical & unsatisfying conclusions to a long running storyline I have ever seen. I would have preferred Castle never finding out who his father was. I thought spy dad sucked. I think Castle proposed out of desperation not because he was ready for the next step.
-
I think they had Castle & Beckett care about each other too early. I would have preferred a slower pace rather than the silly roadblocks they invented to keep 2 people in love apart. It almost gave me whiplash watching them almost come together only to be torn apart again. I prefer Perlmutter over Lanie. It would not bother me if after this season she was no longer on the show. I wouldn't mind dropping the precinct & seeing Castle & Beckett as private eyes with Cyber Rita as their technical support. Maybe it would breathe some new life into the show.

This is a quote from an article written in 2011. I didn't know they actually had a commercial rating that took into account channel flipping and fast forwarding.
-
Nielson is totally for the advertisers, They really don't care about how many people watched the show. They are attempting to track how many people saw the advertisements. Even though it is technically possible for cable TV to track what channel people watch they have no way of knowing who is in the room watching it. And advertisers are very interested in demographics. In theory Nielson knows if you are between 18 & 50 so somebody is somehow supplying that information. I personally don't want to fill out a questionnaire every time I turn on my television. The main reason they use a small sample is expense. If money was no object they could put a box in millions of homes.

The P.I. situation is a perfect example. 1. He gets the license without mentioning it to Beckett (they squandered a perfect opportunity for him to finally tell her it's not about her, that it's his life). 2. By the time the show returns time has passed so we don't see him tell her. The whole premise of the show gets turned on its head & we don't even get to see the characters reaction. Avoiding these kinds of converations seems to be par for the course with the writers. So yeah they may have improved the communication between them some but in my book they still have a ways to go before I would consider them an open & honest couple.
-
I thought the whole premise of the "new mythology" was pitiful. But once they put it out there I wish they had the guts to stick to their guns. How could Castle & his whole family(including Beckett) ignore the fact that he disappeared for months and came back with several unexplained injuries and complete memory loss? At least show or mention the fact that Castle is seeing someone or doing something because he is concerned. It's another sad example of the lack of consequences or follow up. It's hard to care about what happened or what is going to happen when the characters don't even acknowledge the fact that something occurred.
-
I think the part that damned them was recycling the storyline. The first time around people were interested. This time I was just bored by the whole thing. I guess Pi & Alexis can reconcile & then break up again just for a change of pace.
-
It seems to me they are finally attempting to do the things that should have been done 2 or 3 seasons ago. It would be nice if they could pull it off but for me this far down the road it comes across as artificial & forced. Beckett & Castle are the only characters they have bothered to flesh out during the course of the show & now it may be a matter of having to sleep in the bed they made.
-
I understand and agree with them expanding the secondary characters. The problem is they are terrible at pacing. They just about always go from a dead stop to full speed with no buildup in between. Everything always feels abrupt & sudden. Instead of showing a relationship building between Lanie & Esposito they are probably going to jump right in. This style of storytelling leaves me with no investment in the outcome. I really couldn't care less about Lanie or Esposito because I barely know who they are as people (what I do know about Esposito doesn’t exactly endear him to me). So I'm basically indifferent to their relationship.
