Chit-Chat: What's On Your Mind Today?
Is Everyone Gone replied to JTMacc99's topic in Everything Else
Location: NYC/Bronx, urban, poorest Congressional district of the country. Many migrants, many immigrants, almost all POC. Which is why it's shocking to hear the girls idolizing the trad-wife content online. It's certainly so far removed from their actual lives. -
Jill, Derick & the Kids: Moving On!!
Is Everyone Gone replied to Chris Knight's topic in Counting On
I agree that it might have something to do with Josh. Being assaulted when she slept, and then not believed and even blamed ... But smothering tends to create resentment and even worse feelings of isolation. She'd probably feel less alone if she did things, met people, interacted with people other than Derick and her kids. -
Jill, Derick & the Kids: Moving On!!

I think it's more about Jill not being so afraid of being alone. As an example, I think Joy is just as hard-core about home-schooling, but I never get the impression that Joy can't function without Austin. Austin's house-flipping job and his interests (hunting trips with the boys) mean he's often away for long hours. With Jill, I defo get the impression that she CAN'T function without Derick's constant presence. -

And this is why homeschooling sucks. If Izzy and Sam were off at school, and Freddie was getting to the pre-K/kindergarten age, Jill would be forced to spend time alone. She might hit the gym, join some clubs, volunteer somewhere. She might EVEN get a part-time job. Instead, it seems as if she parks her kids in front of their learning module computers at home and then waits for Derick to get off work. -

The oddest thing is, the girls I teach are all extremely lower-income. Like they didn't grow up with moms staying home, they grew up with moms working hard to support them. Yet they talk almost nonstop about not even needing to graduate college because they'll just find a husband and stay home. -

I'm a high school teacher and our school had career day and I was shocked with a recent career day where a lot of girls said what was the whole point of college and career days, as they wouldn't be working once they got married anyway. This is a huge shift from even five years ago. -

Is anyone else shocked by the number of YOUNG women of this generation who are "stay-at-home-wives"? I'm not talking about having kids and staying at home. I'm talking 21, married, staying at home, no kids. It's become paramount for a lot of young women of that generation to do this, and I don't get it. #1 the financials: how are they paying rent? #2 as someone where most of the women of my generation had kids and families AND worked at least part-time, this craze is baffling. -
Jed! and Katey: Biblically Bunking Together
Is Everyone Gone replied to Scarlett45's topic in Counting On
I always got the feeling Katey and Jed was pretty much an arranged marriage. It seems to have worked out pretty well (the way arranged marriages often do) but I don't get the feeling it was more than that. Shiv Roy of Succession. -

Katey cut her hair pretty short into the Shiv bob: https://www.instagram.com/p/DIhnnisp0I0/ I like it. A practical mom style. -

Sometimes I sort of hope Derick has a job that keeps him real busy, so Jill can finally develop some interests outside of him. She just seems so overwhelmingly clingy towards him, the type that would call him 10x in one hour. -

They layout of tiny homes kind of resembles a NYC studio. Studios in NYC are actually popular for "weekday homes." Like a busy Wall St dude has a home in Long Island but also a studio in Manhattan for when he works late he crashes there. (And, often ... the studio is where he meets his city gf/bf while the wife and kids are in the suburbs). -

I've noticed that the sleeping spaces for them are usually in a loft or in an absolutely tiny area at the back of the house. Personally I like a more wide-open space where I sleep. Small sleeping spaces make me claustrophobic, and I live in a NYC apartment. -

My parents are pretty tech savvy too. My dad more than my mom, but my mom has an ipad, pays her bills online, Facetimes, etc. Something on my mind: YT has a lot of these "tour my tiny house" videos. They show a usually single older lady in a small house, which is just a tiny living room, a kitchen, and a tiny bedroom. Some loft space. How much are these tiny homes? -
I certainly hope The Last of Us doesn't follow House of the Dragon where a super-great season 1 turns into a muddled season 2.

She might not know the truth but she might sense it, the way people who are lied to often do.

Well ... either Ellie is acting very 19-year old (petulant and whiny) or she's mad at Joel because he made that executive decision to save her rather than have her sacrificed for science.

Eh in terms of dumb things NBA players have done, Ja's celly seems fairly benign. It's his off-the-court gun antics that are concerning. Y'all hear about Anthony Edwards' various ongoing paternity suits? He has four different kids with four different women. Dude is going to blow through his salary quickly like that.

I hate it when the trackpad in your laptop starts to act funky and then you need to buy a wireless mouse. Ugh. -
Speaking of debts and alcoholics, Thomas Jefferson's son-in-law Thomas Mann Randolph also ended up a debt-ridden alcoholic. Martha moved her entire brood to Monticello after Randolph was disinherited by his father after his father remarried a teenager and had a son with her. Thomas Randolph and Martha had 12 children, but their marriage was not happy. Randolph was said to be a drunk and abusive.

Luka was very close to Kyrie, whom he recruited to come to Dallas. He also got Klay to go to Dallas. The Dallas team was kind of built for him. And it was suddenly taken away. I'm sure that although he likes LA and his new team, he still misses his old buds.
-
Luka cried all through his tribute video when he returned to Dallas tonight. I'm not even the biggest Luka fan and that was hard to watch.

So apparently the right is melting down over Amy Coney Barrett for various reasons.
-
There's 0% chance Jokic didn't sign off on this. He must have been really unhappy.
-
So the rumors of the Nuggets locker room being in disarray and Jokic being unhappy are probably true. They just canned longtime coach Mike Malone AND GM Calvin Booth this morning.

I think figure skating fans (or a subset) can be really inappropriate. Remember the infamous Sergei widows, the people who thought they were Sergei Grinkov's true spiritual wives and harassed Katia nonstop with angel figurines and then tried to get her deported when she married Ilia Kulik?
