  1. I think Kristen has been channeling her inner succubus self. She hungered for the essences of younger males to rejuvenate energy and experience a miraculous pregnancy at 70. The devil must be extremely pleased with her works.
  2. Speaking of “judging what’s best”, here’s a little story I’ve got to tell: Long ago, someone told me SOD awards show was more objective than Daytime Emmys because the categories were voted by soap fans through mail-in ballots. For instance, John/Marlena was voted for “Hottest Romance” and Roman/Marlena for “Most Boring Couple” in 1993(?). It was then when I saw old videos of the two pairings and recognized the sheer ridiculosity of that statement. Additionally, Lane Davies was never nominated for Daytime Emmys nor won any category of SOD awards because of his rumoured reclusiveness (not a favourable aspect for the press). And Justin Deas despite being the frequent contender and winner, thought lowly of those award shows. Instead, he'd often spent time with his children and wife on the exact day when they were broadcast live.
  3. @DisneyBoy MA had brought a lot to the show and made Jack one of the most iconic Salem character. Clearly the show is hardly gaining any new fan and has been losing old viewers for years. Bringing him back would certainly make many of the remaining long-time audiences happy and even some former viewers might tune in to Days again. Soap viewers, as scary as they were at times, could be incredibly loyal towards classic legacy characters such as Jack. If their willingness to have Matt A back again outweighed lower tolerance of the writers and all other mishaps I wouldn't be suprised.
  4. Maggie being taken by Konstantin might be another repeat of Lavinia Peach’s loneliness or he will come clean about himself. Either way, it is much preferable than Maggie making a fool out of herself for him. P.S. Miss Peach was Shane’s ISA partner and mother figure. She met and fell for a “nice and charming” guy who in reality scammed rich and lonely women for money. Eventually Miss Peach was able to discover the truth about this con-artist with Shane’s help.
  5. Agreed. Jen Lilly is the only salvageable quality of Theresa. I've seen her in several Hallmark romance and Lifetime films, she was totally convincing as a good and caring mother (JL has a natural gift for working with child actors). @FilmTVGeek80 The essential classic soap anti-hero/bad guy formula cherished by many back in the day cannot fully apply to present-day situation because those in charge cannot create a character or full story of redemption both worthy and authentic. Paul Telfer should not shoulder that responsibility for production team and management. Daytime Soaps use to be a stage of wonders where even Ronn Moss or Antonio Sabato Jr could shine occasionally with good writing, unless the actor is a 100% charisma vacuum. IMO PT is charismatic and has improved massively in on-screen romance department, unlike certain actors who still can't get it right after pairing up with multiple female costars.
  6. I don’t think this is solely about “who’s done anything or not as bad as most others” discussion. As the daughter of supercouple Kimberly and Shane, Theresa has always been a legacy character unlike the recurring Xander who only became regular after he was paired with Sarah. As in the case of soaps, characters who was originally brought on temporary basis was often villainous (i.e. Steve). So I could at least understand the reasoning behind Xander being written as a villian. Theresa’s personality was the total opposite of her beloved parents. Her actions proved to be heinous for a legacy character. She was a drug addict, a chameleon, a liar and a murder who used emotional deception and manipulation to achieve self-serving goals. She stole money from hospital funds to pay her drug expenses. Upon being discovered by Jennifer, she vowed to seek revenge by throwing herself at Dr. Dan the Tan and later JJ. Theresa had threatened her supposedly good buddy JJ that she’d show the video of him using substances to the judge, which could have sent him to prison (he was already on probation). She also embezzled money from Brady after getting intimate with him and was responsible for attempted murder of John that put him into a coma. Even worse, she informed the police that Brady was the one who tried to kill his own father. Oddly enough, John was reprimanded by some old-time user years back for being an asshole to Theresa without actually acknowledging their history. Ironically, the person was also the one who constantly torn John and Carrie to shreds for “treating Sami badly” while deliberately ignoring her eternally despicable treatment of the two persons who were like her second father and second mother while Marlena and Roman were absent. This is no mean my attempted justification of Xander’s past deeds or giving a standing ovation to his relationship with Sarah, though I do think a nuanced and balanced character assessment might be refreshing once in a while.
  7. Look at the bright side, Genie Francis doesn't have to personally witness the obliteration of this once awesome character. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Christie Clark. In my twisted mind, the writers will not rest until all traces of good old friendship, family connectedness, romance and compelling drama are removed from Salem.
  8. While the use of "face-eating" technique to simulate awe and love and passion for a long married couple may have resulted in growing weariness for viewers, tedium of present romantic moments or lack of commitment thereof is much more of an ongoing problem. Very few Salem younger couples would be qualified for the competition for “performer of believable romantic moments” award except Eric and Sloan. Xander and Sarah is next in line given the considerable improvement in their recent love scenes. In all fairness, an actor’s demonstrated mastery of kisses and romantic scenes of whatever kinds and adaptability to dissimilar scene-partners seem to be major draws for audiences and a guarantee of being chemistry magnet. This is why DH was great with everybody and some even liked him with psychotic Orpheus’s sister in law, Hope and Ava. Neil Curtis also deserves an honourable mention because he was one of the few characters who didn’t make me feel squicky with comparatively young women (the dynamic wasn’t necessarily romantic). John Reilly (GH) was wonderful with his female-costars as well. P.S. Whether or not Daytime viewers prefer open-mouth or passionate style over soapy style is entirely personal choice. I do know that latino telenovelas were liked for their openness to more realistic executions of kisses and love scenes.
  9. A character who isn’t insufferable at present-days seems to be rare find. My attitude towards John used to be similarly indifferent due to eternally stagnant character development and the rinse-and-repeat writing revolved around Marlena and him until my discovery of Drake’s Roman (I also came to appreciate Wayne’s Roman and his romance with Marlena via clips). His awesomeness had been stressed by viewers from time to time. There were also wonderful morally grey characters like Nick (originally written as a villian forced teenage girls into prostitution!) and Eve (played by Charlotte Ross). It was a time when captivating characters and nuanced storyline were common. Maybe someday Harry Porter wave his magic wand, the show will regrab its audiences' attention.
  10. The writers made a colossal mistake to de-romanize the pawn, the show, the viewers and actor involved have all been paying the price ever since. Not a single trick those in charage pulled could have remedy it unless they found the ultimate solution to put an end to the long and torturous reinterpretation of 1000 tales about the pawn once and for all - let John be Romain his true self again (PERMANTELY). Never saw Kristen and Alex coming, but I did once believe she and Ben could make one helluva of criminal duo, the present-day Clyde and Bonnie to keep the good citizens of Salem busy.
  11. One way to create authentic drama for the younger set is to emphasize on emotional effects of growing-up like friendship, working, bullying, first crushes, loss of parents etc. The show used to do this back in the day hence why younger Jennifer and Carrie and Frankie were well-liked. If Holly and Tate and Wendy haven’t always been prone to street wandering aka hanging around Horton Square, there’s a chance viewers would care a bit more about them lol.
  12. Hi all, new to the board! I am a DOOL non-commited viewer for years. The show felt like background noise for the most part until a friend's suggestion opened my eyes to the classical Days one day. That was a defining moment when I finally saw why Drake, Stephan, Wally, Judi etc were the epitomes of soap popularity despite many of those actors and the characters were often subject to snarky treatment by users from Television Without Pity board few dacades later... Now when Drake or Stephan is appearing on screen, I have to make a tremendous effort not to turn my head way. This has nothing to do with their againg. It's a sad relizaton - the golden lagecies of this genre are dying out followed by the eventual end of Soap Opera in near future. Ok, I will end my little commentary before it was compeletely taken over by pessimistic sentiment lol.
  13. Hi! New to the board. I have been rewatching B&B episodes after Joanna Johnson's return as Karen. What really interested me besides playing a character vastly different her twin sister Caroline was JJ's surprising chemistry with Peter Brown (Blake), despite their huge age gap of 25-6 years. Karen and Blake could have worked as a couple if TPTBs hadn't reduced her to the unrealistically love-struck girl for the Forrester brothers or Blake was able to overcome his own demon - obsession with Taylor.
