He didn't overreach like Elliot usually did. Yeah this is a Manslaughter case.. Maybe Man 2 or 3. Investigative side was good and I thought Riley was really strong (especially these 3 episodes). I thought him and his daughter was a good sideplot to go off on. Wish there was a shot of Lt. Brady in the car watching the conversation though.. Honestly, the fact that these two (Price & Maroun) fought to take this case, then proceeded to not go all the way should've been a conversation for Baxter to have with them at the end of the episode. I don't agree with Price's accessment and they should've looked at a different avenue like Family Court to determine whether or not the daughters would've been safe in the home with the father. Moms needed jailtime too, postpartum is a serious thing, but to kill your grown daughter and continue to lie about it.. I think a lot was said about Price's character so far and compared to other prosecutors: I agree, I think if we do have 3 overzealous prosecutors we should have one who has a heavy heart like Price does. I just don't think the current combination of Maroun & Price are efficient. Someone's gotta be cold blooded between them and I thought after the premiere Maroun was headed down that route. I wish they would do more with her because I don't think they have since like episode 1` Haha I felt like "well no shit he's trying not to go to prison" We already had his brother in Episode 3 so their quota should be filled.. Next episode's not looking good for my boy.... But I do like the drama, there should be some comparisons to "Marathon" down the line.

I mean... do they have to? It didn't seem like a plot hole or something episode-breaking to me or any average viewer.

I think the issue is with Nolan using another slimey tactic to get a conviction. It was a legal thing that Nolan did but I don't think it had anything to do with the murder.. This legal portion was really good, and I think it was because it like.. forced me to suspend my disbelief. There's absolutely no way this trial could be a real thing. It felt like Nolan was about to go very very far. I wish they had made him go farther, almost into a disbarment threat. Very fun episode. I wish they had just explained away Shaw's disappearance with like a desk duty thing from Lt. Brady, when I saw the preview I wish that was what it was. Det. Yee felt like when Profaci would cover for a detective in some episodes so that felt nice.

I think it's really good writing. All these episodes Shaw seems to always weigh the law vs what's right. Here he finally gets to choose on the opposite side. I don't think it's Shaw's responsibility to bring the witness in but I do think it was wrong. Nolan & Shaw beef? I'm here for it. I think Nolan was also right that he did take away someone's justice. Good writing because I don't think either side is right or wrong. Might be season's best episodes but I think next episode...

I thought this was a pretty good episode, this season is getting to me. Obviously the situation is contrived, at the end of the day it is a drama. I'm starting to like Nolan & Sam a lot more as a pair. But it's more about their relationship and less about their prosecutorial duties and skills together. They're growing on me (I believe I've said before that Nolan & Sam are reminding me of Ben & Claire, but they've passed them and other boring partnerships imo). I don't think the daughter should've been charged with murder or anything more heinous than what she got in the deal. I do think *every episode* being personal is dragging it, but I think on rewatch it'll be better? IDK.

I think I could write the episode. -
Great episode. Only thing was I wish this episode came way later in the season. I think we could've used a more balanced episode but I'd reckon on rewatch/syndication it wouldn't be too much. Idk if it's my favorite of the season, but it's gonna be high up there. Definitely a step up from last episode. Not sure what this means for Brady's job but I do like her and Riley's relationship, because Riley's never going to trust her. Shaw had some good moments here too and I think the twist with the storage unit worked well. I thought Brady took the hit for him, and caused IAB to investigate. Brady is just dry, that's who her character is. Van Buren seemed to have different relationships with different set of cops but she and Briscoe seemed to be good friends, while she and.. Beauty Queen seemed to have a more adversarial relationship. It depends on what the cast needs and the character that she is. Hopefully she opens up more in the future, but for now I think she's fine. I thought 2 episodes ago humanized her pretty well with her sons and didn't make her so bad. Yeah, I enjoyed that scene very much. Even funnier because they're in the car with the killer.. I wish this reboot did more detective work instead of just speaking to witnesses. They should be going through boxes, tracking people, setting traps, having wires. (They did do more of that this season) but they're gonna have to get real creative. The promo seemed to be a mix of old-episodes.

Approach The Bench: Law & Order General Discussion Thread

I'll bite with ADA rankings 1. Claire - Her seasons were so good, I will say that her first season is a rough one, especially as a woman in a previously male dominated role. I will always love her. 2. Connie - I found it interesting to me how much she was a powerhouse in an office with both Jack McCoy and Michael Cutter as her bosses. Unlike 3. Abbie 4. Paul - So great, but he doesn't have as much characterization with him. Wish he got more epsidoes like other ADAs 5. Serena - She's not as bad as the entire fandom would think. I think she's a very important part of L&O, because of her sympathies towards the defense. 6. Samantha - She might rise above Serena if she continues getting better in the current season. 7. Alexandra - So boring, I can't remember a thing about her. -

Law & Order seasons 1-20 are coming to Hulu December 16th (which also happens to be my birthday so yay me!) -
Kenny originally was set to replace Miguel. He flies out to Spain, Miguel & Johnny go to America, but Miguel comes back anyway, Devon apologizes to Kenny and as a result steps down. The roster starts with: Robby-Sam-Devon-Miguel-Eli-Demetri If Miguel didn't come back the roster would be: Robby-Sam-Devon-Kenny-Eli-Demetri However, as of now, the roster is: Robby-Sam-Kenny-Miguel-Eli-Demetri from the tag team event on. Miguel leaves after the platform event so Kenny isn't brought back into the plot yet. I think you can.. I'm not sure of the rules, I mean the Sekai Tekai seems to be playing very fast and loose on the tournament style and how everything is taken into consideration. I don't think they did unless there were long standing bruises. All fighters should've been at 100% anyways because think about the time that was taken. I'm presuming the Sekai Tekai has more than enough doctors and healing facilities that players can be at peak condition, so I don't think it's too much of an advantage. Yes, Silver lampshades over the rules being loophole abusive. Timeline seems to be wonky, but there's 1 event per day, so it seems. Miguel doesn't miss an event at all it seems. Now, Spain to California is 12 hours, we don't know how long he was back in the Valley for, but i'm assuming it was like 1 or 2 hours at most, because somehow he has to make it back for the tag team event. I do not think Tory is going back to Miyagi-Do, she made her bed.

3 episodes of Brady in a row is a lot. Bar Season 20, Van Buren didn't even have this much focus and I think I can count on my hands episodes where she was a major part/or had investment in.
-
I'm on the side of Maroun here, as I usually am. I actually wished that the witness didn't testify or been vague and not say that they were protesting did something else. No way would I have testified against my friend and risk getting deported. I didn't like this episode too much. Not because it's bad but the backdrop of the episode being Israel-Palestine will always be a rough write. I think it's twice now they've done this (the first being the premiere for Season 23), not a big fan. [Plus they're back at Hudson U for the case haha] My least favorite of the season but considering that I liked this season very very much so far, it's still a pretty good episode. Next episode is ANOTHER BRADY FOCUS?! That's 3 in a row. They better dial her back for the rest of the season, because she is my least favorite on the cast as of currently. I think this part was fine and earned. Why the hell is Baxter bending way over backwards and leaving Price in the dark? They still have some issues and I don't think they're going to work it all out, especially considering Baxter is his boss. Also remember: Baxter was appointed by the Mayor (IIRC), so he probably has some loyalty or bias that he's never going to admit. I thought Baxter and Price was the better parts of the episode. One thing about the season is that it finally feels like the show has a full deck. All the characters were alive here and doing something, and it felt coherent.
-
Yeah I just watched Stalker. I'm of the minority here. Lennie is using a loophole and it's much much more likely that the victim faked her fall. I think Van Buren is upset because she doesn't want Lennie to screw up and get arrested for Perjury because she knows that Lennie genuinely didn't believe her. It's also a bad look for the NYPD.

Continuity Gaffes & Ridiculous Censorship-“Really Frosts My Cookies”
Theli11 replied to GHScorpiosRule's topic in Law & Order
Noticed this recently in the last episode ("Report Card" 23x5) but it seems to hammer home that the first scene is set for Halloween night. But the season very much seems to be spring (there's a scene in the office where we're looking over Little Island and nobody is in winter clothes. In the same episode there's a title card that has October 5th on it. which is also not accurate. I also believe a previous episode (god help me if I can't remember it), placed an address at like the 600 block of Avenue C (it could be B), which doesn't exist because Avenue C doesn't go past the 330 address (Avenue B doesn't go beyond the 220s) and the place is a house when 600 would be at the FDR. This is also funny because when a false address is given often times the detectives will go "That's in the middle of the east river" or something along those lines. -
I love love loved this episode. (This season's turning out great). I will say though, this episode used the hell out of what one building which would be (Bethel Gospel Assembly) on 120/119th btw. 5th Avenue. (The Juvi facility that the kid was walking out of at the end of the episode used it) and most of the school scenes. Once you've been in there it's a very identifiable location. Shaw is a really good character, I wish Maroun had been able to express further feelings in not liking prosecuting a young black boy. The only episode that didn't do this was episode 2 which had Olivia Benson guest starring. I do agree it feels a little much, but they have a lot of catching up to do in terms of characterizations for all of them. I think Riley is still behind on characterizations.
-
Eh, I think the point was that Riley didn't necessarily believe in the act that a fetus was just a clunk of cells. I think it's okay for the detectives to talk about it to each other. the Melodrama wasn't as melodrama as Season 8 (they wasn't breaking from the season long plot lines like Season 8 did [or Season 20 for Van Buren]. It stayed relevant to the case, and I don't think the detectives should be blank slates because at the end of the day they're still characters. Price's dad being ill at the end is also still relevant to the case because it's the reason for his feelings.
-
Very easy appeal to win. Don't know if they were quoting bible verses too much. Greevey had his own explicit prejudices and Logan had trauma. Stone I don't think I remembered any episodes where he was all catholic and righteous
-
Catholic Cop is already Law & Order’s favorite, if Shaw said it I’d be more accepting (and would make more sense that a catholic citing Bible verses) See below: The law can’t tell the future. The defendant’s actions didn’t kill her right then and there. And if she comes back alive like the defense is implying, it’s a huge problem if he got convicted. If someone purposefully infected someone with a confirmed 99.999% deadly disease and they haven’t died yet, you’d be imprisoning someone for a crime that has yet to be done/finished if you get what I’m saying. The defense has to do their job at the end of the day.

I'd reckon with the case Nolan wanted to do, it wasn't necessary. Sam found it because she was actually looking for it and a way to make murder more digestible for the Jury. Both of them pull this kind of stunt a lot. With Cutter it was like once every 5 episodes where he oversteps to make a case. I think it made sense. For the defense it's more of a, it can't be murder if they come back to life kind of thing. That's why they brought the Lazarus guy to testify. They weren't fighting for acquittal here, they were fighting to give him a life sentence and the defense is fighting for a chance of parole. Sam was very strong on wanting to throw the book at him.
-
I thought we were gonna get 2 in one episode before the hostage scene started
-
For the safety of the public, he shouldn't be getting a chance of parole at all. Samantha's just doing her best to ensure that.
-
I think I disagree, this season feels like Seasons 7-8 which was notorious for it's look into the personal life of detectives and lawyers. The personal crap wasn't so overdone here and actually does make sense why Nolan is acting the way he is. The conflict between the Sam & Nolan is so good because it wasn't over done. I think this season is really going to be about characters and just working on their characterizations and I think it's the right place to go here. The legal stuff was interesting this episode I thought, Samantha frustrated me but I've said this before.. it was a good frustration. With the final events of the episode (his father's attached to tubes), there's probably a personal reason for why he said this, and something he might fear. But also the point he's making is whether or not taking someone off life support is murder if they're already brain dead. He's saying it can set a slippery slope, Samantha's saying that she doesn't care as long as the bomber goes to prison. The reason Nolan isn't pushing back is because of the ending which is why it's so important. It contextualizes everything and Nolan doesn't seem to have much of a fight against what Samantha's doing. I think if it was another topic Nolan would push back hard (episode 1, Nolan literately gets in a cab to stop Samantha from fucking up) She won the case for them, she's a good lawyer. Besides, there was all sorts of shit Adam let Jack get away with, and in turn we as the audience. Did she screw up? She pulled the plug to win the case, but in the end, it wouldn't be healthy for the husband to attach onto a body and keep her alive. Honestly 9/10, I think the police side was a little off, and I think they got the Legal side to be a lot better. Overall everyone's good this time around and this cast is doing well for this season. Notes on the opening: was the explosion CG?

Just watched Metamorphosis and god this one is a really good Season 7 episode. A lot of Season 7 has weaker victims who aren't as complex, developed or interesting as previous seasons which is one of my issues. I found Mia slightly better. The villain this episode was so damn good though, and the confession scene was so damn creepy it was incredible. The balance between the subplots and the case was good as well. And the scene where Lester "Gargantuan" almost strangle Scotty is so fucking scary. I don't generally like Season 7 episodes as much but this one was really good. "Two Weddings" was also another fun one. 0 subplots this episode and Meredith Stein returns to write this episode. The framing of this episode is probably one of my favorites, of course they would try to solve a case during a wedding. Weird this episode didn't have Miller but had Bell... Either way this was a really fun one and the reveal that Melanie died with a temporary moment of clarity is heartbreaking. Two great back to back episodes and in my opinion the last of the really good episodes besides.. 1 more which is Flashover, which is still imo the best episode of the season. (Season 7 only has the full cast in episodes 1, 2, 17 ("Flashover"), and 22, the finale)

This episode wasn't offensively bad. I definitely want more Maroun next week (considering next episode we will) she's had less than 10 lines in the past 2 episode, and really only 1 scene where she wasn't second chair in each. I kinda enjoyed this episode, but I think if Price's brother (who is also named Price..) Riley's brother, just went right back to the tombs after he screwed up his end of the deal instead of waiting until the end of the episode. I liked both detectives this week a little bit more, I think Shaw has become a really good detective, I just think that they both can be a bit too dry. I guess what I want is them to be frustrating and in character. I think with Riley, a lot of it is implied but we haven't seen him do anything questionable. She's isn't here enough to bother me. Price is doing better but he too needs like.. opinions on stuff.
-
I found this episode really good, Benson not withstanding, it did use her pretty well for a legal argument and it makes sense she's not happy with them using the rape kit to get DNA (then victims will be more hesitant to get DNA). Olivia is frustrating in a good way this time around. One thing I wasn't a fan of is when Olivia says that she's an advocate for woman.. which like okay, but SVU gets male victims too.. If she said she's an advocate for rape victims then I'd be a little more fine with it. Price is right when he says that Tyler is a victim too and he didn't do anything illegal...
