  1. No one is arguing over that. We are just saying that it wrong to say 3/4 of the country voted for him.
  2. The election map is horribly misleading. Land doesn’t vote. Google an election map by population density (assuming one has been made yet for this election) and you will get a more accurate representation but that still wouldn’t take into account non-voters.
  3. 3/4 of the country? 50.5% of the people whose votes have been counted so far. That’s 30% of registered voters and when you add in those who could register but didn’t that percentage will go down even farther. That percentage is also likely to continue to decrease as more votes are counted just based on the normal voting trends and how slow California is to count their votes.
  4. It wouldn’t surprise me if that is what it took for the “never Trump guy” to sign-on. Vance has even closer ties to Project 2025 than Trump. While we’re on the subject of Musk can we all take moment to acknowledge the absolute hypocrisy of the group who bitched and moaned about the 2020 election being “stolen” for four years but doesn’t give a shit about Musk’s million dollar a day bribe “sweepstakes”.
  5. This is where I stand. I am in a red region of a blue state. No one close to me is MAGA but I’m sure a good chunk of them did vote for Trump even though they don’t like him. They mostly fall in the struggling to make ends meet group that bought the lie that Trump will fix the economy. I am massively side-eyeing that all the isms weren’t a dealbreaker, particularly since I am the only one who isn’t white or white passing. I am planning on distancing myself a little bit and am noping out of Thanksgiving this year for my sanity. My opinion of my boss probably took the biggest hit. I knew he was a republican but the day of the election he passed on some horribly racist, homophobic and sexist spam crap that forever changed how I view him.
  6. I know it will appall some people but I do get my news from TikTok. By that I mean that I get my news from every major news channel and every major newspaper in the country in addition to political experts, economic experts and any other kind of expert you could imagine and they bring receipts. Social media definitely has its problems and can be a toxic cesspool, but it’s a byproduct of people’s tendencies outside of social media. The apathetic citizen who completely ignores the news isn’t going to tune in if social media didn’t exist. Someone who is hardcore MAGA isn’t going to listen to an opposing viewpoint if they’re not on TikTok. If we are going to point a finger at anything, I would point it at our education system (NOT the individual teachers that have to work within the system) that is more focused on teaching kids to memorize facts than think critically, instilling intellectual curiosity or giving them even the most basic understanding of how the world actually works. There is a reason the education divide is as stark as it has ever been and Trump says he loves the poorly educated.
  7. Construction workers. Anyone who thinks mass deportation will make homes more affordable is in for a rude awakening when new home construction grinds to a halt and prices skyrockets. Deportation and tariffs will create a vicious cycle driving costs up. Oh and for anyone keeping track, today’s trending google search that people should have researched before the damn vote is denaturalization.
  8. I am going to try and word this very carefully because I truly do not want this to come off like an attack. Personally, my issue with conversations with Trump supporters (universally, I’m not referring to any single person) is that I never see them address the specific horrible things he has said and done. When people bring up how a second Trump term is likely to negatively impact queer individuals/women/the economy or the racist/sexist/violent things he has done it is either ignored, minimized or denied. It’s hard to have a conversation right now when people are terrified for themselves and the next generation. The simple reality is that Trump’s policies are divisive so this vote was also divisive. Trump’s policies are not for everyone. They are deliberately designed to leave out or actively punish certain groups. That’s not a divide that will not be easily (or ever) healed and it is far too raw for it to happen in the near future. Yep. I wouldn’t be surprised if states like California will struggle to provide food just for themselves let alone the rest of the world. I logged out right after I posted so I am only just seeing this. It’s probably too late to do anything but didn’t want to just ignore you. Most of my post works without the list since I didn’t address any specific points on the list. I have no issue with editing out the mentions of the list you posted.
  9. You’re comparing your behavior to the behavior of everyone even remotely on the other side. There are plenty of people who are now MAGA who did not “tolerate” Obama. Trump himself spent years trying to paint Obama as a terrorist who was not an American citizen years before his presidency. Trump took out an ad calling for the death of the Central Park Five (now known as the Exonerated Five) over three decades ago and he continues to repeatedly slander them 22 years after DNA evidence confirmed they weren’t guilty. He was sued by the government for racial discrimination in 1973. The list is endless, but I don’t have the energy to continue.
  10. Yep. Economists were giving that warning before the election. Companies have already come out and said they are going to have raise prices to compensate. The estimate I saw was that it will cost the average household $1,700 to nearly $4,000 annually.
  11. I agree. It’s crazy to me that these discussions are happening when one side provoked people to literally storm the capital with the intent to assassinate the sitting Vice President for doing his job. Vance talked about taking the right to vote away from women. Trump talked about wanting to use the military against his domestic enemies. He praised dictators. He stopped an immigration bill that had by partisan support because he cared more about his ability to campaign on immigration than fixing immigration. He talked about putting Liz Cheney in front of a firing squad. He tried to stop the 2020 vote. He told outright and inflammatory lies time and time again. Including lies that threatened the lives of legal immigrants trying to live in a city that invited them. Women are literally dying due to the abortion ban. Women are trying to figure out how to get sterilized out of fear they will get pregnant, accidentally or from an assault, in a state/country that takes away their right to choose. Or because a non-viable pregnancy could be a death sentence or lead to criminal charges. Women with wanted pregnancies in red states are afraid they will have unexpected health issues and be unable to receive medical care because doctors are afraid to treat them. And the crazy thing is that I could go on. And Trump does not care. He is a president that doesn’t care about a large chunk of his constituents.
  12. Texas.
  13. Unless I completely missed something involving the country singer, I think you might be talking about the actor, Zachary Ty Bryan.
  14. Impact of Trump tariffs is trending and there are a slew of articles. Sure let’s figure out if is plan is sound after he’s elected because of his economic plan. She did. I saw clips of him everywhere including on Fox News a few times. He did a Jubilee episode with undecided voters that was released days before the vote.
  15. I’m curious where the majority of posters get their political coverage because reading the last few pages makes me feel like I watched a completely different campaign. Kamala courted the crap out of younger left voters. I am on liberal TikTok and she went hard after that demo. Her social media team was amazing. The problem is that you can’t reach out to someone who doesn’t want to be reached. The majority of potential young voters operate in highly curated social media circles.
  16. I fucking hate it, but it is unfortunately true. Way too many people rejected her ability solely based on her race and gender. The number of times that I saw someone claim she was unqualified made me want to repeatedly bang my head against a wall. She had been elected to all three branches of the government and had worked at the local, state and federal level but was called unqualified. Her accomplishments were diminished with claims that she earned them “on her knees”. People insisted she had no policy even though she released far more policy details than the guy with concepts of a plan.
  17. Yes! It’s so basic. Companies pay more for parts and products and pass the increase on to consumers. It’s on the level of a grade school math problem. The same people have no problem with the concept when they oppose minimum wage increases. But, Trump lies and says he’s going to tax China and people just take it at face value.
  18. I saw an article this morning that independents turned out in massive numbers. They tied republicans with 34% of the vote and democrats were slightly behind at 32%. In 2020, independents were 26% of the vote so they were the deciding factor. Exactly. The level of ignorance on how the economy really works is astounding. People barely making ends meet are voting like they are billionaires, completely ignorant to the reality that they are voting against the very thing they want most. Mass deportation is going to hurt the supply chain across the board. Tariffs are going to increase inflation. Trump’s tax plan is going to give money to the richest people and corporations who are going to hoard it like Scrooge.
  19. Ditto.
  20. Well, this is depressing. What is really bothering me at the moment (besides the obvious) is how much of what I hear from people is just flat out untrue. I feel like the majority of people are voting on vibes. Trump successfully created a perception that mattered more than the facts. Trump is perceived to be better on the economy while economists are saying his plan will hurt the economy and increase inflation. Lather, rinse, repeat on every major issue. 😔 If it makes you feel better, that quote is generally attributed to Margaret Atwood although her version was longer. No one knows who first used the more succinct version but it’s wasn’t Louis C.K.
  21. Every time I see people saying the something in Project 2025 will never happen and it’s just fear mongering, I am reminded of all the people who said Roe would never be overturned. And now we have pregnant women dying because they can’t get healthcare in states with abortion bans.
  22. If Trump gets a second presidency the conditions will be wildly different than his first. Republicans like McCain and Romney are gone. Nearly everyone who was a part of his presidency is gone and has been replaced with people who are less likely to challenge him. The Speaker is way less likely to challenge him. The Supreme Court is extremely friendly to him and has ruled that the president has a disturbing level of immunity. He wouldn’t have to worry about re-election and he has clearly already given up trying to appeal to anyone other than his base.
  23. I have no desire to engage in a straw man argument.
