That's Sara's thing now. She dies, but she always comes back. I feel like this evil version of Rip is what he could have become had he let the grief of losing his wife and kid completely consume him. What he said to Jax at the end, sounds like someone who has lost all hope. That's the alternate route he could have taken, compared to what he told Sara in S1, in the episode where they were dancing, something about being better (can't remember exactly what he said). If the Legends can't de-brainwash Rip using any technological device and has to resort to "natural" means, then Sara is the best person to bring back the old Rip. Despite everything she's been through, she still has hope that things would turn out for the better. And once old Rip is back, who better to absolve his guilt over the things he's done while evil than the person he killed? One small thing that struck me as odd was when Jax was pointing his gun at Rip, before Sara showed up, Rip was all smug and "you don't have the guts to kill me". But after Sara showed up, he seemed to change his mind and thought Jax could shoot him, because he said "you better listen to your friend". Why the change? I'm probably overthinking it.

Well, even when Rip was Phil, Sara was the hero of his story. So it would make sense that as a villain, he would try (and thankfully not succeed) to take out the hero.

Spoilers & Speculation: Running Hot & Cold

I wondered about that when Caity posted the picture below on her Instastory. I'm not sure if what she's wearing is for Legends of Tomorrow, but the video clip she posted before that is of her in the same hair and smoky-eyed makeup walking outside the trailers on set. -

That's true. It's unlike Rip's leadership style who lectures the team on what they did wrong after every mission, so much so that even Ray is annoyed by it. -

Maybe Sara feels like she's just temporarily stepping in for Rip. Once he's back to his old self, she'll give him his leadership role back. Plus, I can see Sara not wanting to always have to bear the burden of being responsible for the team (but she's always going to protect them and have their backs, of course). Rip will probably still talk over his plans with Sara and confide in her, like he has been doing in Season 1. And she's a natural leader, so when things go wrong as they always do, she'll definitely step up. I will miss Captain Lance if this is the route they're going, though. -

I am most probably wrong, but I get the feeling from the filming pictures that Rip is taking the lead in the episode, or at least whatever aberration they're dealing with. Maybe Sara relinquishes the leadership role to Rip when he gets his memories back? -

That's true. I don't think there's an episode where I don't believe she's playing a character from that era. She always looks the part. The costume department has been especially great this year. -

This is the third time Sara's playing a nurse now? Once in every decade - 50s, 60s, 70s. Caity, Arthur, Nick and Maisie shooting Ep 14. http://yvrshoots.com/2017/01/shoot-legends-of-tomorrows-rip-hunter-arthur-darvill-sara-lance-caity-lotz-nathan-nick-zano-vixen-maisie-richardson-sellers-in-downtown-vancouver.html Sara really looks like someone right out of the 60s. -
I think when you have someone of Caity's skills playing a character like White Canary, you fully utilize them. And that's what the show did. =) IMO, Sara is probably one of the most well-written female character on TV. She's complex, human, and layered. I've followed other female characters who started out with so much potential, and then just fizzled out. Sara Lance has not disappointed me yet, and I hope this continues.

Jax has matured so much! I love the sibling relationship they've established between Sara and Jax in the beginning of the season, from small things like Jax teasing Sara about the Queen of France and them pushing each other in the JSA "jail cell". But now we have Jax checking in on Sara and giving her the much-needed pep talk to bring Rip back. Hopefully the writers will continue to develop this friendship. I guess they're now officially calling Eobard, Damien and Malcolm the "Legion". I'm really interested to see how the Legends found Rip and what happened between them and the Legion. -

That makes me really excited for the episode. I think Sara was the one closest to Rip on the ship, despite their conflicting viewpoints at times. I think now that Sara's been Captain for a while, they have even more things in common and can understand each other even more. Really interested to see Sara and Rip's friendship develop when he comes back on the Waverider. -
I guess my problem with this episode, like what a few people here have pointed out, is that the Legends themselves were sidelined on their own show. On Flash and Arrow, their characters were still a big part of the episode. But on Legends, the focus was on Cisco/Felicity, Oliver, Barry and Kara. There were long scenes with characters that weren't even on this show. That just felt weird and made me feel like Legends is the red-headed stepchild of Arrowverse. Just like the EW cover where we only got a tiny, tiny Atom and no mention of Legends at all on the cover. Also, Sara, as the new leader of Team Legends, should have gotten more to do, IMO. Although she did behave very leader-like in the scene where she's all "call the Dominators". However, I will say that the Oliver/Sara scene was very well-done, and I loved that the show acknowledged Sara's importance to the series. Mick does call Sara "Blondie" sometimes.

Based on the new 2-minute trailer, and the synopsis/promo pics of Arrow, I wonder if Oliver's AU reality also includes Thea, Ray, Sara and Diggle. They're the ones we see in the trailer dressed in the grey clothes at the Dominators pod-like place. And they're the ones shown in the Arrow promo pics. Given that Laurel is also in the episode, and we see Sara with her, and in one shot, it looks as if they're saying goodbye, I want this AU to be more than just Oliver's. I want Sara to be aware of it as well, so she can get some closure with losing her sister, even though it's not real. Maybe the AU is Dominators' way of keeping them under their influence. They get to experience their deepest desires - Oliver never getting on the Gambit and being with his parents and someone he love(d), Sara never getting on the Gambit and being with her sister, Ray being in love (with Felicity, I guess). Not sure about Thea and Diggle. There's also a very short clip of what looks like Arrow fighting the White Canary. Wonder what that's about. If this happens on Arrow, then I think Oliver's going to win, since Oliver ultimately wins all the fights on that show. Realistically, I think Sara would give him a run for his money, with 7 years of LoA training under her belt. -

Will the rest of the team even want to follow Rip's orders at this point? They've seen what Sara can do as a leader for a while now, and their missions are generally successful. I doubt there will be a power struggle. If Rip wants the Captain chair back, I believe Sara will just let him have it. OTOH, I think Rip will see what a good job Sara has done/is doing as leader, and I think he won't fight her for the leadership role. He didn't seem to enjoy it much anyway. So they'll probably end up as co-leaders.
