Glad to see my opinion validated. He was such a drag.

This is where I think the extra chef really helped Channel. Yeah, those cocktails looked gross. Tom also commented on the better cocktail at Dos and Duel.

Gail was so cute in her striped shirt and waders. I also like this change. Too many chefs just slide through the quick fires. I was also impressed that Savannah guessed two of the upcoming challenges.
-
Kentucky is still the worst season for me. Even over season two. It's close, but Kentucky still "wins."
-
But the others getting the benefits is what makes it unfair. They could have sucked on the previous challenge, but they still get a BIG leg up this time. It really soured me on this episode. Speaking of sour, dang, was Kwame a big ol' sourpuss. Savannah's chawanmushi looked different to me. I'm used to seeing it with a custard-ish layer on top, but hers looked like all broth (with scallops and veg). Which is fine with me, because I've never like it -- I find that custard-y layer bland and off-putting. Amanda's "gumbo" looked gross. Glad it tasted o.k. Also, as someone said, the judges split seemed based on which restaurant they ate at first. Gail seemed to be really pulling for Dos by Duel. But Gail never wins. 😢

Yeah, I've never "brat" as anything other than shorthand for bratwurst.

That's what shocked me in episode 2. These guys were his friends, and, yeah, you want to cut your friends some slack. But when the evidence was piling up, it seemed to me that not many of these "friends" were real friends, but hangers-on...because Durst had a whole heckuva a lot of money.

Oh, and, man, was she a beeyotch to that designer. Treated her like crap. Didn't show up for scheduled meetings. Lied to her. That was the beginning of my dislike of her. You don't treat people like that!

I like Brian, because he has a mellow personality, and I know he is competent. He had a number of Canadian shows where he worked with amateurs helping them with projects. He also has a good sense of humor. I don't care for Sara. I think she's piggybacking on his career to build her design business. Her "designs" are just so blah with no interest or charm. If you want to live in a space with no personality -- a bland hotel space -- fine. Also, she did a bedroom for her apprx. 10 year old daughter that looked like something for an especially boring 40 year old. She seems a little too fakily "on." She makes me tired.

Ludo was also on one of the Iron Chef competitions ages ago...i.e. the competition to be an Iron Chef, not a competition between Iron Chefs. -
Our On Demand showed this episode on the list, but when you watched it, it was a duplicate of the previous LCK episode. We watched it on bravotv.com.
-
Yes, but there was immunity during this event. Danny had it.
-
I found it amusing that the two cheftestants in this particular LCK competition had no familiarity with baseball. It was just points. Kevin won, but I almost felt like his last dish should have had a zero score. It was such a nothing. Then, he would have only won by a point. But, yeah, Rasika's strategy undid her.

Actually, she said he bought her a coffee every morning. And I thought "FN is too cheap to even give them coffee???"- 3.2k replies

Spring Baking Championship - General Discussion

My sister said that Nikki's tulip cookies looked like they were from the Kids' Baking show. So clunky and blah. No decoration other than that shiny glaze? And, no, the luster dust does not count. The flavors she described didn't appeal to me at all, but that's just taste. The look though was massively underwhelming. Nikki's "pavlova" was more creative, but it didn't look like something I'd want to eat. I don't like having to scrape bits of "streusel" off a plate in order to corral a decent bite. Deconstruction -- not my jam.- 3.2k replies

Ha, I'm old. I thought it must be some of that newfangled slang the kids are using today.

I don't watch The Bear, but everytime I've seen someone from the show, they've been really off-putting, and this Matty guy is no exception. He seems like an ass. And then saying Manny's dish was chaotic, basically, because he liked it? WTF??? Bad bad bad challenge. I thought Dan's, Savannah's and Soo's looked awesome. Danny's did not look good to me (and his "foam" looked like non-fat milk), but it sounded tasty. I love scallops in any iteration. Yeah, I want to like Kaleena, but, no.

I thought that was weird, too. I have a story: years ago, Thanksgiving weekend came around, and a Canadian coworker/friend of my sister had the weekend off, but no family around, so, we invited her to go with us to AZ (where our mom had retired to). On our way there, we were in the Coachella Valley and passed a HUGE billboard that said "Date Capital of the World." The friend was all confuzzled. This deserty empty-looking place is the date capital of the world??? We had to let her know it was the kind of dates you eat (and not in a Jeffrey Dahmer sort of way). Nowadays, that billboard might actually be true, kinda sorta.- 3.2k replies

"They" want us to be ridiculous with our houses.
-
I could swear someone on the show mentioned a brandy alexander -- maybe Tom? -- but I'm not 100% sure.

Ha, yeah, I forgot! Right, katsu basically means cutlet, but it's always breaded and pounded flat. As I mentioned earlier, it's the sauce that makes it a Japanese katsu. But I guess they don't want to use old fashioned terms like schnitzel.
-
Sounds like my kind of place!
-
I love pork tonkatsu. I think it's because the traditional katsu sauce is so assertive. I'm addicted to it. I can see why they used chicken though. Pork is really easy to turn into shoe leather.

I've eaten ham with raisin sauce, too, and I'm from California.

Me, too. I've started what I hope will be a lifetime diet change. I'm eating a lot of roasted vegetables, and my favorite is carrots.
