Barnwood Builders used to be on DIY which is the channel Magnolia replaced and they renewed several former DIY shows like Maine Cabin Masters, Bargain Mansions, Restoring Galveston and Barnwood Builders.

I was done with the show when she took a beautiful 1880s church arch, painted the poor thing black and then put it on top of a bookshelf in a modern penthouse. She should be made watch Restored till she understands what "period and style appropriate" means. In the meantime keep her away from anything with an architectural value.

Michael and Ashley from Restoring Galveston said on their Instagram that quite often the plumbing isn't finished by the time filming wraps up. The film crews need to spend as little time as possible on site so less sexy stuff like plumbing is omitted. They've shared on their Instagram clips where they go back after filming and redo some things. And according to Ashley that's quite common in the HGTV shows.

I liked the new episode. There was less bickering. And I can understand why they sold the house. The money for the new house and the hotel has got to come from somewhere. But some of the items Sarah fancied when they were discussing which items to let go made me lose my last bit of faith in her taste.

I'd say a midcentury modern kitchen has either white or oak cabinets, not blue. But it's more about the flat panel look. Btw, the very first built-in kitchen (designed by Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky, a member of Bauhaus) had teal cabinets and oak countertops.

The house looked like all their houses. And if you did a drinking game where you did a shot every time Christina said "glam", you'd be totally drunk by the end of the episode.

I commented on Instagram about Restored not being on their list and what it shame it is and Brett liked my comment without contradicting me about it getting cancelled. But hopefully you're right.

Magnolia have announced which DIY shows they'll take with them and it's Restoring Galveston, Maine Cabin Masters, Barnwood Builders, Bargain Mansions and Stone House Revival (hope I didn't forget any). So unfortunately no more Restored which is such a shame. Can't stand those narrow-minded, boring Gaines'. Home Work (the schoolhouse show) isn't my thing at all. I love old houses but they're taking a very simple 20s schoolhouse and try to convert it into a 18th century French chateaux. Way too much is fake with styrofoam moulding and plastic shower curtains pretending to be paintings. And who puts handpainted, expensive AF wallpaper in a 6-year old's bedroom? But I liked the show Clint Harp did. Is there a thread to discuss the Discovery Plus shows?

I wasn't very impressed with the episode. I don't get why so much of the space and money went towards creating a main suite for the parents which will be used only at night and the kids' room(s?) were put in the dark basement. There wasn't even a door there. And image small kids having to go upstairs at night every time they need to go to the bathroom. Luke and Clint probably did what the parents wanted but it felt impractical to me. If you create lovely spacious rooms for the kids, they'll play there once they're old enough and invite all their friends to your house without cluttering the living room with their toys. I would've kept the 1st floor bedroom for the parents and connected it to the bathroom, making it a private ensuite. Opened up the kitchen to a living and dining room. And than used the addition for two kids rooms and a smaller second bathroom. The basement could've been used for storage and a family room. When I lived in Europe there was this show that was a bit like Extreme Home Makeover where they renovated the houses of families in need (mostly with health issues). The designer always created absolutely gorgeous kids rooms. I wish there was a HGTV show which puts more emphasis on fun rooms for kids.

The third season starts airing Monday August 30. I'm really looking forward to the new episodes.

Canada is a couple episodes ahead.

Quintyn (that's how his name is spelled) is living in Canada with his grandparents which in my opinion is perfectly ok. And if my kid was passionate about and good at something and if I could afford it, I would move heaven and earth to make it possible for him to pursue it. But renovating this resort must've cost a ton of money and I can't see how they'll cover their investment any time soon. Hope their Canadian business is doing well. Last year filming any new stuff was very difficult. HGTV Canada made 22 episodes which were very popular in Canada. And what did HGTV US do? They condensed the 22 episodes into 11, put the emphasis on those two bickering instead of the renovation and completely messed up the timeline during editing. So frustrating.

Not necessarily. In the latest Flip or Flop episodes T&C didn't install upper cabinets either and that house sold for over $2M. The money they spent on that house would be probably be enough for a whole season of Bargain Block. Floating shelves look pretty but they're very impractical. Some of the cabinets in the kitchen I inherited from my mom don't have doors and it's such a hassle to constantly clean everything.

Re-watched the end of the episode and they paid $30K in closing costs. My guess is since it was a cash buyer, they sold it to an investor. Investors are often experienced buyers and they might not hire a realtor. No realtor means you are actually offering sellers a larger profit, making your offer more attractive. Assuming a 3 to 4% in fees and taxes, that would explain the closing costs. Only someone who lives on takeout or who's in desperate need of a house wouldn't mind such a dark kitchen. You'd think that them doing this for so long would've taught them to imagine what eliminating a window would do to a room. And I couldn't stop rolling me eyes when Christina wanted to do something unique and then chose a tile that was ... white and gray. Girl, your designs all look the same. Nobody's gonna remember if you used a tile two years ago.

HGTV have reposted a hilarious spoof video by comedienne Sarah Jay Pierce about the typical house hunters on their shows. Their social media peeps seem to have a great sense of humor.

I'm not getting this. All the houses were listed for the same price and they all had the same budget so this whole premise of "who improves the value of the home the most" is bonkers. Since time is money when it comes to real estate, shouldn't the ones who sell the house the quickest win?

Where did you find the info about the houses being still active? Not that I'm surprised to find out that that HGTV wasn't exactly accurate in the episode.

Ashley and Michael posted on their Instagram that they're getting a third season and a pic of them with the film crew. Can't wait for the episodes.

Thank you for the pics! It's a beautiful house! I can understand someone wanting to sell a house that's costing them so much money each month. But I wish DIY had been upfront about it. Most people would've gotten it if they had properly explained the reason why they want to sell. And if they're empty nesters, such a house is way too large. You need some staff to clean all those rooms and keep the garden pretty. But the way DIY handled it wasn't ok in my book. I thought for just two people who only entertain occasionally the kitchen was large enough. But for a 3.6 million house, it's rather on the small side. I would've used half of the ugly den to make the kitchen bigger, use the other half as a laundry room and make the former kitchen a den. Or use the whole den and put the laundry where they did on the show. It's not like there's a scarcity of living rooms in the house. But I guess it was a money issue.

Last night's episode was amazing. The whole house was absolutely incredible and when they showed the Turkish room I just stared at the TV with my mouth open. Brett did a great job preserving the original feel while making it more functional. There wasn't a single thing I disliked. The way he moved the rooms around made sense without any of them feeling out of place.

I can't stand Fixer Upper. It's too fake and formulaic for my taste and the Gaines aren't my cup of tea either. But I can simply skip the show when it's on. No problem. But the whole Magnolia channel replacing DIY with all the shows I love and replacing them with shows similar to theirs really made me sad. I had hoped that they would move to Discovery+ and DIY would stay. Hopefully they'll keep at least some of my favorite shows like Restoring Galveston and Restored.

I asked them on Instagram whether it was true and they said it's the kind of BS people will post on the internet. It definitely isn't for sale and hasn't been opened yet either.

Where did you find that info? It isn't on their real estate page. Did it sell already? Re the disability access. My guess it wasn't really finished. No way they'd pass inspection on theses restrooms. The whole episode felt like "We need another episode. What can we use as a filler?"

Her wallpaper choices would have me run screaming to the hill if I had to live in her houses but what annoys me way more is always asking people for advice and then ignoring everything those people say (usually her dad) and doing what she had planned all along. I mean why ask them in the first place?
