  1. Wardrobe was actually a plot point earlier in the season, when she walked out in that big brash red?  yellow?  (I can't remember) coat and then swapped with her lookalike in the security tent at her daughter's soccer game.

I remember when it was recommended that she consult with a stylist, resisted, and then went along as a way of deflecting attention on something else - it may have been the soccer game episode.

  2. So then who will be the mole in SoS's inner circle ('cause ya know there has to be a mole)? I'm guessing Daisy and or Matt will be the red herring(s), and Jay is the mole. It just better not be sweet Blake!

ETA: I'm changing my mole vote to Matt. Didn't he feed Daisy some miss-information last episode? Plus it would explain the zero chemistry between them since day one, IMO.

I'm pretty sure the mole was Juliet, unless I missed something - which definitely could have happened.
  3. DH knows a lot of presidential history, and he knew Hoover graduated from Stanford, but neither of us remembered Palo Alto as the city.

We've been watching NYPD Blue reruns, and usually get the last 15 minutes or so of Jeopardy!

  4. I was thinking the fibbie would be shot when he was in the car wearing the hat by a mob hit man mistaking him for the witness. Liked the Eddie/Jamie ending, but I hope they stay partners and friends and don't end up romantic partners.

  5. JF, why can't Edith have one single moment of happiness?  Now that Mrs. Drewe is against her, Rosamund and Granny want to send Marigold to an orphanage.  I could tolerate Mary's narcissism better if Edith were allowed just a bit of happiness.  Rose is a twit but she gets to be happy.

But Edith did have a single moment of happiness, which led to her current situation!

Regarding Bates and Anna - Bates was convicted, then exonerated, of the murder of Vera, who poisoned herself and set it up to look like Bates did it.  Bates also went to prison by saying he'd stolen the silver, but he took the fall so Vera wouldn't go to prison.  If I've misremembered this, I'm happy to be corrected.  But as far as I recall, Bates never actually murdered or stole, and threatened his cellmate in prison only to save himself.

  6. I liked this most recent episode, even though it seemed like a long PSA.  Loved Peggy showing up at the imaging center.

I know it's not reality, but I would hope the Chicago PD would require physicals of its officer at least every other year, if not annually!

  7. Well, we all know how it will turn out and I - personally - think it will be the best for child and mother. Marigold will be with her real mother who dotes on her, she will inherit her real father's and mother's money and she will have a good education and all advantages that come with wealth.

The only poor person in this whole thing is Mrs Drewe.

I don't know if I would go that far.  This isn't Mrs. Drewe's biological child, foster kid or even adopted child.  I would agree that Mrs. Drewe is an innocent party in all this, but I don't think of Marigold as Mrs. Drewe's child.  I view Mrs. Drewe's actions with Marigold as purely a reaction to Edith being overbearing and in the way.

There may be no legal documents stating that Edith is giving up her parental rights and that the Drewes are legally adopting Marigold, but I think it's open to question, who is Marigold's real mother?  Edith, who gave birth, nursed and cared for, and then gave her to the Shroeders, then took her back and gave her to the Drewes?  Or Margie Drewe, who took Marigold in, and cares and loves her just as she does her biological children?  As an adopted child myself, and soon to be the grandmother of an adopted child, I think saying Marigold will be with her "real mother" is a slap in the face to Mrs. Drewe and to all foster and adoptive mothers to whom the biological heritage is no barrier to love for the children.

Having said that, something needs to soften Mrs. Drewes' hostility to Lady Edith.  If that can happen, Edith would be able to assist Marigold financially and provide her with education, introduction to others who might help her as she grows up and becomes an adult, and so forth.  Edith does need to start realizing that she needs to put Marigold first, and that she currently isn't doing that.  She might think she is, but she just isn't.

  8. I thought this was the best disguise they've ever done on UB!  Just shows how bad the wigs usually are.

I'm not into the home show/party thing any more.  Been there done that, never need to do it again.  So many of these kinds of companies say they care for their sales force, the people who set up and present the goods at the party, it mostly seems like lip service to me, and that's what I think we saw between Jessica and Grace.

  9. I always like when they go to Namibia because it reminds me of season 1 when they didn't go to Namibia. I just have to be quick to get the quote out before my husband can say it (although if we watch during the day when our 3-year-old son is up, neither of us can give the full quote).

What is the quote?  From an earlier season?

I always remember the SNL skit, Fondue Pots for Namibia.  http://www.tv.com/shows/saturday-night-live/madeline-kahn-carly-simon-112164/

  10. Rick Forman, Founder and CEO of Forman Mills, goes undercover at his discount apparel stores and warehouse.

Like a lot of CEOs and founders, Rick seemed pretty out of touch, almost clueless.  Like the Rocket Fizz guy, how could he not know how inefficient the POS system he had in his stores were?  Or the price check procedure?

Newbie operating a forklift always good for a few laughs.  I'm waiting for an injury accident to occur when the UB is learning how to operate some of the machinery, though.

Nice that he instituted the profit-sharing to benefit all the employees, not just the ones who were on the show.

  11. I enjoyed and appreciated the Home Improvement references, but it seemed heavy-handed. Kristin was in the episode? Didn't miss Boyd or Ryan at all. We've seen Eve at the VFW before, but this was a good use of the situation. Mr. Zoey was a clerical worker, Viet Nam era, Air Force, so he found Ed's service story amusing, in a good way.

Vanessa's not a teacher yet. At least I think she's still in training.

  12. Nikki was correct, though - allegedly was the correct term.  I really don't get the Nikki-hate.  I like the character.  I like it better when she's more background than focus, but still like her.

I was really hoping Henry was wrong, and that the guy had not killed the cop after all.

Sad about the parents of the adult film worker who committed suicide.  There are much healthier ways to handle your grief.  But then we wouldn't have the story in this episode.

So glad that Jenko turned out to be right, and that Jamie eventually came around.

Frank reminds me of my dad.  He had his own moral compass and didn't like it when it seemed he needed to consider other points of view.

  13. I couldn't see, what was that picture Edith put under her pillow? Her daughter or her love-a

I thought someone was going to find the pic. Guess it got burned.

It was her daughter as a baby. I had to pause and move closer to the screen to see for sure. I was touched, but I also wondered if it would be found, maybe in the clean-up.
  14. That unwed mothers home was just awful, but I loved Avril. When Chummy was talking to her after she gave birth & she said something about her being together with her baby for weeks, I thought how horrible that was. They let those poor girls bond with their babies for weeks then took them away.

Something very similar happened in Philomena, where the girls saw their children until they were taken away, sometimes without warning or notice.  Heart-wrenching for both the mothers and their babies.

The "home for wayward girls" that promised a home and a caring place for these young women to have their babies, but turned out to be quite the opposite, was difficult to watch.  That matron was a witchy piece of work!  Glad that Avril blew the whistle, and that Chummy and Patsy were able to step in and provide the care that was needed.

Of all the secular midwives, it made perfect sense to me for Cynthia to feel a call to the religious aspect and to become both a nun and a midwife.  It puzzles me that some felt this came out of the blue; on the contrary, I thought Cynthia had been heading towards this all along.

So happy that Peter passed the exam despite staying up to care for 'young master' Freddie and Chummy being unable to be there too.

I loved the scenes with 'Mature Jennifer' and her husband, and loved that it turned out that Cynthia gave the lamb to Jenny.

Can hardly wait for the return of this series in the spring!

  15. Thanks for making this topic!

OK episode last night.  I kind of liked how Victoria and Carl worked through her cheating in the relationship.

I get why Carl wanted Victoria to come along on the trip, but I don't get why Victoria, Molly, and Joyce would want to go.  Other than it's a sitcom, and that's what sitcommy characters do.

  16. Mike assures Molly he'll be home in time for Christmas Eve dinner until he and Carl end up in the back of a stolen truck. Also, Molly is upset with Vince for trying to change the family's Christmas traditions.

What have they done to our Molly?  She used to be fun, responsible, caring, and not such a be-otch. I'm calling this character assassination! Enough already!

Liked Mike and Carl in the back of the truck, and Carl's Christmas confession was touching. Nerf numchucks was funny. Carl's Nana should have joined them for dinner; since everyone was a couple, maybe she could have brought a boyfriend.

I've watched this show with hope since the beginning, and I'll probably keep watching it when I can, but I fear it won't get any better. And that's too bad; it had such potential.

Anyone else think that we could do a season thread rather than separate episode threads?

  17. Why did they suddenly have laptops and smartphones in this episode? I thought they weren't allowed to have devices like that, which one could use to navigate or look up information.

They are allowed to borrow/use such a device, or ask someone else to look something up on such a device. They can't have their own device with them.

  18. Molly's book advance is at risk as she tries to overcome writer's block; Mike worries he could be part of the problem.

Some funny bits, including Molly's incredulity that Mike was listening to advice from Carl.  Also the sight gag regarding the plunger and the hemorrhoid pillow.  Not enough Victoria, but Mike's mother with the erotic books was amusing.

I liked also how they showed Mike trying to get tough and yelling at Molly, then immediately backing down and comforting her because she was crying.  The moments that show they care about each other are too rare, but touching when they happen.

  19. Molly returns home after she completed an eight week writing [work] shop on the fifth season premiere.

OK episode.  Typical Molly - spend her advance before it's really earned.  She still has to write the rest of the book.  I was glad Mike put his foot down.

Other notes - too many people in that house!  I thought Victoria looked heavier than last season.  A few good one-liners which I can't recall at the moment.
