  1. Bewitched was supposed to be so progressive as far as female characters go - and maybe for its time it was - but all I can see is a woman who has to not only give up her position in her society but not even use her main talent at all just for a man.

I love catching the old reruns of Bewitched. It was a fun and silly show (and reminds me of watching reruns on the old WTBS station in Atlanta when I was a kid) but I do agree with your post.

Bewitched and The Brady Bunch (another perennial favorite) are dated to me in the sense that neither woman (Samantha and Carol) work and WTF do they do all day?  I guess we see Sam trying to fix the messes caused by her husband/mother/children/witchcraft but otherwise?  And Carol has a live-in housekeeper (although I will throw her a very small bone and say we did see her preparing meals/shopping/talking about PTA on occasion).

  2. Lynne's endless dry-eyed weeping over the restraining order, complete with her husband checking her blood pressure at intervals.

I am obviously a blackhearted bitch because these scenes made me laugh and chuckle.  It's hard to take someone with blue tipped hair seriously.

And a blood pressure cuff?  Really?  Someone needs to call Shannon from the OC to show up with her herbal remedies.  Or at least a Xanax.

I don't know about the laws in Connecticut but it's not that easy to get a TRO here in California.  Somebody pissing you off doesn't exactly cut it.  However, Leha's husband is a police officer so it's possible he pulled a few strings or called in a favor.

  3. Shame on Kim and Kroy for letting Brielle act like the little brat she is.  Here's a thought - - she's seventeen and a half, make her get a job.  Kim mentioned she was getting her nails done, her hair done, going to Chick Fil A, getting ice cream.  I'm sure K & K are paying for that.  STOP.  Make her earn some money and not on her back, like her mother.

Funny how Kim is so worried about Ariana liking boys at 12 (totally normal) but sees nothing wrong with lazy ass Brielle.

  4. (I totally believe Eddie is into women and that he's sexually attracted to Tamra)

Aren't these two statements contradictory?  There are women and then there's Tamra.

That said, if Eddie is sexually attracted to Tamra, he may want to invest in a good therapist.

There have been some incidents of Heather being 2 faced with Tamra this season.

Can I high five her for this?   I generally don't care for two faced people but when it's being done to Tamra, I'm all for it.

My guess? In Bali, Tamra said something about the husband's sexual orientation, and the shit hit the fan.

I'm sure whatever Tamra said it was taken out of contents and she was probably drunk and therefore cannot remember what she said or didn't say.   Maybe she accused Danielle's husband of going to BASS LAKE! in a FAMILY VAN!

  5. I think that RHONY has been late to the game, but I think the butt fucking with the greasy pirate "girls trip" really trashed up the series, which makes Heather and her motherfucker seem quaint by comparison.  IMHO of course.

This is just begging for OC's Tamra to stop by and ask over a dinner party "Do you do anal?" and then talk about being gangbanged by monkeys and getting over crabs before running off into the night.  OC's Vicki and Kristen can do their "OH!" face, Heather can call her a motherfucker, Aviva can throw her leg at her, LuAnn can advise on how to properly handle conversation after this and Vicki can shriek about it.  Carole can write about it in her blog.

    Hey, a gal can dream.

  6. If Aviva is an optimist, I have Robert Downey, Jr. tied naked to my bed.  (Don't I WISH).

Overall, I was fairly bored with the Aviva Hour.  Everything except "did you plan on taking off your leg?" was unnecessary and irrelevant.   I would rather have devoted time to the Moaner's situation with Mario (like it or not).  Did Andy even ask Carole how her book was doing?  Or if Kristen had gotten any more modeling gigs?  How about LuAnn's HSN line?

Word on the street is that Bravo wants LuAnn back as a full-time housewife.  Holla!  I hope they do get her back.  I mean that in all sincerity.

  7. Or is she scared of Tamra. The way she sat there, refusing to even talk to Tamra - she looked like she had fear in her eyes. It's like some of these ladies (not the newer ones) are scared to cross Backdoor Tammy, and I really want to know why.

Vicki and Tamra have been friends, or at least good acquaintances, for a handful of years now.  My guess is that Vicki is afraid of what Tamra may say.  I'm sure Tamra has a pretty good idea where Vicki has buried the bodies.  (And they're not in any prayer box in Bali)

(that and possibly her suction power).

That could explain why Tamra's eyes are always so squinty and beady.

  8. I think Warren William was so stuck in peoples' minds as a wicked character in pre-code movies that his career dwindled afterwards. It's a shame. He was also a lot of fun as Caesar in the Claudette Colbert Cleoopatra.

I agree.  He was so fantastic in his pre-Codes.  A shame that he lost popularity going into the late 30s and early 40s.

I find it fascinating that he had an entrepreneurial mind.  He invented an early version of an RV when he wanted to be able to sleep on his drive in to the studio.

  9. @BitchOnWheelz, Vicki had a shrieking fit when a car service had the nerve to send a FAMILY VAN! to pick up her family at Chez Gunvalson for a vacation.  She was expecting a limo, not a Ford Aerostar.

That moment ranks right up there with her getting clocked in the head with a football at Lake Havasu, in my book.  Classic Vicki.  And please don't ever change.

Seriously, the F-Bombs and screaming at the restaurant while guests were trying to enjoy a lovely and undoubtedly expensive dinner on possibly their dream vacations of a lifetime???  No excuse.  What total disregard for others.  What is wrong with these women.

I think Tamra only has 2 volumes - - shrieking and monkey-on-crack mind numblingly, obnoxiously LOUD.

  10. Add me to the list of disappointed peeps that Tamra was too much of a chickenshit to stay and attempt to defend herself versus screeching off into the night.  I also noticed that she seemed perfectly fine - -not a straw rat hair out of place, not a tear squeezed out of that Botoxed face - - when Heather came to check on her.

Funny how it's always everyone else who is lying but Tamra and how Tamra is either so drunk she doesn't remember or things are taken out of "contents." I guess smarts don't grow on rice trees.

There had better be an EPIC takedown on the reunion.  I want this bitch to get her comeuppance and good.

  11. Vicki shrieking in the FAMILY VAN before even seeing a monkey made me want to clock the heffa. She just should have been chloroformed and left on the bus.

Holy crap, this made me bust out laughing . . . which scored me more than a few puzzled/concerned/irritated looks here at the office with my supposedly random snorts and laughter.  Just the thought of Vicki being clocked and chloroformed fills my little black heart with glee (and I usually don't mind Vicki - - maybe when she's not around that sea beast Tamra).

I like what she said about those two idiots Backdoor Tamra and Icky Vicki opening closed cabinets at a place of worship. I think that is one of the rudest most disrespectful uncouth things I have ever seen done on this show.

Tamra + Vicki = rude, disrespect and uncouth.  So there you go.   But in a show that's been chock full of rude, disrespectful and uncouth things (see: Slade Smiley, Gretchen Rossi, the Curtin females, etc.) to say this one of the worst says a lot.

Wouldn't go near her. Professional courtesy.

Yet another snort and laugh out loud moment.  You guys are killing me today.

Say what you want about how pretentious Heather is but even Miss Prisspot seems to be game with whatever is going on vacation wise.  She was cool with the monkeys, cool with the fish pedicure and I recall her being cool about the whitewater thing on a previous season.  Shannon seems to be the same.  Funny how the two ladies who seem to think they are the coolest are the most annoying and narrow minded during the trips.

I know it's not going to happen but I would get down on my hands and knees and thank Baby Jesus if Tamra actually trips, falls and face plants during her "you'll never see my face again!" shriek as she runs into the night.

  12. William Powell day was a joy for me. I knew I was going to be home so I recorded everything. I had to delete some good stuff just to make room.

Later, at the Christmas party they're hosting; I absolutely adore the candy-striped dress she's wearing.

And speaking of William Powell, it's kinda surprising he played so many dapper roles, like suave jewel thieves or charming seducers. I guess what I mean is he was not classically handsome like a Cary Grant.

I love, love, love William Powell.  There is something about him that I find so charming, endearing and yes, sexy too.  No, he wasn't classically handsome but he was suave and debonair and had some really great one liners in his films.  He just came alive on the screen.   I'll never forget a statement that Myrna Loy made about him - - He was a brilliant actor, a delightful companion, a great friend and, above all, a true gentleman.

  13. I posted earlier that I loved, loved, loved the pilot.  Still do.  Got Starz to watch it throughout the season and probably watched the pilot again a good 3 times over the weekend.

As far as pilots go, I think this one was PERFECTION.  The pace was just quick enough to get a feel for the characters without dragging and it certainly left me wanting more and anticipating what was coming.  As others have pointed out, the score is gorgeous and the scenery is stunning.  I am also a never-read-the-book poster and have no mental images to use with Claire, Frank, Jamie, et al but I think all the actors nailed their parts.

I have started listening to the audio version.  I may give the books a go but audio is working well for me, since I seem to be very ADD with my books these days.

  14. I love, love, love Daphne DuMaurier's Rebecca and I think Hitchcock's 1940 version is fantastic.  They did have to change a few things to suit the 1940 movie audience but overall, it's spectacular.

On the other hand, James Cain's written Mildred Pierce is not nearly as classic and well done as the Curtiz/Crawford film version.  Maybe it translates to film better or maybe the film's ending puts the book's ending to shame (which is so very weak, in my opinion).  Regardless, I think the film is one of the better 40s noirs.

I love Ang Lee's Sense and Sensibility.  So beautifully shot and I think Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet so perfectly capture Elinor and Marianne and their closeness.  I also think Alan Rickman is tops as Colonel Brandon, whom I actually love more than Hugh Grant's Edward Ferrars.

  15. Her face kind of looks like it's been smashed. Looks aside, I don't think I've ever been convinced by any of her performances that she can actually act worth a damn.

Cameron Diaz has always reminded me of a weird Muppet.   I generally don't care for her although I do like her in The Holiday and I liked her in The Other Woman.

I don't like Lindsay Lohan although I suspect it's more about her personal life than her (nearly nonexistent) professional one.

I cannot stand Tom Cruise but again, probably more personal life and Scientology connection than his professional life.

For whatever reason, I don't care for Marg Helgenberger.  Maybe it's how she's jacked up her face or maybe the ridiculous notion that a 50 year old CSI would run around a crime scene in stilletos and skin tight jeans.

I like Sarah Jessica Parker but do not like that stupid, high pitched scream she did as Carrie Bradshaw ad nauseum.  Ugh.

  16. I cry during any sports movie, animal movie and/or Michael Landon program.  (The Ingalls family pulls together in times of crisis?  I cry.  Someone dies?  I cry.  Mary loses her sight?  I cry.  Michael Landon cries?  I cry.)

Outside of that, despite having seen it probably close to 100 times and owning the DVD, I cry like a fool EVERY time I watch Somewhere in Time.  Seeing Christopher Reeve with that gut wrenching cry and the end . . . gets me every damn time.

  17. Michael Pare will always = Eddie and the Cruisers for me.  Loved that movie and loved the soundtrack (still do, actually).

How about Over the Edge? I think it was Matt Dillon first movie. Also My Bodyguard. Another early movie with him.

I remember Over the Edge.  I remember watching it on HBO in the early 80s.  It was about a group of "problem" or "out of control" teens (for late 70s standards anyhow).  I recall feeling very sad about that movie but it's been a long time since I've seen it.

I used to love Matt Dillon.  He was everywhere it seemed in the early 80s.

Anyone remember Sooner or Later with Rex Smith?  He played a rock and roll singer in his early 20s who started dating a girl he thought was 18 but she was actually something like 14 or 15.  I used to have the book and read it many times!

  18. Even though I loath musicals; Showgirls, and Xanadu.

Xanadu is so amazingly, painfully bad that it's damn good.  Who couldn't imagine taking 1940s big band music and late 70s rock and meshing it together with rollerskates?  Genius!

Plus, Olivia Newton-John's peasant-y dresses and skirts, barrettes with ribbons and ELO rock.

  19. I couldn't even finish it.  It was so boring.  Didn't even attempt to watch the movie.

I didn't watch the movie either (Time Traveler's Wife).  I figured I would hate it.

My own UO: I loved A Wrinkle in Time

Did you see that a Disney movie is in the works?
