  1. Jays fans, please look after our boys, especially Pauly D. He may not have lived up to his big contract, but he has an even bigger heart. So many Cardinals going to Toronto, I guess I know who to root for the rest of the season! (Barring Jack being traded to a team I don't hate.)
  2. Had the lead after 5, then the bullpen gave it up. This is the story of the 2023 Cardinals. #198andcounting ETA - we got the win, so yay? But Gallegos, the "winning" pitcher is the one who surrendered Waino's lead. That just seems patently unfair (but I realize wins for relievers are basically nonsense). That's baseball for ya!
  3. Adam Wainwright is back on the bump tonight against the Snakes, no live BP, no rehab start. He's one of my favorite - if not the favorite - players of all time, and I just want him to do well. I honestly care more about that than the final score at this point. This is a sentiment he would absolutely HATE, and the fact he would hate it is part of the reason I love him, if that makes sense. LOL It pisses me off that some "fans" are saying he's selfish and only cares about getting to 200 wins, when: They would sell their souls for just one win in MLB; Obviously, 200 is a big deal to him and he's never said otherwise; The Cards suck this year, we're selling, and Waino getting 200 might be the only thing we have to look forward to for the rest of the season; We have literally no one else, the bullpen is exhausted, everyone we've called up from AAA has tanked; It's clear to me that he's taking the mound tonight at considerable risk to his own ego - with no live pitching, there's every chance it will be more of the same from his last few starts - to give the team whatever innings he can give them. Basically, any Cardinals "fan" who isn't pulling for Uncle Charlie to find some devil magic and finish his last season with dignity and a few more wins can fuck right off and go "support" another team.
  4. Robo umps NOW. The Cubs congratulating themselves on that win... bullshit. You didn't win, the ump GAVE it to you. Also, these AppleTV games are awful.
  5. Money Isn’t Winning in MLB This Season. Is That Good or Bad for Baseball?
  6. Black pants look stupid. Especially with navy jerseys. Here's an idea, Fox. How about you show the damned game. You know, the guys who are currently playing. Just a thought.
  7. I don't have a problem with the balanced schedule, but I don't really see any value in it, either. Playing the same teams can be boring for rabid fans who watch 162, but it also allows storylines and rivalries to build for more casual fans. I know a big benefit is supposed to be having the game's stars get around to everywhere, but I really don't think that matters as much as they think it does. If I want to see Mike Trout play, what's stopping me now? Is there that much value in seeing him play in my team's stadium? I care a lot more about the Reds' young team, and watching their rookie Elly de la Cruz square off against our rookie and imagining what the next several years will be like in our division. Why on earth would I care about watching the Cardinals play... the Mariners? Or the Rays? There's no history there, no geographic interest, minimal effect on each other's playoff chances.
  8. Watching the Cardinals/Marlins game, and I think I've watched tennis matches with louder crowds.
  9. They manage to get it together every third game or so. Just enough to remind us what they should be capable of doing.
  10. Waiting for the first pitch in London! Hopefully it's a great game, even if the Cardinals and Cubs are both having down years. I thought this was an interesting listen. The beat writer for the Post-Dispatch sat down to talk to two British Cardinals fans plus one British baseball podcaster. It's fun to hear their enthusiasm for the game, how they became fans, what it's like trying to follow MLB from across the pond. A Baseball Writer in King Arthur's Court And here's a great read from The Guardian, to get a UK perspective. London calling for devout MLB fans as historic rivalry goes international To clarify, I'm not personally in London. I wish!
  11. This Cards/Nats game is insane. They won't call or delay it because the Cards are due to hop on a plane to London. Nootbaar was just up, literally wiping rain off the bill of his helmet seconds before each pitch. I'm not sure I've ever seen a game continue in this kind of rain. eta: I don't even care if we win. I just want to get out of here without somebody getting injured. Damn.
  12. @Lantern7 Don't give up now! You're about to be visited by the 2023 Cardinals. I sense a sweep coming your way.
  13. Thanks for the info! That is very sweet. I just wish there was a little pair of red stockings somewhere or a red outline on the letters or something. But I'm not a Bostonian, so clearly I'm not the target audience. They are generally much better than most of the other ones I've seen. I'm dreading the Cardinals CC jerseys. Thankfully we don't get them until 2024... this season is already bad enough! 🀣
  14. Yeah, seems crazy there is NO red, when their team is literally named for their iconic RED uniforms...
  15. I don't work in the AI space, but I do work in digital marketing automation. I've created hundreds, maybe thousands, of automated processes in the past decade. They save tremendous amounts of time, remove human error, and cut down on boring, repetitive tasks. But... they fail. A lot. Sometimes because of things that couldn't have been anticipated, sometimes because of things that I should have anticipated but didn't! Sometimes there are data errors, or server errors. And sometimes there is nothing wrong that I can find, and if I run it again it works, so it gets written off as a glitch. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ
  16. None of these guys' farms are that remote. They're all within an hour of a major city - Charlotte, Atlanta, Nashville, and Tulsa. I live much deeper in the country, and we have Starbucks, Sephora, and a mall 30 minutes away in a city of 40K people. We also - for better or worse - have ready access to fake nails, spray tans, extensions, false lashes, and all the rest. We just have to drive a little farther. We live in the country, but it's still 2023 here. LOL
  17. That's a tough one. My sister's kids all seemed to get way too attached to their phones when they were SS's age, and honestly they kind of came out of it on their own. But bad grades stick with you, even at that age. There's probably nothing you or H can say to EX that will make a difference. Does H have a relationship with SS's teacher? Could he put a bug in his/her ear and ask him/her to ask about electronic usage at the next parent/teacher conference? (Without attributing it to H, of course.) In my experience, things like that are accepted more readily coming from a third party.
  18. Pretty sure we're over it. Too busy spiraling about our poor start. πŸ˜† Honestly, though, his death was mentioned in the Cards subreddit and it was generally acknowledged that call didn't matter. Good guy who made a bad call. That's baseball!
  19. That's too bad! I use zoom daily for work, and seldom have any real issues, even on my crappy rural internet. Lag time would drive me bananas. When I worked in TV many moons ago, every once in awhile our network feed would get slightly out of sync, and for some reason nobody would notice but me. The number of times I called the control room on my day off to tell them to fix. the. damn. sync. LOL Thank you for that amazing background explanation on hearing aids. Count my dad as one who has them and almost never wears them. I'm 100% sure that his provider never even said anything about needing to come back for adjustments. Grrrrr......
  20. The more the Cardinals struggle, the more I see a very small but loud-mouthed group of fans calling for them to sign Bauer. I would rather lose every game for the rest of the season than have that asshole ever wear the birds on the bat.
  21. Predictions before tonight's episode: Allen: picks Khelsi, and she says yes. Rebecca is just too similar to his personality. Plus she seems to have a growing business that is tied to California, and I don't see her moving.* Hunter: picks Meghan, and she says maybe. I'm not sure she's as into him as he is into her, and I think she's going to want time and space away from the show to decide. I see friend vibes with Sydney. Again, they're too similar, and she has a growing business in Nashville.* Landon: picks Ashley L, and she says yes. I think they have more of a connection than has been shown. For all that he picked Ashley Blue Hair for the first solo date and he's twice pulled her for reassurance, we've never seen them kiss once (but he has kissed Ashley L and Kylie). I think meeting her daughter will give him pause as well (and it should give ABH pause, too, but I'm not holding out hope). There's a HUGE difference between dating a mom who already lives in your area, and asking a mom to move her kid half a country away from everyone she knows for a reality show relationship. Ryan: picks Sara(h) and she says, um, thank you, but no. I've never gotten the impression that any of Ryan's ladies (except maybe Lily) see this as anything other than a lark. Ryan won't be heartbroken. Side note - I think Ryan is the one Jennifer Nettles describes as making "a big mistake" in the promo for last week, but it's not that he sent home the wrong person. This was aired in the first episode in the season trailer, but mild spoiler ahead! There was video of him telling someone he made a mistake, and it looks like the back of Haley's head. I think he seeks her out when he's in NYC for Sara(h)'s home visit to just apologize for how he sent her home. *I wish they hadn't cast people who live so far away from the farmers and have location-specific jobs. Event planners, bloggers, healthcare workers... those jobs can be anywhere. But someone who's getting a country music booking agency off the ground, or has an established horse training business with Hollywood clients? I can't imagine they would honestly consider moving.
  22. This is a great suggestion! I have hearing loss, and I rely on lip reading to supplement my hearing. At work, zoom has made such a difference for me. Back in yore, we did a lot of conference calls at my company, often with several people together and then a few of us calling in from separate locations. It was awful. With zoom, I can see everyone's faces, and it has dramatically improved what I can "hear". (Which is why I'm a big advocate for "cameras on" requirements, but that's a rant for the work topic.)
  23. Rethinking this and realizing the crazy recency bias I showed here. Bring back peak Bob Gibson!
  24. Pujols is probably the obvious answer, but I'm going to go with Chris Carpenter. Our lineup is solid, and we have a pretty good first baseman. πŸ˜‰ We need starting pitching, especially if we get to the playoffs.
