  1. idk, personally I gave it a shot Wednesday morning buuut it's too loud and dark and draining for me in the morning right now so i'm on an MJ break until the trial is over, trying to limit it to watching the summaries in the p.m. on Joy (for energy) and Rachel (for depth), this worked well for me yesterday...ymmv. (btw you all need to watch Rachel's interview w Fani Willis from yesterday, it was the most amazing thing i've seen in months). eta: also, altho not watching live, I've been catching up on next-day clips on the internetz of the Steph katy hallie badass trio, omg. they grilled this Robert Ray dude the other day and it was hilarious!!!!!! it wasn't even good cop/bad cop, it was just like 3x badass cops, I can't even. Also, some news, I now like Brian Williams. I used to not like him because I thought he was an overgrown Ken Doll, I didn't like when he randomly took over women's shows, but you guys were like, give him a chance, and omg, yes, he's fucking hilarious, it's just super subtle ahahahahaha. (slightly off topic but I think relevant comparatively in terms of overall coverage of this stuff etc etc. Maybe)
  2. this was nuts!! she seemed genuinely sad and was having this powerful moment of acknowledgment and vulnerability etc, and then Joe cut her off and was like *pompous voice* "like *I* said on January 6th, if these had been muslims blah blah blah", omg dude, stfu, it's not about youuuuuuu right now. I like him and I don't really think it's intentional but sometimes can't even with him. Happy to see High-lemann back!! I think he and the Axios dude were competing for best backdrop twin lamps. Idk, Jim's definitely looked more expensive.
  3. i don't think they're expecting a guilty verdict, tho it's not all for naught because they can't really let this fascist shit slide without a least putting up a fight so the great great grandkids at least will know they tried, and letting the enablers go on the official record for history to judge. It's a special form of masochism for sure... and a depressing as fuck exercise in its sheer futility... buuuut it IS kinda necessary... idk i was thinking of that other place in Florida they used to go to where there was a sort of newsdesk, surely they could at least go there after covid, it was less jarring than the boxes and didn't lead to the constant joe-staring-at-you overdose, yikes... I have Peacock and i didn't see anything on there... but honestly idk, i almost wanna just stay away from most of the impeachment stuff. That is, I think it's important and i care about the outcome, buuut if i have to watch the GOP shitshow apologist theatrics imma have to gouge my eyes out, i am thisclose to a nervous breakdown lmao. are you guys watching it all, or...? I was thinking of maybe just limiting it the next few days to watching Rachel in the p.m. for a non-hysterical summary, I like her, she's calming eta: ok I totally caved and checked my dvr and there's steph and katy and hallie at one desk, omg! not this much class and intelligence in one room since jefferson (or was it lincoln??) dined alone, i'm dying. It almost makes up for all the fuckery we're about to endure
  4. omg...enough with the entire first hour being taken up by eulogizing the republican party gaaah. It's literally the same talking points every.damn.day. what is happening to the republican party? what does it mean to be a *real* conservative? are the trumpists behaving like *real* conservatives (spoilers: fuck no. also, we already know that, because we are smart.) *insert clip of republicans saying crazy shit* *insert Joe condescendingly explaining to audience why the crazy shit is crazy shit*, buuuut actually, weknowdis, because again, we are smart. Like when did this stop being a show for smart people? I wish the whole GOP would just go into a bar somewhere, get super drunk and hash out what they are and who they wanna be, and then let everyone else know....why do we have to sit thru their endlessly circular blame fest of platitudes like they're a divorced couple rehashing their obviously toxic-ass marriage...while twiddling our thumbs waiting for actual news about the actual current administration....gaaaaah ok ok enough complaining...! I liked Mika's hilarious aside today about the men in congress thinking with parts that are not their brains, ahaha!!! tbh Joe rants like every damn day and it annoys me, but Mika really only does it once a month, and when she does I kinda like it. ymmv but I miss her I hope after the pandemic they can get back to doing the whole show together again, since they moved her this year and made Joe the king of everything i've been kinda overdosing on him tbh. I like him but like...in moderation..? Also Kurt Bardella's intellectual honesty about his cynical outlook working for the GOP, and then actually using that to give advice to Dems on what they should do now, is really fucking refreshing, damn. gold star.
  5. it's a real clip. They came straight from the WH Correspondent dinner. It was tongue-in-cheek, and funny, and irreverent show. ymmv but i don't really care about her boobs, that's her business, I like it because it's funny, and she's putting on her sunglasses because like all of us she's so done with Joe's BS 😎 ..shade... Kemper since it's Friday just to prove that gifs are fun imma post one just for you my friend 🥰 (not mine, from giphy) *giggle* #bridgerton 🍸 ETA: ok i should probably have but this in the Small Talk thread, for context. Basically this Bridgerton dude is Kemper's tee-vee boyfriend, bc she's a badass with good taste ☺️
  6. lmao, no, i think it's because it's #wearredandgive for women's heart health, it's actually really nice gesture, women wear red today to fight cardiovascular disease.❤️ 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️ I don't wanna be negative about everything so lemme at least say that Willie Geist is a perfect and adorable human and from now on I'll refer to Mr Pillow exclusively as Mr Porn-stache, because that is what he is. Also the Elissa Slotkin segment was great, aaaand.....I appreciate Keir Starmer for pointing out all the cruelty, human rights violations and international fuckery that has basically slipped under the radar while we've all been...distracted. I think it's actually a lot worse than we can even imagine because it's basically been a free-for-all, reinforced by unmonitored foreign-language versions of the Facebook disinformation fuckery. I hope they cover Myanmar at some point, I saw this briefly the other day and was like whaaa....? didn't this coup already happen, and it was over, and now it's happening again!? I agree with you guys, I don't understand the point of all the outrage....they did a really great show on Tuesday and it didn't have outrage, it had lots of topics and some fun and banter and sports and foreign policy and no yelling...and it still did okay in the ratings I think...so honestly i don't get the point of it.
  7. Rep Charlie Crist to Joe just now...."my dad always told me....you got two ears and one mouth...*listen* twice as much as you *speak*" *meaningful stare* ahahahahahahahaha ...joe i think your wife agrees. also your colleagues. also your viewers, neighbors, mosquitoes in your Florida studio and alligators in your backyard. He did this exact rant last year, verbatim, they coulda just replayed that ...it's like we're stuck in a timeloop gaaaaah. sorry i'm just so sick of all the old footage of 45's face and voice and BS, ugh, enough already. exhaust 😞 eta: sorry about all the gifs, it's joe's fault, he was being boring so i needed something to do
  8. happy Friday guys!! I made this gif just now to cheer us up and because i was bored while Joe was yelling at evangelicals, and kevin, and also tiny dogs and sleep-deprived people i wish these three could do a morning show 😞 eta: omg Fox news is getting sued! i feel instantly better now
  9. oh for sure, I totally agree, I meant lively arguments in terms of substance, not volume 😂 and also in terms of arguments not being a reason for anger but being fun and invigorating and interesting.... idk, maybe i'm expecting too much...
  10. idk, I don't mind the never trumpers hushed small-c people, buuuut I miss a real argument, not the one-on-one "tick this box if you agree with joe", "tick this box if you disagree with joe" stuff. also Joe has like one side of him that gets really belligerent if ppl disagree with him, but also another side of him that gets bemused and impressed when people disagree with him, and I like that side best when it comes out because it's generous and interesting and leads to really interesting discussions, i wish he would bring that back. like today I wished they had let Jason Johnson respond to Richard Haas instead of everything relating back to Joe. we haven't had a good substantive argument since Eddie Glaude went off on that other professor dude and we all thought they would end up having a fist fight in the princeton parking lot. Good times. *small voice* i guess I'm a lil more optimistic than you guys about Mika, i mean she did write a book about wage/salary related stuff, I think she has actual opinions if Joe would just STFU every now and then. Buuut YMMV of course.
  11. I know it's probably in his inbox buuuuut the Joe-Manchin-wasn't-invited-to-the-party thing and his crestfallen lil face made me laugh out loud. Oops...! ymmv but I like Claire in her kitchen with her cake and her banner and her wholesome outrage....it will never stop being nuts that she was replaced by josh fucking hawley, ugh. Sam Stein on fine form today. And Jason Johnson! Also the Tuberville trolling was pretty funny, "because of *weather*" is gonna be my new excuse for literally everything. I wish Mika had pushed back on Joe Manchin about the minimum wage?? she basically just said "we strongly disagree" and didn't elaborate, also yesterday joe was saying Mika had strong opinions about this but we didn't get to hear them, hello, now's the time!? it's kinda important...!
  12. Since we were discussing MJ regular Halperin, Newsmax, etc above...: huh, go figure. Nothing like the threat of an actual libel lawsuit to cause a 180 lmao
  13. oh man, Joe was waxing poetic in the spirit of....what did anand G call it again...Avuncular Kumbaya Bipartisan Shamanism today. Surprisingly Mike Barnicle was the voice of reason, saying there's no time to hold back when people have been completely fucked over and are suffering. Buuuut at least Joe being back to being Joe feels like normalcy finally returning again a lil disappointing that their 8 am break was so important they had to cut-off Professor Zuboff mid-sentence. Finally a real expert and she only got like 5 minutes gaaah. I hope she comes back. I liked today's show tho, it felt very fresh and varied and they actually covered a lot of topics, and there were some surprising moments like Yamiche's beautiful tribute to Toni Morrison...did she say she was writing a book??
  14. nah he's grinding lenses and watching spiders fight like spinoza, no one can convince me otherwise. Tbh he's giving off bachelor-vibes, I hope he's ok. also, hobbit or not, i still like his voice and also he has an...antique player piano?? with a roll thingy. Whoever on MSNBC has him on next I *demand* a demonstration of that thing before he's allowed to speak. Thanks for all the links everyone buuut having read both Mediaite and, ugh, Newsbusters (*gouges eyes out*) I am none the wiser about whether he should've been pushed harder on this or not. I guess the Lincoln project has an unusual kind of organizational structure anyway? it will never stop being insane that in just a few years political debates went from.... slurpees...to insurrections *cries* ETA: edited because apparently it's "gouging eyes out" not "gauging eyes out", i googled it for spelling and the images will haunt me forever
  15. sooo...would invoking the Defense Production Act actually allow Biden to do the things de Blasio was talking about?? if so, what the fuck are they waiting for?? Everyone's been saying for a year that it needs to be invoked but it's kinda surprising there has been so little discussion of the scope of what they could do i thought Mika did well today, it was a peaceful break from Joe, it was nice a combo in the 6am hour when she and Kasie were kinda hosting together. I was cracking up when her frenemy Roger Bennet showed up.. George Conway has some sort of mancave that looks like a 17th century astronomer lives there, he has a freakin gold telescope!! I didn't really know any of the details of the Lincoln Project sexual harassment allegations...has anyone followed that story, and what did you think of his response to Mika's question..? thanks Nittany Cougar for explaining the GameStop thing. Your explanation kinda matches what my understanding of it was when I first read about it but my brain was like wtf, no....this can't possibly be how the world works..?! Buuut apparently it is...yikes.
  16. I know i'm in the minority but I kinda like Susan del Percio, but YMMV. i mean at least she didn't have a last minute conversion, she's been pretty consistent in her opinions about this fuckery from the beginning. and her questions were good and relevant... i honestly think the problem is that everyone is struggling with the zoom format. It's almost as tho the lack of human interaction makes them all a lil tense and awkward and shouting, there isn't that friendly flow... I feel like I was maybe a bit mean to joe about the Facebook thing because he has been personally affected by that shitshow, so it's normal to be angry...it's just that i miss the *intellectual depth*, really exploring issues instead of yelling about them...and the humor... like that combination they used to have of funny irreverent people having smart conversations has kinda given way to tense angry people just repeating the same stuff over and over. also they don't even use normal relaxed speaking voices anymore, it's always loud tee-vee voices, and i'm just *not* a morning person gaaaaah. I miss my old morning show, idk what this is now but it's very unsuitable for mornings. to be fair, I actually thought joe was really good in the last half hour, the last segment was really interesting with Alexa Kissinger explaining the Congressional Review Act etc, and Joe asked good questions and let everyone talk *small voice* i still don't understand the GameStop thing. is it just me? It's been explained to me so many times now i have to pretend to get it but, no.... 😂😂
  17. dude this unstructured riffing about Facebook regulation is driving me nuts. Don't they know any media lawyers?? Any first amendment experts? Any social psychologists who've researched the effects of propaganda? Any anti-trust specialists? it's a serious subject and it's not clear-cut gaaaaah, like why can't it be a serious discussion... but all we get is this exhausting country lawyer yelling
  18. I was laughing when Mika was all "oh gosh, why did the Republicans in Georgia draw all the wrong lessons from what happened and impose further voting restrictions? That was unusual, were they confused?" and Errin was like...."omg noooo, Mika. They were being *consistent*....suppressing the vote is literally what they *do* " .....yeah, pretty much. I totally missed this but Katy Tur will be the best mom on the planet, she has the kindest face and literally kept me sane thru election season by being calm and reassuring while I was bouncing off the walls with insomnia. Well, her and Ayman and Ali Velshi! But mostly Katy... best wishes to baby Tur!!! eta: just to clarify, I wasn't laughing at voter suppression, just Errin's deadpan exasperated reaction
  19. So who's president again? I think his name starts with a...B...buuut I'm not sure. It's never gonna end, is it? We'll never get even a 10-day break from his name and his face...to breathe again? like being stalked by your ex every time you turn on the tee-vee ETA: oh ok it got better. I do understand the post-mortem is important, buuut it was just so draining first thing... can we not laugh a little, can we not breathe a little before we are exposed to that fuckery every.single.day. even tho it's supposed to be over now, they keep promising it's over...
  20. nah Kasie is the Luke Skywalker of MSNBC!! But seriously i feel that sense of betrayal through the tee-vee...ooof. it adds another dimension to how fucked up the whole situation is.
  21. i find this new system strange where the beginning of the show is all Joe ranting alone, then he totally disappears in the second half and it's only Mika and Willie...? YMMV but the three of them just talking bouncing off each other is so much better than weirdly dividing it... i wonder why they're doing it like that, maybe it's a childcare thing.. watching Claire, Joe and Kasie I really get the sense that they feel genuine betrayal, I think maybe because they have sort of interacted on a personal level with these senators? and so they actually believed this time it would be different...I mean just watching from a distance the...way it's playing out is maybe not so surprising... sigh.
  22. ouch ouch ouch my head!! I mean I agree but can't he speak forcefully without scaring the shit out of us gaaaah ETA: like Kasie is doing so beautifully right now EtA 2: and Claire!!! yes!!
  23. did y'all catch Mika to Joe, under her breath: "but you have *no* bone structure" bless his heart. I'm fine with them trolling Hawley tbh, he deserves it. Joe was bouncing off the walls but man, it's soo much better than Cicero-Joe
  24. What a relief to watch Dr B Mini Me and McFaul have an educated in-depth discussion about Russia without anyone having to comment on some crazy-ass tweet calling Navalny's wife ugly or praising the people who arrested him...it's like there's breathing space on the show for coherent thoughts again...
  25. They know their audience!! I wanna second Joe's recommendation of "Pretend it's a city" on netflix, with Fran Leibowitz, although a warning, it will make you crazy nostalgic for pre-pandemic NYC *cries*
