    I just don't get the choices they are making at all.

    • Burst DC fandom's balloon two months after Cavill's surprise return generated enormous amounts of excitement and goodwill.
    • Imply a line-wide reboot as you're beginning the marketing for two now-irrelevant movies in the pipeline for next year, one of which is a sequel to a movie that got audiences to pay over a billion dollars to see frickin' Aquaman.
    • Lead actors who were almost universally loved and did near-perfect jobs embodying their iconic characters (despite the questionable quality of the last couple of films they appeared in) while behaving professionally are disposable, while actors who range from problematic to leading candidate to be the next David Koresh are irreplaceable and their projects are being released with them still spotlighted no matter what.

    I'm done. Henry Cavill verified he's out as Superman today, and with Patty Jenkins also gone it's exceedingly unlikely that Gal Gadot will return as Wonder Woman in the near future. I won't feel a twinge of regret over missing out on anyone or anything else remaining in the DCEU stable at this point.

    Am I the prude or is this young girl sexualized to the point of looking like a twelve-year-old whore?  Why is a commercial like this okay in a world so informed about child pornography, sexual abuse and sexual harrassment?

    Looking at it, the one thing I really cast a side-eye at is the girls' outfits being two-piece short enough to expose their midriffs. Otherwise I don't think they're too brief for kids doing something active like dance routines, and the makeup looks fine to me.

    Bros (2022)

    I honestly think even if they'd done everything right, releasing a gay rom-com with leads who aren't major movie stars into the current post-Covid environment would have been extremely lucky to equal Love, Simon's box office. Which made that movie a modest hit, but might have broken even at best with the Bros budget and marketing blitz.

    It's not so much upset as disappointed that the US marketing revolved around an aspect of the film that's nice but just not important to about 90% of the moviegoing public. I don't think I saw many people get upset until Billy melted down on Twitter after the opening weekend box-office numbers came in and articles started commenting on it.

    I thought it was good, but it didn't convince me it was actual beef. Since I have no objections to eating the latter, I'll leave Impossible meat to the vegetarians and just eat vegetables prepared the regular way.

    Back in my mid 20s a local restaurant had a veggie burger that was even better than their (also really good) hamburgers, though it clearly did not involve meat. I heard through the grapevine that they used Morningstar Farms patties, but they must have done something fairly significant in their kitchen to improve them over the supermarket variety.

    I bought the blu-ray, and am now disappointed that we didn't get to see the deleted Pride Fight scene in the theater. It was hilarious, packed to the brim with funny moments, and would have been a highlight if it hadn't been cut. What, they had to cut a third of the movie's jokes out to make room for Billy repeating the last sentence everyone else said to him in a whiny, mocking tone?

    (Also disappointed that the Aaron full frontal clip from the pre-Christmas party dating montage that Nick Stoller mentioned wasn't included among the deleted scenes, but I can at least understand the rationale for that decision even if I disagree with it...)

    Agreed. It's my favorite movie of the year by a wide margin.

    Edit: And George Miller's Three Thousand Years of Longing is my next favorite, so it's not as if I'm just rating it above superhero movies and raunchy comedies.

    The Marvel Cinematic Universe: The Avengers, etc.

    Counterpoint: I myself am an old school comics nerd from the mid 70s onward, and I'm largely happy with the way Marvel is adapting stories for the MCU. While I haven't been as thrilled with the quality in Phase 4 aside from No Way Home, some of that is natural in the wake of an epic multi-year story reaching its conclusion, and some is a matter of the projects branching out to suit a variety of tastes. If Thor: Love and Thunder and Ms. Marvel are targeted at people with sensibilities different from mine, well, it's not an outrage that not everything is aimed at me.

    I believe the idea is that we're set in our ways and brand-loyal, so advertising is ineffective on us. Not so, while it's not terribly likely that a commercial will make me switch brands because I like it so much, it's still VERY possible for one to be annoying enough that I resolve never to use the product. Looking at you, Uber Eats and Carvana!

    Ever since Bros (briefly) hit theaters I've been on a Luke Macfarlane Hallmark Christmas movie kick. Some—like Chateau Christmas—have been good, some—like Sense, Sensibility, & Snowmen—have not. The latest, A Magical Christmas Village, was all right in terms of acting and dialogue but the premise could easily have been a horror movie or Twilight Zone episode instead (young girl plays with supernatural holiday trinkets that strip her mother and others of their free will and control their actions and circumstances Voodoo fetish-style, turning them into living puppets!).

    Tonight I watched Maggie's Christmas Miracle and the quality of the script and acting seemed really top notch for this sort of movie. It wasn't treacly or saccharine, characters experienced sadness and had believable motivations, and the romance, though rushed, felt like real adults interacting rather than a checklist of tropes.
