Convicted pedophile Gary Glitter released from prison after serving half his sentence. Apparently that's standard in the UK. He will be on probation, is already on their sex offenders registry and have a GPS monitor. I predict he will violate his parole and be back in jail in less than a year.

He's not going to have a good time of it in public.  Hasn't his name become Cockney rhyming slang for a toilet?

I'm thinking Jorge is getting a winner's edit. We've heard a lot about his family, and he seems to perform well in almost all the challenges. I don't recall hearing as much about the other contestants' backstories as much as Jorge's. I wouldn't place any money on it, but right now, he's my frontrunner.

You say that, but I said the same thing about Angel in Season 2.

The Lost pilot was extremely cinematic and very well done, certainly pulled me into the show immediately.

I'm the exact opposite.  With all the pre-series promos and hype, I was kind of excited and set my DVR to catch the pilot.  Then when I started to watch it, I couldn't get past the first 5 minutes of it.  I deleted the recording and never watched the series.

If Sergio hadn't dropped his first box, I'm guessing he would have won the OT challenge.

    I disagree.

Jake won that OT because he was able to fill each box with a single scoop of squid, as opposed to Sergio needing at least 2.  And it looked to be the same with the ice.  That's how Jake pulled ahead in the long run.

It may have been a closer finish without the spill happening, but Jake probably still would have won by a couple boxes.

  5. More news coming out of the Ranger-sphere:

First, a short BTS video about the 30th anniversary special, with Karan also clearly having the SPA badge, and a suit I don't think anyone expected to see.  But lots of love between the cast members.

Second, for the upcoming Cosmic Fury, the cast showed off their new suits.  The suits are totally original, except for the helmets which are still based on the Ryusolger/Dino Fury design.  However there is one major change...

    CSn5Hvp.jpg

Hunter Deno is now the first official female Red Ranger!  A first for both Power Rangers and Sentai.  (Barring the older sisters for the Reds in Shinkenger and Samurai, the color swaps in ToQger, and the all-Red changes in Gokaiger.  But those don't necessarily count as they either weren't full time cast members, or suit swaps as part of the season gimmick.)

And speaking of Sentai: it took 44 episodes (of 50), but the team in DonBrothers was finally made aware of both of everyone's identities and the team finally had a full team morph sequence.  Still no roll call though.

However, the way the reveal happened was part a battle between the civilian identities of the Black and Pink.  They've been in a weird season long love triangle.  Pink (who has almost as many red flags as a Chinese parade) is married to a woman who is actually a "evil" copy of Black's fiancee.  And Black was told killing the copy would release the real one.  So Black wounded the copy, she told Pink that Black's civilian identity attacked her, then Pink went after Black.  And in the middle of the fight, they both transformed and shot at each other.  Then the MoTW showed up and knocked both of them out of their Ranger forms, the rest of the team showed up, and then the full team transformation (finally) happened.  But most of them didn't really notice what had happened until long after the fight was over and they split up as they normally do.

Team's still not together per se, because of the animosity Pink has towards Black.  Which in episode 45 led to Pink turning into the MoTW...for the 3rd or 4th time.  But this time, the antagonist team (or rather, their superiors, as the main antagonist team is less antagonistic towards the DonBrothers by this point) got to him first and imprisoned him in the alternate dimension.  Which means they can't form the giant robo.   For a series that has been chaotic from the jump, it's getting even crazier near the end.

Also in Sentai news, the next season has been announced. Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger (King Sentai King-King-ger.)  As the translation of the name suggests, the Rangers are all royalty, as in monarchs of individual kingdoms.  But the theme is also insects, so each one is based on different insect.  Red is the Stag beetle, Blue a Dragonfly, Yellow a Preying Mantis, Black a Bee, and Violet (a first time color for a core team member) is a Butterfly.  The cast hasn't yet been introduced, so there's been some questions surrounding Violet.  Yellow has been noted to be female (the queen of her country), and Red, Blue and Black are male (all kings) but they've avoided gendered terms for Violet.  There's been rumors that the actor or character might be non-binary, which would be another first.

Their giant robo made a pre-season appearance in DonBrothers episode 45.  Like I said, the DonBros team couldn't form their robo, because one of the members was the MoTW.  But through plot contrivance, the next robo showed up to save the day, then disappeared back into pre-production land.  After that was when Pink DonBro got imprisoned.

Alternate Timelines always being worse than the original one- Again, I know there are exceptions, but more often than not, if you have characters who go back in time, change something there and then try to go back to their original spot in their own time, they'll find the "changed" timeline results in a world and a universe they don't like,

Married With Children had an alternate take on this trope, combining it with a pastiche of "It's a Wonderful Life", with Sam Kinison as Al's Clarence.  The alternate timeline without Al was much better for the rest of the family: Kelly was allowed to be intelligent, Bud was popular, Peg could cook, etc.  (Bonus point: the patriarch of the family, Mr. Gebrundy, was played by future cast member Ted McGinley).

Sam thinks he's failed in his mission, but Al declares he wants to go back...to spite his family.

  7. Speaking of both the mechanic, Larron, and the opening credits, I noticed that he was the only one that didn't plaster on a cheesy (or possibly genuine...I'll given a couple of people like the apprentice carpenter lady that) smile during the sequence.  Everyone else smiled; he didn't.  I'm wondering if that's a clue that he goes pretty far.

I don't get Decades but I'd like to watch the Blondie show and movies.  Blondie movies used to be a staple of local TV's movie blocks, but very rarely show up today. You can forget about Gunsmoke though.

There's a channel called Movies! that shows lots of classic films from the early Hays Code era.  It's how I saw many of the Thin Man movies (and thus finally truly understood the basis of part of the Thrilling Adventure Hour...).

And coincidentally, this morning they aired one of the Blondie movies.  Looks like they have one scheduled for next Saturday morning as well.

  10. Resurrecting this thread because of this op-ed piece:

    https://screenrant.com/why-final-six-vote-most-crucial-survivor/

TL;DR:  The F6TC is the most crucial in this era of Survivor, because it's the last chance to make a Big Move for your resume without too much risk of being voted off, since the HII is good until F5 and the F4 is firemaking.

The article cites Maryanne's use of her extra vote to eliminate Omar, and Jesse using the idol Cody gave him to both eliminate Cody and get Karla to burn her idol.  Both happened at their respective F6s.

I'm not sure what to think about this.  The sample size seems too small, and only one of the moves cited was done by the eventual winner.  So...maybe?

What says the rest of the Primetimer Survivor hivemind?

It was probably a cooling spray/muscle relaxant of some kind.  I'm pretty sure they have the same thing for professional athletes, but this would probably been an OTC variety.

  12. As one who respects both their games, it is pretty funny.   Lots of other contestants are "choosing sides" (with Tyson on Team Parv...which is odd considering his elimination in HvV), Jerri  saying she's got the real tea but she wants to see how this plays out between the queens before she spills, and all sorts of other nonsense.

Myself and a few others suspect that this isn't a real feud, but either just the two of them joking around during the off-season and the rest playing along, or it's a potential set-up to another RI-style season, with Sandra and Parvati instead of BRob/troll or Benji/Ozzy.

  13. A few other Genius-related shows that I've recently found out about...mainly through one group of subbers.  (Links to all these shows available at that link.

    First: Bloody Game/Game of Blood.

This one sounds the most like the Genius in that it's a survival game where the contestants, including Genius All-Star Doctor Yeonseung, do battle in mental and social games in order to win the prize money, but how you win is up to you.  (Beautiful Defeats and Ugly Victories, anyone?) What makes this one different is there's a cast of commentators watching the players.  And those commentators include Sangmin and Dongmin! (and Jiyoon and Yena from the Girls High School Mystery Club series).   The band Idiotape is also involved in this production, so this will at least sound like the Genius, if nothing else.

Haven't watched any yet, but I'll be checking it out.

    Second: Black Sheep Game

A 4-episode Mafia-esque game with only 8 contestants, including Titty God Kyunghoon.  Divided into 6 White Sheep and 2 Black Sheep by 7 "keywords" relating to their lives and experiences, the contestants play games and complete missions to learn the truth.  The White Sheep need to find the "Black Sheep code" to determine who the Blacks are to eliminate them.  Winning team takes the prize money of 1 million won.

Also haven't seen this, but since it's so short, it's probably a decent weekend binge.

    Next: Accomplice

Created by the SK Youtuber Quadurup, and based on the mobile app Mafia42.  But there are also a few similarities to the Mole.

The cast is made up of people from all walks of life in SK (although most are in entertainment in some fashion (game streamers, fashion/beauty vloggers, MMA, etc.)) gathered at a private and secluded location.    After all arriving, one is secretly selected to be the Mafia, while the rest remain Citizens.  During the nights, while all the cast are locked in their private rooms, the Mafia selects one to get "killed".  During the day, the cast investigate the "murder", question each other, and try to determine who the Mafia member is, in order to vote them out.  The Mafia can occasionally recruit additional members, changing the balance of citizens and Mafia.  Additionally, after the first Night, the citizens get a chance to solve a question or riddle in order to gain a power that can possibly give them an advantage, like being able to find out the alignment of a limited number of other players, or being able to protect someone from the killer.

The game ends if the Citizens eliminate all the Mafia.  Mafia wins if at least one is a member of the final 2 players.  And the winning team gets the cash prize of 100 million won (around $75K)

Available on YouTube, there's one completed season, and a second currently airing.  Hyunmin is a cast member in season 1, and Yohwan is part of Season 2.  I've only watched Episode One and Two of the first season thus far (and part of the 3rd to understand more about the challenge to gain the game power), but it looks pretty good.   And since they are on YouTube, there's English captions available (except on the preview materials and the most current episode of the second season, which went up within the last 48 hours... those captions will be added in time.)  Episodes are around 30 minutes each, so it could also be an easy binge.

    Finally, Treasure Hunt.

A cast of 24 (including Hyunmin and the Accomplice creator Quadurup) have been gathered by a masked man.  They are made into "teams" and sent out to find clues to treasure caches hidden in South Korea, totaling up to 500 million won (around half a million US).  "Finders Keepers" is the rule, even amongst a team (presumably), so it's winner take what they get their hands on.  A little Squid Game inspired, coupled with escape room puzzles and locations to lead to the treasure sites.

I've only seen the first episode, but this does look like a good production.  There's definitely a budget behind this one.

  14. Just recently found out about this: a sort-of Mole-esque show from a South Korean YouTuber.

It's called Accomplice, and is actually based on the mobile game Mafia42.  But there are a few similarities to the Mole; enough that I think the audience here might like it.

Ryan just seemed like a surprising choice since it was Noelle that was the face of inspiration this season.

I read somewhere on Reddit that Noelle suggested to Sia that Ryan should get the "prize" and not her.  So Noelle may have been Sia's first choice, but she turned it down.

And that makes sense for a couple reasons.  Ryan's apparently a blue-collar guy, so he could use the money more than a (semi-?)pro athlete like Noelle.  Plus Noelle might lose sponsorship deals if she accepted a donation like Sia's.

The Addams Family-how it only got 2 seasons I don't know. It's such a great show.

While it may have had a short run, it is still a cultural touchstone that lasted long after.

First, there was an appearance of the entire family on an episode of the New Scooby Doo movies, which was a sort of backdoor pilot for a short-lived animated series.  The series is notable for Jodie Foster providing the voice of Pugsley.

Apparently there was a Halloween-themed made-for-tv movie in the mid 70s that reunited most of the original live action cast.  (The original actress for Grandmama was too ill and was recast.  She passed a few months later.)

Then, of course, there were the two movies in the '90s, with Raul Julia, Anjelica Huston, Christopher Lloyd, and Christina Ricci.  But in between them, there was another animated series.  This one was also made by Hanna-Barberra (as the first one was), and featured John Astin voicing Gomez.

Later, in 1998, there was a direct-to-video movie with Tim Curry as Gomez (whom critics have said is the only good part of said movie) and Daryl Hannah as Morticia (as Anjelica Huston declined to reappear out of respect for Raul Julia...as did Christopher Lloyd), which was a lead in to a "revival" series produced in part by Saban Entertainment.  This series, which had no cast in common with the preceding movie other than the girl who played Wednesday,  introduced a new character, Grandpapa Addams.  This was a guest starring role for Astin, and was basically him doing Gomez again.

After that in 2009 was the Broadway musical, which originally featured Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth as Gomez and Morticia.

There were also the two animated movies from a couple years ago, with voices from Oscar Issac, Charlize Theron, Bette Midler and Snoop Dogg.

Which leads to the current Netflix hit, Wednesday.  Featuring Jenna Ortega in the titular role, and features Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzman as Morticia and Gomez.  There's only the one season (of 8 hour-long episodes) thus far, but there's hope for a second.

The individual pieces of the Addams Family franchise might have short lives.  But like several members of the family, the franchise has never truly died.

I don't know about Reddit, but I'm sure a lot of the people here who are referring to "Jesse playing Cody's idol" know perfectly well that it was Jesse's to play. They're just calling it "Cody's idol" as a way to distinguish which one of Jesse's idols he played, or to point out the fun irony of Jesse using the idol that Cody assembled and gave to him against him. The context of their comments where they are praising him and saying it was a great play show that they know it was Jesse's idol, not Cody's. So to say "everyone" is "100% incorrect" when they say that is playing semantics in my opinion and a bit of an overreach.

Fair points.  I may have been a bit hyperbolic in my assessment about folks here.  Apologies to anyone I accidentally offended.

All we saw was footage of Dwight giving it to Jesse in a flashback with Jesse's voiceover explaining that "Dwight got spooked and gave me his idol to hold" or something to that effect. So it seems like it was Dwight's idea, but we don't really know for sure. Not sure what Dwight might have said about it in interviews.

Dwight didn't say anything about it in interviews.  He kept up the fiction TPTB were promoting that week that he was voted out with that idol.  It was the next episode that revealed that he'd given Jesse the idol Jeanine assembled, and afterwards the interview cycle had moved off of him and onto her.

Thank you for explaining that. I thought he wouod play it on hinself but now i get it. Is there a chance that the idol isnt valid since dwight gave it to him, not jeanine?

When it comes to idols, when they are willingly given from one person to another, the ownership of the idol also changes hands.

That's why everyone in this thread (and on Reddit, where I've also seen this) that has said "Jesse played Cody's idol" or some variant is 100% incorrect.  Jesse did not play Cody's idol; Jesse played one of HIS two idols, specifically the red one from Vesi tribe.  Yes, Cody may have found the original advantage at Vesi and assembled said idol.  But the moment that he gave it (back) to Jesse, it became Jesse's idol.  And Jesse could play it or not as he so desired.

The same goes with the yellow idol from Baka.  Jeanine may have claimed the advantage and assembled that idol.  But then she gave it to Dwight.  Then later, because it was his property to do with what he wanted, Dwight gave his idol to Jesse.

So Jesse has legally had TWO valid idols ever since the merge.  Until he gave the one to Cody to show to Karla.  And in the TH where Jesse talked about that, the chyron in the lower third that has read "TWO IMMUNITY IDOLS" since the reveal changed as the "TWO" faded away.  (The space still remained though.  Kudos to the editors for that whole sequence.  One more example of the brilliant and funny work they do with the chyrons.)

And now Jesse just has one idol...and it's both the only one left in the game, and the one that everyone else thinks was the first out of the game.  So no-one will see it coming if/when he plays it.

    8 hours ago, LadyChatts said:

The only real rule I've seen for idol possession is whoever finds the idol first gets to keep it, and no one can steal the idol.

There is one other rule.  If you find an idol and hide it somewhere, then someone else finds it in the spot you hid it in, they cannot claim it.  TPTB will tell them to put it back because it belongs to someone else, without naming names.
