That occurred to me as well - I wonder if there was a way to tell forensically if the hole was already there before he went through. If he went through a metal roof, he would have had to have been dropped from a great height to penetrate it. That scenario makes me wonder if he could have been dropped from a helicopter, but that's kind of a nonsensical theory, and he probably would have sustained much more physical damage. I bet the hole was already there.

I went for a walk and thought about it some more (can you tell Covid has made me seriously bored) and Rey's injuries aren't really consistent with a fall from great height. I suspect that's why the ME ruled the way he did. Usually when you jump or are thrown of a building you land head first because that's the heaviest part of the body. There usually isn't much left of the skull but the cop only mentioned a fracture to the back of the skull not the front like you would expect. Also the way he broke both his legs with bones exposed would make more sense if he landed on his feet which wouldn't make sense if he came off The Belvedere. I think he was running away from someone and jumped off the parking deck to get away in a panic and broke both his legs. Whoever was chasing him caught up to him inflicted his other injuries found the hole and shoved him through it. Sadly since his money clip was never found it might be he just got jumped for his cash and it went really badly wrong.

  2. With Rey Rivera I wonder if the answer is that the hole in the roof was already there and they beat Rey to death and just shoved him through the hole to cover up what happened. The room he landed in was no longer used the hole could have been caused by rain and decay and been there for weeks. It would explain why his stuff was just scattered about. I wonder if there would have been a way to tell the difference forensically.

Edited to add: Did it seem like to anyone else that the property manager wanted to say more than he did? Like he saw something or realized something but didn't connect it until later or even until he heard from the show.

You are assuming Earthers are willing to mine. It's safe to assume the valuable minerals found on Earth have already been depleted, thus the need to start mining the asteroids. I think any Earther on the dole who had any desire to work hard already became a belter, generations ago. My point is, it's not enough that there are minerals to be pulled from the rock, you have to be willing to PULL them, and it's still hard work. So the belters would still have a leg up on Earth and Mars.

People are people, while some are lazy or not suited to modern workplaces, most studies have shown people on assistance will take work if they can get it.  Earthers will mine if they get the opportunity. The Belt will probably have an edge in terms of knowhow but Earth can catch up. A big part of any colonization is farming and Earth has a leg up there. Considering the shit hole Amos indicates most of Earth is most people will be clamoring to leave. Also they show some of it here with Naomi but a lot of Belters cannot live in 1G so not all of them will be able to just settle into a colony.

Will seems to have what some children have..selective hearing..hear what they want to hear is all, and ignore what they don't want to hear.

It could also be he is somewhat tone deaf. Its not usually tested for and it can make it hard for kids to understand when mom is using her right now voice versus just casually calling them back. My sister has a similar issue and it drove my mom(especially since my mom is Cree and uses tones more than most English speakers) nuts when we were kids until we figured it out. We realized when she started to really try to sing as she got older and she didn't even realize when she was off key. Will reminds me of my sister sometimes when he doesn't acknowledge hos parents. It might have played a role in Will's language development too since Mandarin is so tonal.

I know that Patrick Stewart said that one of the reasons he used a classy British accent to play the very French Picard was because he said his French accent sounded silly, but I had no clue how right he was!

Very interesting mix of camp and some intense darkness, especially connected to our old pal, Seven of Nine! Despite having never been on screen together, Seven and Picard had great on screen chemistry, so much that I was sad to see her go after just one episode, as I hoped she would stick around for a longer arc. Hope to see her again, I feel like they have a lot more to talk about, with the mutual history with the Borg. I really want to know what happened with Seven in-between now and the end of Voyager and if we will check in with anyone else. What happened between Seven and Chakotay? Are Tom and Torres still together? Did Harry Kim ever move up from being an ensign? Did Neelix ever get arrested for a mass food poisoning incident? inquiring minds want to know! Poor Icheb, what a said ending for his character. That really was nasty as fuck, I had to turn away when they were yanking his eye out. I know that Trek has had violence before, but damn guys! I get why Seven wanted revenge, and why Picard wanted Seven not to kill her, but...there had to be some other option beyond killing and leaving her alone to be evil and torture and kill more people.

I wonder if some of the anger Raffi's son feels for his mom is because so many of her conspiracy's involve Romulans being behind stuff is that he has a Romulan wife and feels like the "BUT ROMULANS!" attitude would make her life harder? Obviously thats not what started their estrangement, but it probably didnt make him any more excited to welcome her back into his life again.

That and the fact the Eureopeans French peopleoften learn to speak English from the British, so they speak English with a Brtish Accent.

I also suspect in Stewart's case part of his issue with a French accent is that his usual posh Brit is actually faked. Stewart grew up in rural Yorkshire speaking full Yorkshire dialect, he deliberately adopted his current more neutral British accent in drama school. I imagine adding another layer of accent to that would be difficult.

Its partly just this story reminding me of him but is Rios reminding anyone else of Tom Paris? Some of it is just that they are cut from the same pile of rogueish pilot tropes but there also seems to be a certain similar layering going on there.

I'm pretty sure he's been covering it with a bandage all season so far and yea, I just assumed it was so no one would notice it'd been healed.

I think its also due to the hand injury being something the actor had as a childhood injury that was written into the script. So either Vlamis was able to have his injury repaired over the break and they're hiding a bandage or a brace or their hiding that the actors hand is still messed up.

  7. Am I the only one who noticed that both Alien women look a hell of a lot like Cameron? So much so I actually thought it was her for a second and was like woah. I think the whole spiel about Roswell feeling like home was a hint and Cameron was actually seeking out Max and her ancestors. I think Cameron might actually be the new Tess. Of course it could just be the casting director has a type but Cameron has always seemed to be hiding something.

Also when Michael asked what kind of monster Tripp was I was like the kind that fought in WW2. Not to excuse anything but WW2 vets had plenty of reasons to be fucked up. He could have been interned by the Japanese or been part of the march to Berlin (which was just brutally awful some of the "soldiers" Germany sent out were actually Hitler Youth and weren't even 12 years old). Its entirely possible Michael's mother isn't the first mother Tripp had taken aim at. It's still something of a taboo showing WW2 vets as anything but noble stoic warriors it would be interesting if the show portrayed Tripp as someone who was broken and struggling after the war.

In very first shuttle landing scene of the season, even before the crash, Murtry came across as someone who embodied the worst traditions of British colonial “superiority”—and he did not disappoint. Kudos on creating an unrepentant, single-minded asshole.

Yeah that was probably deliberate. A lot Canadians are very cynical about British colonialism considering we are a direct product of it. It probably because a lot of us wound up here because colonialism screwed things up so much worse where we came from. The Clearances in Scotland, The Famine in Ireland, Opium in China all the way up to Partition in India. Even most of English immigrants to Canada were from the lower classes and were exploited by the English system. So yeah Murtry being a posh dick was probably a deliberate choice by the Canadian casting director. I do wonder what the actor thought about it.

Thank you - I feel like I'm losing my mind watching this with Shy and his crew just roaming the hotel. I just don't know how this show can act like this was normal during that era because it absolutely was not. Just read anything about how Sammy Davis Jr. was treated. Ditto the situation with Joel and Mai. I don't see his parents accepting her.  Archie seemed cool when they were dancing, but I doubt Imogene would accept her into their social circle. It's totally unbelievable.

Why is this show just ignoring the segregation and overt racism that was out there during this era? I wish the show would address it - it would be interesting to see Midge having to navigate touring with them and seeing how they are treated.

Vegas was largely integrated by 1960 mostly due to the efforts of Sammy Davis, Sinatra and the rest of the Rat Pack. It was actually a plot point on DS9.

Am I remembering wrong, or was there a whole "Naomi is a hostage" plot in CB they've just abandoned here? if so, i don't disagree with it especially since it plays such a big role in the next one.

I like this season a lot more than the book. I do wonder if they intend to wrap the series after NG, or if they're going to age everyone 30 years to set up the Laconians. If they do want the Laconians, then I hope they age everyone, because making them happen quicker than 30 or so years stretches plausibility to an extreme. And I think Laconia is a necessary way of dealing with Mars and the abandonment of terraforming it -- you had an entire culture with society-first goals, and then it's not important anymore. However, i don't like that someone other than Avasaralla is pointing it out, because to me it was her big-picture nature is what made her so great.

They could write around the time issues with Laconia pretty easily. Considering the way the ring gates are manipulating space it wouldn't be shocking for them to be shifting time as a side affect. Say going through the gate throws you back 20 years.  It might even explain why Duarte chose that planet in particular. So he would have more time compared to the rest of the universe.

He was the white guy, that's why. People should stop acting surprised by this.

Ben Solo being the son of Han and Leia and one of the strongest ties to the original trio probably had a lot to do with people investing in the character too though. It felt like a waste to me because I wanted to see him interact with Chewie again and walk back on to the Falcon. I think the question of what the rebels would do with him and how he would redeem himself were interesting questions and Abrams copped out by killing him off rather than answer those questions. While the character undoubtedly benefited from his privilege there was definitely an indication that he was manipulated by Snoke from a very young age not unlike former Storm troopers like Finn. Plus Adam Driver gave a very solid performance that was designed to make you sympathize with the character. I think its dismissive to say that people only like the character due to his race. You may not like the character but I think the reasons many people do are valid.

Sometimes, people aren't rational, no matter how smart they are. I'm someone who has never gone to therapy and definitely should be for my own anxiety. But, for various reasons, I just haven't. Again, it's not rational, even though I am aware that I should be. So, I can totally buy Randall being in denial and not going to therapy because he thinks that he's fine, or that he has it under control, or that his current methods are working. WE know they aren't, but he doesn't.

Darnell even recognized that he should try therapy but it's completely in character for Randall to brush it aside. Look at what happened the last time he went to therapy. It was the family therapy session and he basically brushed it aside as a joke.

But, then again, nobody in the Pearson family has even been open to therapy, let alone tried it more than once willingly. Kevin has made strides because he's actively gone to get himself help, not just through therapy (yes, it was court mandated, but he still seemed to use it to his benefit) but also through support groups. Yes, it took Kevin a while, and he was just as reluctant about therapy and asking for help as any of the other Pearsons, but he's finally comfortable enough to admit when he needs help. His issue is that he didn't keep up with therapy. But because of the way he was raised, because both Rebecca and Jack didn't seem to be open to any kind of therapy, that kind of mindset is hard to break. Jack dealt with his alcoholism on his own, which wasn't exactly a healthy way to go about it, but it worked for him. But it doesn't work for everyone.

So, for someone like Randall, he has tried to do it on his own and although it's worked out so far, in the sense that he's able to pick himself back up for a little while, it's just a cycle that continues to happen. He just can't see that because he thinks he's fine. It's clear that, at this point, something drastic needs to happen in order for him to admit that he needs help. I just am not sure what that would be.

I want to see all of the Pearsons in weekly therapy. They all need it desperately.

Honestly the therapy anvils are one of the things that bothered me about the episode. Especially since they seemed to being trying to say something about black men and therapy.  The problem I had is that the show seemed to be saying that black men are the problem and talk therapy is a cure all which isn't true and is actually rather patronising. The truth is therapy come in many forms and traditional talk therapy was mostly designed by white people for other white people. Its not a magic cure all and not everyone does well in a traditional setting. Aboriginal men have a lot of the same issues as black men and its been found they do better in group therapy or other less self focused more behavioural therapy. Not wanting to spend an hour talking about yourself isn't really a mental illness so much as a mental difference and it would have better if the show acknowledged that. As it stands it feels a little like the show is saying Randall should be more white. Which could be clumsy writing but if Randall is magically cured I'm calling bullshit.

I actually think Randall might get more out of group therapy and he definitely needs meds to help in the short term. Its an insidious idea that what works widely for white works for everyone and even a deadly one in the case of black maternal health. Therapy as a cure is dangerous in general too because so many people "fail" therapy and then despair because they don't know what else to do. I really wish the show would get into alternative therapies at least a bit because that really needs awareness. The closest they have come so far is Kate's drum session.

About Pedro Pascal/Mando's face being revealed... The reactions to Mando/Pedro's face being shown have been interesting.

Throughout this first season I have been watching multiple YouTube reaction and review videos for each episode, both before and after I subscribed to Disney+ and began watching the series myself.

A couple of people have said that they were disappointed that Mando's face was shown at all, especially this early in the series -- which is a fair point, and I can understand why people would feel that way.

But... a couple of people were disappointed with Pedro's looks in general.  One guy said that Pedro "looks like us" (I guess he meant the average Joe) and is "slightly overweight."  And then a woman (who was totally unfamiliar with Pedro before this show) said that she was disappointed because he was "chunkier" than she had imagined, and that Pedro "looked like the dad next door."  She said she expected him to be "chiseled."  Her husband said that she thought Pedro had a "dad bod" -- somehow she decided all of this from the one and only scene with a close-up of Mando's (bloody) face.

Am I missing something?  Did Pedro look "chunky" and "slightly overweight" and like the "dad next door" in the scene where his face was shown?  Maybe he is not some people's cup of tea as far as being attractive, but I wasn't thinking that he looked chunky or like the dad next door.  I doubt that was supposed to be Mando's finest moment anyway.  He thought he was dying and was probably in pain, after all.  I know there are a whole lot of women and men who would not mind getting to know that "dad next door" at all!

Yeah its sad but I wonder how much of that is code for "not white". Something I noticed when people were critical about Adam Driver being cast as Ben Solo is that people are still strangely attached to their heros being blonde, blue eyed and square jawed. (Which is extremely ironic since Driver is actually about as ethnic as apple pie and looks eerily like Eddie Fisher). A lot of the criticism seems to be around Pedro Pascal's ethnic features like the wider cheekbones. I think one of those cases of unconscious bias where people filled in Mando's face with someone based on cultural expectations. Where of course heroes don't usually look like Pedro Pascal.

Oh the hypocrisy. But since the show is about the failings of the medical system in the US Dr Prevish's lying under oath is probably just as big an issue as all the other crap the show focuses on. A lying doctor is a lying doctor. A vindictive doctor is a vindictive doctor.  A doctor that aids in a cover up is a doctor that aids in a cover up. No way to dress that up even in a buddy movie.

This isn't just about procedure or hippocratic oath one could argue Conrad assaulted the patient by purposely inflicting pain. This was the cover up of a crime.

It appears that Hank Voight and Vic Mackey have opened up a medical school.

I don't the show was trying to be hypocritical I think it was trying to show that Conrad is flawed and his self righteousness can be dangerous. Devon going along with it is a little tougher to swallow but I can fanwank he did it because he believes Conrad is a good doctor. I also think the show was trying to point out as it often does that blind faith in doctors is a problem in itself.

That's the thing though "everyone" doesn't dislike her. I have liked her since I know what you did last summer. There's a difference between a criticism and an attack btw. A criticism goes after the opinion an attack goes after the person. If you don't won't people to disagree with you maybe you should create a blog.

I didn't mind this episode, but it was one of the weaker ones for me overall. I am still all in on this show, though.

Dex basically fits the typical anti-hero from a cop/detective show, so the things that she does is stuff that I've mostly seen on other shows similar to this one. I've seen many shows where thr anti-hero sleeps around, even if he's not really appealing, so Dex taking on those traits isn't surprising to me.

Now, Dex sleeping with Liz wasn't something I ever predicted. That adds a layer to the tangled web that Dex weaves. So points for them adding a little originality to it? But yeah, no way does Dex get off clean with this. Miles should be upset that Dex slept with someone else while they're semi-exclusive, and I can't imagine Grey will be pleased that his girlfriend cheated

The stuff that they have done with the Native American characters have been respectful. I really, really like learning more about their way of life and the reservations and I think this show has done a great job with it. Sue Lynn is right that people tend to stereotype any Native Americans as the wise one.

The show loses major points with me for casting a half white half Cambodian person as Naomi . It's one of those things that an outsider wouldn't notice but I spotted in about a minute. She just didn't have the righteous anger  Native woman would have. (Never piss off a Native woman trust me). Her hair line, the way she moved, how she talked it was all off. She didn't even try with the accent every time she said Sue-lynn I rolled my eyes because she used an Asian inflection. This could be that the actress is shit but it could be the show didn't care. Having native people play native people is a big deal not just for the reasons above but because of historical lack of Hollywood giving a fuck. Personally between that and the Liz business the show is on the bubble for me watching it.

Something else that bugged was Dex being oblivious to how gossipy and petty life on the rez can be. If she dated the Chief's son she would have been the subject of gossip at the very least. Reservations are essentially insular small towns and have all the personal politics that come with that. Its part of the magical native stereotype that reserves are places where everyone gets along happily.

Also the dis enrolling drug dealers is a real thing my reserve does it. We call it a band council resolution here in Canada. Also only the federal government can remove native status up here though so you just get kicked out of your reserve you can still move another one if they'll have you.

I like that other PI, Carol. I was hoping she’d stick around. It’s good that Dex did the right thing, and I think she would’ve done so even without her talk with Carol. The brother who sold out his own sister is a total asshole, wow. Obviously the politician who wanted the info is too, but it takes a special kind of awful to do that to your own family.

I definitely feel like something is up with Liz, though I can’t say what. Her asking for a job at the bar was a little weird. She’s not wrong about Grey and Dex, though.

Another two week break? You’re gonna leave me hanging after that promo?

I feel like Dex's suggestion about her being "very happy" was meant to hint that she's manic. Which was actually quite subtly and well done actually. I just thought they were going overboard on the whole quirky girl thing until Dex said it. The rapidly changing jobs, sudden intense relationship and hobbies and wild back story all fit pretty well in with bi-polar or borderline personality disorder. I wonder if Dex picked up on it so quickly because one of her parents had manic episodes. It would certainly help explain why they named their daughter after an anti depressant. It also means Dex's reaction to her wasn't necessarily jealousy and more her spidey sense kicking in.

I thought this episode was well done, although I'm troubled about the situation with Bobby. Just looking at the research (thanks, Dr. Google), he could be in for a very hard time. If the writers wanted to create an illness, I'm not sure radiation is the way to go.  I am a die hard Bathenashipper, and have consistently been annoyed at how the writers portray their relationship. I get that they're older but geez, turn up the heat a little bit! LOL!!!  As an African American woman myself, Athena is a shero to me. I think that she feels things deeply but has had to shield those feelings for a variety of reasons-- her job, the death of Emmett, and of course her mother Beatrice! Yikes, she is scary.  Athena's breakdown in Bobby's arms at the end of episode 7 was powerful acting!- Cue the waterworks!

Was Athena mad at May? Hell yes! To those who want to bash her for her initial reaction-- give her a break.  No parent wants to be compared to the enemy. Rather, let's congratulate her for being willing to process Michael's comments and approach her daughter with grace. I love that she affirmed for May that she (Athena) was proud of her job, herself, and wished her daughter the same.

I thought the way that they semi-resolved the Hen situation was good. Bringing back the life coach was smart.  I read an interview of Aisha Hinds that stated that there will be residual that Hen will grapple with from time to time. How can she not?

Agree with the thought that the Tara situation is shady.  Something/someone definitely not right.

As for the "Buddie" romance storyline-- not a fan but then I'm not really a fan of Buck.  I find him immature and annoying. I am more partial to the character of Eddie and Christopher is utterly cherishable!

I can't wait for the fall finale, although it really will piss me off that we will have to wait to find a resolution to Bobby's exposure to radiation.

I wonder about his liver results. As recovering alcoholic and addict Bobby's not great results aren't shocking but it could be a symptom of a larger issue. I could see this show going for a transplant storyline. We would probably end watching Michael and Buck fight over who gets to be Bobby's living donor.

I had read almost nothing about the show before I started watching, just knew that it took place in the 80s and that a boy disappears, so everything was a surprise and I remained mostly unspoiled, except for hearing that the ending of Season 3 was sad which of course had me speculating about who dies. Or, as it may turn out, who doesn't, aha!

I am usually not one for speculation, but maybe Hopper is in the Upside-Down and Brenner (Matthew Modine) is the American in the prison? Or Hopper is the prisoner and Brenner is working with the Russians?

    Can't wait to find out.

The thing about Brenner being "the American" is I don't think he is American at least not by birth even if he is naturalized. Based on his accent, El calling him Papa and the arm tattoo I suspect Brenner was born in Germany. In fact if he is roughly the right age to have been a Nazi (assuming he's in his late fifties or early sixties like Modine). He's too young to be Mengele but he had a few male assistants who were never caught and who knows how many guards. Not too mention there was all kinds of experiments on children as part of Action T4. Given the USSR's own history with the Nazis they wouldn't call him American. And Nazis would be first in line to be fed to Demogorgan.

Yeah for Shauna to be the mother of that kid would be one hell of a genetic fluke. Zoe would be one thing since we know she's half white but Shauna looks doesn't look like she has any white people in her at all. Although it occurs to me that the fiance in the flashforward isn't the mother of that particular kid. Its been pointed out that the timing doesn't quite add up. The fiancee might be a false start the show does like a misdirect. Although weirdly I think casting such a white looking kid might be deliberately  a way of getting people to think it can't be Zoe. The way the actress talked about her character "going on a journey" makes me think we aren't done with her yet anyway.

If your personal issues are so overwhelming you should take some time off to address them not endanger yourself and your patients.

Hen was an accident waiting to happen.

Based on both angles shown I think what what Hen was less distracted and more a type of reflex action. Hen flipped the switch and she looked to her left and saw the car in the first lane was stopping. She assumed the other cars coming in that direction would do the same and looked the other way. That's when then Lindsey ran the red light and slammed into the ambulance. It would have happened so quickly it wouldn't even necessarily been a conscious decision.  Its part of how our brains classify objects. We see one object and we assume the similar shaped objects will behave the same. So its possible Hen wasn't distracted and she just didn't register that Lindsey wasn't slowing down.

Its also possible since Lindsay was driving a small car and was fairly far back she was in a blind spot and Hen simply didn't see her. In the end Lindsey ran the red light and the car next to her was much closer and stopped in plenty of time. Either way I don't think Hen is at fault. At least not completely,  if Lindsey was paying attention the accident wouldn't have happened. I don't know if Hen could have stopped in time even if she had seen Lindsey.

I'm rooting for this too. My big fear is that they will instead make Bailey have an amnio, discover something is wrong with the baby and have her need to decide if she will keep the baby or have an abortion.  Let's face it, Shonda isn't afraid to kill a baby (See April and Jackson's first and Amelia's baby) for a story line. She also loves to be topical.

An interesting option (and a not unlikely one considering the characters age) would be Down Syndrome. Its not fatal and a much more morally grey area than what April and Jackson went through. The truth is Downs birth rates have dropped like a stone since Amino became standard. I don't think Bailey or Ben would make that choice but its hard to say. Especially since Tuck would eventually be the one caring for his sibling.

I'm in total agreement with the network.

That text to Ben was so over the top, Darlene must have been standing on a ladder to write it. That flowery bullshit is not who Darlene is, at least as they've shown us for decades.

Personally, I'm glad she got dumped by both men. She has always been my least favorite Conner -- she's just a toxic bitch to almost everyone, but especially to the man she supposedly "loved" since high school and with whom she had two children.

I love that David said he wanted to go first and then he dumped Darlene. I also take her tears with a grain of salt. She's upset only because she didn't get to dump him first (she even says something to the effect that she really wished she had gone first -- because she wanted to step on David one last time, the way she's done for 25 years).

I didn't care for the scene at the highway, because it was overtly comparing gentle David with manly Ben, with David coming up lacking, as though being a gentle man somehow makes him less of a man.

I also think her text to David being so basic doesn't necessarily mean she loves him less. Its just after 20 years they have a short hand. A more telling question would have been who did she tect first imo but that wouldn't have been as funny.

I also hate the"David is a weakling" jokes it just very reductive for a show that talks about gender as much as it does.
