  1. The Max double episode is one of my least favourite too. I'd rather skip it. But I like the bit when Dorothy gets thrown out of the Elvis club...
  2. In the episode where they are going to see Burt Reynolds and get arrested (again!) for prostitution, Blanche says she spent the night of the presidential inauguration of 1972 in the arms of the President of the Chamber of Commerce. Surely she was married to George 14 years prior?
  3. This has always intrigued me too. Even if her husband helped her, surely Dorothy would have gone to the hospital as well. Unless the husband was at the hospital (without Trudy) and he told Dorothy Trudy was dead and Dorothy had no chance to actually see her. But I don't really care for Trudy, and Dorothy is not practical jokes person, so the back story is a bit lame too. There's an episode where Sophia tries various jokes on Dorothy who isn't at all into playing along.
  4. They were trying so very hard to create a plausible reason for Rose to prepare Scandinavia's most popular appetiser, cheese and crackers... (traditional reunion snack? Except it was served before the reunion and before Trudy's death, so maybe it's a traditional pre-death snack).
  5. There are only 3 types of insults available: stupid, ugly and fat (and variations on these). Rose was called stupid, Dorothy ugly, so Blanche was left with being fat.
  6. Well thought. Shows a clear understanding of the subject matter.
  7. In the episode where Dorothy needs surgery but is scared of hospitals, Blanche confesses she has a fear of flying that she still isn't over. In the next episode she's flying with Richard the millionaires in his private jet without the slightest concern.
  8. Oh Kirsten was after the money alright. Credit to the actor for being so convincingly greedy. If she were concerned about Rose she wouldn't have changed her flights to leave early, coz there's no money... As for the families, there's another topic about them, and how ungrateful or nasty they usually were.
  9. But Kirsten was out of line. Rose wouldn't have been the first person to lose money on bad investments (or con men at the mall), which might be naivety (Rose is very naive) or even stupid, but not intentional or criminal. She could have put it all in Lehmans Bros Bank, never to see it again. And as she rightly said, money doesn't go as far anymore. How this makes Kirsten ashamed, and the one who gets the apology once the truth is out, revealing that Charlie was the financially useless one, is a mystery. To be angry with Rose for trying to protect Charlie's memory/reputation is also silly. I can't see any interpretation that lets Kirsten off the hook.
  10. I saw the episode where Kirsten complained about Rose's will, and when Rose tried to say she spent/lost the money Kirsten went into a real strop and said she was really ashamed of Rose. This whole thing ticks me off: 1st of all it's Rose's money, to use/spend for the duration of her life as needed, and is under no obligation to leave this or that to her kids. 2ndly when Rose explained, Kirsten forgave her. Kirsten should have been grovelling for forgiveness, feeling very *ashamed* herself. And another point that is irritating is that Kirsten really likes the other GG. In season 7 when Rose has heart problems and she's at the hospital she hates the girls. I guess she was really stressed then and didn't mean it.
  11. This is also one of my least favourites, because it makes no sense. They would have easily seen it was a double exposure. And I agree, it's not Blanche's fault either.
  12. The frozen heads when Rose has her heart attack and operation, and her annoying daughter Kirsten turns up. It's only a dream, but it doesn't do it for me.
  13. The same way the Greek sailors knew how to find the house. And the image consultant who turns up to hit on Dorothy after she "breaks up" with Blanche.
  14. Moonlight Madness Party - Dorothy quotes Shakespeare and Miles says they have so much in common and that he too quotes Shakespeare in regular conversations... And they kiss... But he's an accountant, who was "cleverly" made a college professor in witness protection... Also the thief who steals Blanche's jewels who's supposed to be British has a South African accent.
  15. In the last few years the GG has been remade in Hebrew for the Israeli Market. They seem to have based some eps on the original and some seem unrelated; I've only watched a few episodes but I saw the remake of The Break In where instead of hairspray/mace they have a cell phone/taser, and she tases herself at the police station. Needless to say there is nothing like the original.
  16. Blanche has been on Murder She Wrote and Law and Order (she possibly slept with JFK).
  17. The episode where Blanche is having a hot tub installed and the city inspector says she needs a permit and to make improvements to the house of at least $10000 so the girls can rent rooms. The house is large, each girl has a big room with maybe individual bathrooms, a lanai, garage, and kitchen table with 3 chairs. What improvements they'd need I can't see. Oh and they have a hot tub.
  18. As kids of the 80s we watch Murder, She Wrote and see how many actors in that have also been on the GG. in tonight's episode we have George Clooney and Blanche's sister Virginia.
  19. Look who's calling the vase ming (one of my favourites) Talking of vases, as a linguist, I find it interesting that in the Break In episode when Rose shoots Blanche's vase, Blanche calls it a 'vahz' (like in British English or is it US too?) while Sophia says 'vays' (rhymes with ways). Nothing to do with the GG, just a thought.
  20. I think this also relates to a point I made in the past about the lack of respect for mental health issues, a view that has changed since the 80s. Mental health is used as a joke matter in a way that no other disabilities/illnesses/non-conformity - issues such as being gay, hiv, old age, homelessness (the awful jacket episode), teen pregnancy, etc. are treated with much more respect. Sure there are jokes about their ages or Dorothy knocked up at 17, but those are to point out the opposite - they're not old, and a teen pregnancy doesn't have to ruin your life if you have support (if you can call Sophia support...).
  21. Or he was named Salvador despite being Sicilian, I guess his parents could have named him whatever they wanted even if not Italian.
