  1. The in-show promo that was voiced by a guy made a point to say multiple times that next week's shows would be live and that they would be covering hot topics as they happened. That would be pretty hard to do even if they had enough pre-taped shows to run throughout July and August.

I think it would also be a first.  This show has become notorious for it's Not Hot, more like Lukewarm Topics generally at least two days old but sometimes a week or more.  "As they happen" implies some sort of newsroom or crack staff instead Sweaty Geddie's wife's nephew hunkered down in the back perusing his Yahoo homepage.

That said, for me, live is the only way to watch this show - or at least the best.  The idea that this thing could go completely off the rails at any moment is a big reason why I've stuck with this mess for the last few years.

Remember when Star derailed Babs plan to let her announce her departure in a couple weeks but Star called bullshit and quit on the air?  One of the most awesome moments ever.  The look on Babs face was priceless.   Or one of the best days ever - when Bits not only told us she would be "moving on" but then she took her smelly suede shoes and proceeded to do so immediately?  The last gift Bitsy ever gave me.  Good times.

I feel so cheated that ABC shitcanned those two morons on a Thursday afternoon before a week of repeats.  If they wanted to get the ratings and make some sparks  they should have done it live on the air.  With a split screen.  Heh.

Put it on the teleprompter because even though she is an award winning actress with dyslexia Whoopi never prepares by even looking over her lines, preferring instead to see them for the first time on the teleprompter.  I can just imagine Whoopi reading, "And speaking of Whatever, how about this?:  Uh,  Jenny and Sherri,  ABC has announced that your contracts are going to be, uh NOT going to be  renewed."  Then  go to a split screen.

This show loves to think it's super hip by including Twitter in the show - think of the tweets that they could have ran across that screen!  They wouldn't even have to make anything up - people would have actually tweeted their applause.

  2. @renard, I forgot all about Little Stuart?  I guess the show did too.

I had the feeling they were moving back to NYC even though no one said so and I don't think Hank had any luggage.  Truthfully, I stopped caring about Hand and Karen a long time ago.  I'm just glad this show is over since apparently I never stopped watching it.

    Rosalie Aprille! ~ "And it's a middle!"

Ha!  Thank you @TheSolution.  I could not figure out how I knew that actress.

  3. I think we can cross Rosie off the list unless it's true that Geddie is gone.   Not that I know if she would even be interested in sharing a platform with anyone again, but I feel safe in saying she wouldn't work with him again.

She did leave a lasting impression on the show however: Rosie was the one that relegated him to the back after years of sitting in the front row.  She is also the one that had the four day work week, and the audience giveaways.  Unfortunately, her attempts at gearing an entire show towards a particular topic (adoption for example) fell by the wayside as did  anyone that knew how to interview guests.

  4. Shame on CNN, for running a story (today too) that didn't challenge Jenny's claim that she's leaving in solidarity with Sherri.

    http://www.cnn.com/2014/06/27/showbiz/tv/the-view-sherri-shepherd-jenny-mccarthy/

I think CNN, like many (most) news media just repeat what they see on social media and press releases without bothering to investigate or even fact check.   Then someone else will pick it up (Hey - CNN is reporting blah blah blah) and it's off like wildfire.  Look how many online gossip/entertainment sites just repeated Sherry and Jenny's tweets on Friday.

ETA: Oops, I just read the rest of the story on that page and it sounds like CNN did talk to someone in Sherri's camp or "sources" close to Sherri who are saying she's been ready to leave for a few months.  I think that's probably true considering how she's been acting on the show.  She knew her contract was up, and this was probably going to happen.      As far as Jenny goes, I wonder if anyone really even cares.  She did about a dozen episodes of The Jenny McCarthy Show on VH1 last year before joining The View.   Now she can go back out on the anti-vaccine activist trail.  I hear measles is making a real comeback.

  5. Ha!  After all that "extra effort" in trying to prove this show is live at least four days a week (selfies on the couch, tweet in your opinion of a Not Hot Topic (all things other shows have been doing for a while and do better)  they suddenly go back to taped.  This mess is all over the place.

    • Thursday: Live show - hey did you know The Spew is live?
    • Thursday afternoon : Jenny and Sherri get the ax and hit social media about it.
    • Friday:  Recorded Wednesday with Bab's acting all lovey like it never happened because it hadn't happened when they taped this.
    • Monday - Friday: Everyone has left the building - prerecorded shows fill the spo

  6. Who is everyone else's dream team pick?

@Jiggle Billy there is a whole thread devoted to this here.

The show's credibility is so shot that even TMZ's lowbrow readers think it's garbage now! You'd figure the dumbing down of the show would appeal there, but I guess it's gone too far..

I love this @Kromm! The Spew  seems to pay very close attention to TMZ - it's like their #1 source of information so there is way TPTB did not see this.  I'll bet this was what made them finally decide to clean house - even if they won't admit it.

  7. @MedicineCrow, some of those comments are hilarious!

I think it's also hilarious that so many viewers online (especially in the comments of some of the articles) also think the show should just be cancelled; it's the opposite of when a good show gets cancelled and the fans get bummed and sometimes mount campaigns to keep them.   I can think of a few cancelled shows that were picked up by other networks because of fan reaction.  But for The Spew there seems to me a wave of "just cancel this shitshow already" sentiment and that cracks me up for some reason.  It's like the show is so stubborn it refuses to die no matter how bad it gets.

This is from a Salon.com article posted on The Media Thread.  This is why they think ABC should just cancel the show:

The very point of “The View” has been to present real women’s opinions on the issues of the day, and it’s already become a show about women holding back opinions, if they in fact have any at all, and sticking to sunny, easy topics. Why not turn it into a coed celebration of our favorite celebrities — or just cancel it, given that the show had already migrated so far from its putative mission even before Shepherd and McCarthy departed?

  8. I did find one more article (which I can't find for now) but said when the show started, the median age was 45. Now it's close to 62. So clearly trying to do "What's Poppin'" to an audience reaching the AARP levels was a bad idea.

I think those numbers refer  to the age of the co-hosts not the audience.  But it makes sense either way.

The Salon article @mtlchick linked above is good.  This sums up Jenny's participation for me:

That was, of course, before conservative Hasselbeck and liberal Joy Behar departed the series; since then, the show has been overtaken by the flat celebrity gossip that had always been a part of its formula. McCarthy encapsulates the show’s major problem over the past year: Though many had worried the vaccine-truther would use the show to spread pseudoscience, she’s too vain a self-styled superstar to take a real risk on-air. She creamily expresses absolutely no opinion at all, and the show, moderated by Whoopi Goldberg (who straightforwardly just wants a check), sinks to her level — who on this show is going to initiate a serious-minded debate over ISIS? “The View” was never amazing TV, but it brought well-intended political debates to an underserved audience, and at its best it allowed viewers to better understand just what unpolished personalities from outside the punditocracy were thinking.

  9. They never are FIRED, are they?

Well, I think Bitsy was actually fired, heh.  .  But technically Sherri would have absolutely aware of this possibility since her contract expired this year.

LuckyBitch said she was curious about the March trip to LA that Sherrie,Sal and Jeffery took. I think that was the critical point. Something happened during that trip that "broke the camels back".

Around the time they got married, I thought I read Sherri fired her manager and replaced him with Sal.  I wonder if that factored into anything?

  10. This is without a doubt the best analysis of what is discussed here every day and even more so now with the departures.

    https://tv.yahoo.com/news/view-wants-care-again-bye-091500406.html

@maryis, this is a great analysis of the devolution of this show.  I love the suggestion that if ABC is going to go forward they need to go smarter.  That's what Joy, Meredith, and Star all had in common, they were smart.  Rosie as well.  Whoopi is no dummy but i think she thinks she's smarter than she really is on this show because she's surrounded by morons (Sherri, Bits, then Jenny).

    From the article linked above:

Do you remember when "The View" was as close as you could get to must-see morning talk show TV?  When it was seemingly a microcosm for the political debates going on between the left and right?  When the chemistry between the hosts could entice surprising off the cuff answers from any guest? (Even those who thought they were just there to promote a new movie or TV show?).  Yes, it's been awhile. It's been a long while and that's probably the biggest reason Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy are leaving the show.

News broke Thursday night that Shepherd, who has been a permanent co-host since 2007, and McCarthy, who joined for this past season, would not return for the show's 18the edition.  Along with show co-creator Barbara Walters "retirement" that leaves only Oscar-winner Whoopi Goldberg left at the table.  McCarthy was brought on board to replace the departing Elisabeth Hasslebeck and Joy Behar, but with so many guest hosts sitting in for Walters or one of the other three regulars it didn't felt like "The View" at all this past year.

  11. BW continued her "Year of the Coverup" by kissing up to both Sherri and Jenny. I am not sure WHEN they found out (depending on what reports you read/believe... but I sorta buy the " late Thursday afternoon meeting" theory. Babs clearly knew about this (if not, then she isn't much of an executive producer , although she STILL is not much of one). Her phoniness and mendacity know no bounds

I watched most of the show today and oh boy it was hilarious.  First, Whoopi, self appointed child raising expert,  told Rancic the studies he's read are bullshit - he should listen to her when it comes to raising successful children.   Because her own daughter not only had a baby at 14/15  but at age 40 she (and her subsequent kids) are still on Whoopi's payroll. I kind of felt bad for Bill,  he thought he was on a talk show dealing with professional talk show hosts.  The general suckage of the co-hosts made Bill look really good though.

But of course, the best part was Bab's triumphant return just hours after the blood bath at The Spew.  100% Babs knew what was coming down the pike - she probably didn't know it was going to be the day before her taped show aired though.  Ha!

I loved how these morons "interviewed" Babs the exact way they interview everyone else - by telling her what her project is about, including parts of the interview she was on to promote rather than letting her explain it.  They even rolled the "clip" prematurely and without sound so they had to do it again.  They didn't' even bother to edit this screw-up out either.

I am going to miss Jenny's shoes - I thought the nude Christian Louboutin's she had on today were perfection.  What a contrast to Bitsy's smelly old suede taupe numbers she wore every damn day.

  12. I'm wondering if Jenny is referring to Sweaty Bill Geddie and his blonde "right arm" as her "Avengers" - meaning they will remain to take revenge for her and Sherri's departure.  Or more likely, Jenny doesn't know what "avenge" means because if she thinks Geddie is on her side she's even dumber than I thought.  IF Geddie is still attached to this show, he had to either have a hand in this or at the very least didn't protest it.

  13. I just can't see someone like Diane Sawyer answering to or even working near Sweaty Bill Geddie.   In a fairytale it would be like the smart and classy princess working for the gross misogynistic troll.  But as long as we are dreaming/wishing/speculating I'd like to see and actual young person (under 30) at the table rather than two 40 somethings pretending to be 25.

  14. WTH are CosmoCrush and  Bossa Nova?? Tonight's news will hopefully make them come on over here and join in with us!

I just responded to this on The Media Thread Lucky but I guess I should have come here first.  I'm still catching up with everyone's great snark.  You know me well.  Now, we just need BossaNova!  I wonder if she's registered here at all?   I'm hoping this great news will bring her here too.

  15. Yay @Cosmocrush - good to see you!  Several posters have been asking where you were...

Thanks @Tunia.  I haven't really been watching the show since TW0P shut down but when I heard this news I knew you guys would be all over it and wanted to join in!

Now, I see that I was  premature in celebrating Geddie's departure.  Damn,  I should have known better - this show is so cheaply produced it must make buckets of money for ABC.   Like a barnacle on the bottom of a boat that guy is going to hang on until the network pulls the plug on this mess.  I mean, this is a guy who made his entire career off Barbara Walters and her name.   Well, they can keep changing the cast and the theme song, add men. etc.  but with Geddie as the hands on executive producer, this show will remain a shitshow to me.   Sadly, it's so cheap to produce it

I say break out the champagne, Cosmocrush is backkkkk!!! That is the icing on the cake right now! Several of us have been wondering where you were, Cosmocrush, and just tonight in the Small Talk topic I said this big news would hopefully get you over here!

Geddie and Sherri are finally gone and now  - and, bonus - Cosmocrush is back!

Now, we just need Bossa Nova to check in, and probably a few others who never made it over here.

ETA:  Awww, thanks @LuckyBitch!  After all our years together in the trenches at TW0P guess you know me well.  The minute I heard about this I thought about all of us from TW0P and knew I had to get in on the celebration.

  16.  A taped show tomorrow is going to make all of them look idiotic , imo.

Don't you mean more idiotic @ginger?  I know, seems impossible.  I'm cracking up just thinking about Babs and the gang of morons sitting around the table tomorrow.

Hahahahah!  Break out the champagne!  Geddie Gets Gone!  But I'm in the camp of just cancel this mess already; I don't have alot of faith in TPTB when they leak the news on a Thursday before not only an new show but a week of reruns rather than make an announcement like a grownup.

I'm guessing it was one of those - "Get your things and leave the building today" meetings which is probably why Jenny and Sherri felt free to get their statements out there.   I wonder if they were surprised?  Geddie and Sherri were long overdue and I don't have a problem with Jenny leaving.  She spent eight months on this show of "Hot Topics" and never ever mentioned her years as a big celebrity activist against vaccinating children.  Like it never happened.

While I've always believed it wasn't Babs idea to retire, I do think it was her idea to leave during sweeps and before the season ended - in large part so she wouldn't have to deal with these well deserved firings.  Now it all makes sense to me.  I doubt she had anything to do with the "shake-up" but this way she got to avoid any association with it.  I never said Babs wasn't smart.
