  1. I even noticed Father and Andreiii were wearing almost the same shirt!
  2. Well, David knows the word "baht," so there's that.
  3. Is it just me or did he look stoned AF in the restaurant scene?
  4. So David Spain's plan for the next few years involves some sort of backpacking adventure? Evelyn does not strike me as the backpacking type. And she is his first 'real' relationship, but he is not her first? Is there anything at all that these two have in common, besides religious beliefs??
  5. So I had to look up rictus grin. I know what my nightmares will consist of tonight.
  6. Yes! Evelyn and David's was particularly awkward.
  7. I'm also not buying that this meal was served in her honor, as was the case with Larry and the pig. I think it was payback for Nicole rejecting vegetables and getting all squeamish about the live chickens. Azan was like "oh yeah, take this!" Aunt Azan seems like a playful, good-natured person. I doubt she thought Nicole would eat it and I equally doubt she was offended when she didn't.
  8. Agree that Olivia is not a "child" for the most part (probably only a few months younger than Evelyn and about the same age difference between her and Luis as Evelyn and David). The main problem is the dynamic and context of the situation. Evelyn was (we assume) 18 when she met David and he pursued her as a girlfriend. She liked him, he liked her, everyone is legal, fine. Luis has been moved into Olivia's house as her mom's fiance, which she had no say in. Because of the bizarre 'stepfather' dynamic, he might feel he holds power over her. Totally different situation than her having a boyfriend of the same age. I really hope she gets out of that house as soon as possible.
  9. I feel like you are reading my mind right now. Only thing I sorta disagree on is the ethnicity comment at the modeling agency. While it seems abhorrent, modeling agencies and marketing departments absolutely cast people with an "image" in mind, and ethnicity, age, etc. are all part of the process. They think her ethnicity will appeal to certain demographics. I feel like there used to be at least 1 or 2 somewhat sincere couples per season, but now it all seems choreographed.
  10. Elizabeth & Andrei - I actually didn't think anything Andrei said during the girls night out convo was that unreasonable. I sure as hell would not want my spouse going out to the club until 4am. What disturbs me is how Elizabeth seems to have a genuine fear of him and his temper. She needs to get out NOW. Nicole & Azan - I'm not sure sheep head falls in the 'healthy food' category. David & Annie - He is gross but I didn't really get what the big argument was? He was drunk but other than that, did I overlook something? Evelyn & David - Boring Molly & Luis - All kinds of wrong. I agree with everyone who said he is testing the waters. Cultural differences aside, I can't believe it is acceptable anywhere to have that conversation with your soon to be stepdaughter. Since Molly is trying on dresses next week, obviously she doesn't care. It truly makes me sad and disgusted. Josh & Aika - I like her, can't stand him. He sounds 19 instead of fortysomething. She could do soooo much better. I also think he has the same filter on his phone/camera as Elizabeth. He looks a lot different in quite a few of their pictures.
  11. Just her demanding her way because she (kinda) holds all the cards at this point since he can't work yet, they're living with her family, etc. If they move away and he's the only one working, I could see him using that position to his advantage. Not in an abusive way, but a jerky way. Something about the way he went for the jugular on Mikayla makes me think he's a guy who keeps score and waits for his moment to pounce. I could be wrong of course. I think he's older and worldly and decent looking. For an 18 year old, he might look like quite a catch.
  12. Yea...as much as I want to be happy that an American is fully embracing another culture, this just feels forced. I have no idea if this is a real relationship or not, but I do know I'm tired of hearing the word baht. And it would make no difference if the word were dollar, peso, ruble, yen, whatever.
  13. Really interesting perspective on David. He really showed his ass on this episode. His response to Mikayla is what I would expect from an 18 year old, but not a guy getting close to 30 who appears to be somewhat mature in other ways. It seems like he's taking his fiancee's friend's concerns way too personally, when we haven't heard her say anything really negative about him, per se, rather just general concerns about the relationship moving too fast, etc. There is a sharper edge to him than I initially thought. I could definitely see him filing away current slights to use as ammunition in later arguments.
  14. For the first few episodes, I thought Kensley's name was Kingsley due to the accent.
  15. Why were Olivia and her boyfriend sitting at the kids table?
  16. Yes! I never trust anyone who smiles regardless of the topic or emotion.
  17. Why do so many guys on this show have eyebrows with vertical lines in them? Luis, Azan, Brother Evelyn. Is this a trend I'm unaware of?
  18. Brother Molly is one cool customer. He reminds me of Matthew McConaughey's character in Dazed and Confused. "Alright, alright, alright.."
  19. Andrei is an aggressive optimist. As in, he is aggressively optimistic.
  20. While Haiti is a poor country, Abby appears to be living in Petionville, which is a fairly well to do suburb of the capital. Poverty is all around, but it seems like her family is doing pretty well. Plus, she's educated and fluent in English, which is not taught in every school in Haiti (French is taught beginning in primary school). I guess my point is, while there absolutely is desperate poverty in Haiti, Abby does not appear to be in that situation.
