  1. And... Julia Roberts is not a lock! I love Kathy Bates, but I don't watch AHS.
  2. I just finished Nurse Jackie yesterday and the Melissa McCarthy/ Edie Falco bit was right out of an episode. And...Larry Kramer does not win an Emmy. Ah well...
  3. I noticed earlier that they promo-ed "Bryan Cranston in 9 minutes" and thought...WTF. Are they gonna do that all evening?
  4. I love JLD, but I don't love Veep...
  5. I do love how the comedy actresses all have a great sense of humor about this show. That bit with Bryan Cranston and JLD was fab.
  6. aradia22 and ABay, thank you both for watching the pre-game show so I didn't have to!
  7. Mazel tov to you, ShannonL! And to harrie and iPad!! I know there's nothing harder than losing a bunch of weight. Way back around 1980, I managed to drop 40 pounds in about 8 months, then 20 more over the next year and a half. I kept most of it off until a few years ago, when I put back on about half of it over 2 years. But still... I can tell you that the older you are, the more difficult it is to lose, so stick with it if you're going good now! My goals at this point are to not gain any more back. A bonus would be to lose a couple pounds a year...which I did last year. Holding steady so far this year. We'll see. Nicely done, all!!
  8. @Bastet, how could I have forgotten Bette Midler?? Saw her several times back in the day and as you say, she's so much fun on stage!! Also forgot Peter Allen, who I totally enjoyed several times. When I was in my formative years, I always said I'd wait all night in line for tickets to see La Streisand (which was easy for me to say since she swore she'd never perform live again). Then she changed her mind. I took one look at the ticket prices...and so did I. I am jealous that you got to see her.
  9. I have to confess... I went to see Jimmy Buffett for the same reason I went to see Bruuuuuuuuce... because someone else gave me tickets (or arranged for the group to buy them) and I figured why not. Let's see what the fuss was about. And there was one big part of each show that was exactly the same, and to me, kinda scary. The audience knows what to do at all the same points in all the same songs. Both shows - thousands of people standing, swaying, waving their arms at the exact same time in the exact same way. Kinda like a big cult thing. It was...weird. I enjoyed Jimmy so much more than Bruuuuuuce though, because he takes himself a lot less seriously. It was a way more fun evening for me.
  10. I love this song! It's the song I always request at parties and the DJ will usually give me the stink-eye...either because he hates it or he doesn't have it...or both.
  11. David Cassidy Sonny & Cher Liza Minelli Barry Manilow The Beach Boys Chicago Elton John Billy Joel Elton John & Billy Joel Three Dog Night Dire Straits Eric Clapton Lyle Lovett (and with his Large Band) John Hiatt & Lyle Lovett Robert Plant & Allison Krauss Robert Plant & The Band of Joy Robert Plant & The Sensational Space Shifters Paul Simon Simon & Garfunkel The Monkees Peter Noone/Davy Jones/Bobby Sherman Gotham The Grateful Dead Barbara Cook Ethel Merman Jimmy Buffet Bruuuuuuce (just to see what the fuss was about) Bon Jovi Huey Lewis John Denver Mose Allison The Flatlanders Rock Bottom Remainders Matthew Sweet The Pogues Bob Dylan Willie Nelson John Mellencamp Ray Davies Neil Diamond Roger Daltry Billy Bragg Ralph Stanley Nick Cave Buddy Guy Village People Patti Lupone Mandy Patinkin Patti Lupone & Mandy Patinkin Beth Hart Sarah Vaughan closing Charlie’s Georgetown Allison Krauss Kasey Musgraves Nellie McKay Ray Charles at Mazza Gallery Dave Bromberg This list is not in chronological order but it's what I can come up with at the moment. Many of these acts I've seen multiple times, because if I enjoy someone's music, I'm going to go back every time they are in town.
  12. I was working from home again Friday and they showed 2 episodes from season 1 (not consecutive eps) between 1 and 2 pm. Don't know if it's a regular Friday afternoon thing...but I'll find out this coming Friday! I hope it's on.
  13. John Lithgow on Charlie Rose talking about doing Lear in The Park (and other things). I missed the first half, but I'm going to see if I can find it somewhere. I love John Lithgow. Met him during the pre-Broadway run of M Butterfly...a lovely man.
  14. Alan Cumming is scheduled into January.
  15. Fried chicken. Any time. All the time.
  16. I got tickets to the show/taping on Friday the 12th. The show on Wednesday was added after. If anyone is going on Friday, I'd love to meet up.
  17. Wow...thanks for reminding me that I hate PB&J. Just give me the PB - Skippy, extra crunchy, thanks. I remember going to the movies with a friend and her dad. They brought PB&J and bought popcorn...with butter. Yuck. Fortunately, I like the movie - That Darn Cat. Yes, the original :-) One thing I do love that others don't is anchovies on my pizza. Came to that later in life, but now I love them. Also came to olives later in life...specifically on a trip to Italy to visit my brother several years ago. Olives and wine... yummmmm. Better late than never!

    MLB Thread

I would guess that most markets have a local sports network. Here in DC/Baltimore, we have MASN and can watch the O's and the Nats every night. Speaking of which, the O's just had a 60th anniversary ceremony after the game (in which they trounced the Cards!) and MASN broadcast the whole thing. Which is good since I was dumb enough not to think it was going to be that big of a deal and so I didn't get tickets. It really was lovely. Tons of O's vets showed up, including my favorite ever, Brooks Robinson. He looks...old...but he seems to have recovered from his recent illness, thank goodness. Lots of highlights shown on the screen and the side of the warehouse, then fireworks. Nicely done all around.
  19. My very first big-girl crush was on Robert Wagner as Alexander Mundy in It Takes A Thief. He's still got a great smile...
  20. I'm working from home today and FXX just ran the last 2 episodes of the show. I haven't watched in years...and I'm sobbing like a baby. I love this show. One day I will actually open the complete DVD set I have.
  21. Oh my... this show played the theatre where I worked about 2 weeks after John Belushi died. Jim was a maniac. Really. It's amazing that he made it through the tour. He came back to visit us a couple years later and couldn't have been sweeter. It was a tough time for him. Peter Noone was lovely. I did love the show...saw it in Central Park with Kevin Kline (swoooooon), Linda Ronstadt and Rex Smith. Lots of fun!
  22. Okay...I know you've all been waiting for my trip report (ha!). Started off in the best possible way with snacks and drinks with @aradia22! A lovely time was had by all. The first night we saw Lady Day. There is nothing Audra McDonald cannot do. The script is a bit thin, but she's a tour de force. We had seats in the 3rd row all the way at the end, but we were on the side with the piano player and she plays a lot to him, so I don't feel like we missed anything. I'd advise against sitting at the tables on the floor. Looked pretty cramped there. Sunday afternoon was Pippin. I wept when John Rubenstein came out. And when Priscilla Lopez did her number. Because I'm old and sentimental. Which is probably why the circus acts were wearing thin for me by the second act. I have rose-colored memories of the original show and this was just a bit ... too much. I also felt that Ciara Renee was way too harsh as Leading Player. However, all in all, I did enjoy the afternoon. I do love the show. Monday evening we say Patti Lupone at 54 Below. What a great show. Patti is in fabulous voice and seemed to be having a wonderful time, which meant all of us had a wonderful time. And the food there is even good! It's a lovely venue and I hope to see more shows there. Tuesday we saw Violet. I really didn't know what to expect, but I loved the show. Small show and quite powerful. The performances were stellar. I thought the absence of the scar makeup worked well. Sutton really put the emotions across. Joshua Henry was fabulous. I think it was my favorite of the 3 shows we saw. All in all a marvelous trip. Looking forward to January/February!
  23. Roy Rogers! I grew up near the Hot Shoppes and loved the fried chicken. When Roy's opened, they were owned by the same people (at least that's what my faulty memory tells me), therefore, I also loved the fried chicken there. And I used to eat it All. The. Time. This was before Popeye's arrived here in the Greater DC Metropolitan Area. I think they showed up as Roy's was fading out. And now i love Popeye's. However, last year a Roy's opened near my house. And against my better judgement, I went in and had some chicken. And dammit, it's as good as I remember. Just what I need... :-)
  24. My last meal request would be Popeye's spicy white meat dinner with fries and a biscuit. Really
  25. In the past couple of months, there have been screenings of Driving Miss Daisy with Angela Lansbury, James Earl Jones and (one of my favorite actors) Boyd Gaines, and The Nance with Nathan Lane. Both of those will also be shown on PBS this fall (probably with pledge breaks - boo) I like this trend.
