  1. I loved episode 2 as well. It's a very faithful adaptation of manga act 2 (see http://www.mangareader.net/1193-41820-1/bishoujo-senshi-sailor-moon/chapter-2.html ). There were a few touches in this episode that weren't based off of the manga, like when Ami has a flashback to the Silver Millennium as she hands Luna back to Usagi. The only laugh-out-loud moment for me in this episode was when Usagi threw the Crystal Seminar flyer backwards, and it landed in a tuxedo-clad Mamoru's face. So this series loses a lot of the humor in the original anime, but I think it's a good tradeoff, since the animation is so much prettier. As a Sailor Venus fan, I'm bummed that it's going to be months before her reveal (not until Act 8 of the manga, which at this rate will be 12 weeks from now!), but I appreciate the Sailor V cameos in each episode.
  2. Maybe it's not a lie at all - she was there with only her husband, not two dozen+ family members (plus the oft-present camera crew), complete with screaming howlers and charged with the care of multiple little buddies.
  3. I also really enjoyed episode 1! At first, I thought it was almost a complete copy of the original anime's first episode, but with much higher quality animation. Then I went back to my copy of the manga (A Mixx translated version from the 90s) and saw that it almost exactly replicates Act I of the manga, complete with Mamoru's first appearance in a tuxedo (which I did a double-take on - hopefully this means it won't be such a cognitive gap for Usagi in the new anime to figure out who Tuxedo Mask is). It seems like the only minor plot detail that was adapted from the original anime instead of the manga was Usagi's red hair fasteners alerting her to Naru being in danger, rather than her Sailor Moon eye mask in the manga (although I'm kind of bummed the eye mask was left out). I'm curious to see whether the rest of the series remains set in the early 1990s, or whether they will take this opportunity to modernize the series (mostly the technology aspect). For instance, Act 2 of the manga introduces Ami and uses the brainwashing floppy disk as a plot point. I wonder if Act 2 of this new anime will still use a floppy disk, or whether they'll modernize it to a USB drive. Similarly, I wonder if the Sailor communicators and Ami's Sailor Mercury computer will be upgraded to smart phone-like devices.
  4. A thread to discuss Love It or List It's Vancouver spinoff (called Love It or List It Too in the US), starring ex-Bachelorette Jillian Harris and actor-turned-realtor Todd Talbot (apparently, he's had bit-parts on Young Blades, Smallville, Dark Angel, and Josie and the Pussycats as an actor/dancer). Season 1 premiered in 2013, and season 2 is currently being produced. What do you all think of this spinoff series? It's missing a lot of David and Hilary, if you ask me. I'm not a big fan of Jillian's designs (practically everything she designs has a nautical theme, from what I've seen), and I cringe at how she constantly asks homeowners to "inject" more money into the budget when problems arise, or refers to Todd as her "arch-nemesis." There was also the particularly cringeworthy episode where she tore down the homeowners' carport, then realized she didn't have the money to build them a garage like was originally in the plans. Todd just seems like he's playing the role of an overzealous realtor, which I guess fits into his acting background. The banter between Todd and Jillian seems contrived and somewhat mean-spirited, and it isn't much fun to watch in my opinion.
  5. A topic about Shadowjack's awesome, insightful, and often hilarious In-Which-I-Watch Sailor Moon illustrated episode recaps on RPG.net (based on the original Japanese episodes, NOT the US dubs, thank goodness!). What I enjoy the most about his recaps are his own interpretations on the Senshi - Sailor Moon isn't an airhead, Sailor Venus is restored to the awesome, complex character she was in the manga rather than a watered-down Sailor Moon lookalike she was in the TV series, etc. Links to all recaps - http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2133352/shadowjack.html (So far, he's done Sailor Moon Classic, Sailor Moon R, and Sailor Moon S, and he's starting SuperS; he's also done CodeName Sailor V manga and the first Sailor Moon manga arc) First recap thread, with other user discussion: http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?468442-In-Which-I-Watch-Sailor-Moon This recap series even has its own TVTropes page: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Script/ShadowjackWatchesSailorMoon
  6. For US folks, it looks like we're in for a Love It or List It marathon today from 12 PM - 6 PM central time on HGTV. The 12 PM show will be a rerun of the infamous Desta-as-the-homeowner episode.
  7. I really like the current Elphaba. The current Glinda seems meh, and the bright yellow curly wig was looking especially hideous tonight. I was surprised they didn't pan to Idina after the performance.
  8. Was this the one where Hilary marched the homeowners into their home and made them start decluttering themselves, on camera? That was a very satisfying moment for me. (If so, I think this was also the episode where Hilary was speechless on the pre-renovation home tour, to the point where David eased up on his usual schtick.)
