  1. Yes that's correct, which is why I found it so strange
  2. THIS! Exactly what I complained to my dog when it happened. He wholeheartedly agreed; he knows his beasts. EXACTLY! Shut up, Alex. He also strangely added "gypsies" to the "Roma" answer. I would expect Alex to know that term is now widely considered to be pejorative. The only TS I got was streudel. FJ was a near instaget, only because Animal Farm briefly popped into my head first. I didn't love Charlotte's Web and I remember taking off the cover wrap because I was/am deathly afraid of spiders.
  3. Yes Alex, Monday was indeed a fun day, a one-and one day! Lord it was satisfying to see a woman beat the pants off David’s fake happy ass. Same here, probably my favorite Bond film. I also got painter and priest. FJ wasn't an instaget because I'd never heard sackbut before but the inches part of the clue got me there pretty quickly. I can dust off my flute if you guys are thinking of a J!Orchestra...
  4. LIKE, and I didn't have a clue about the other squirrels in the category. Guess they're all after my time ;-) The only TS I remember getting was South Lawn. I knew Rapid City was in one of the Dakotas but not which one. I tried to give David a pass for maybe being a fan who's wanted to be on Jeopardy for a long time and has never been to LA and is just super excited and overwhelmed about the whole thing but that DD wager performance was just fake fakery. I suspect he'll be a one and done (as I did for Mirza(sp?) who imploded when faced with some real competition).
  5. That bugged me so much that they let that slide. It's only one of his most well known songs... That cracked me up! I'm glad you mentioned that because I was like, wait, did I miss the correct answer? Shut up, Alex. For TS I got William, Al Michaels, The Beverly Hillbillies, Carroll O’Connor, Lake Ponchartrain, and Little Red Corvette. I guessed phrenology for FJ because my brain forgot I once studied Latin. Oy. I don't think the new champ should get too comfortable; he played well but he also didn't have much competition. Andy was kind of ridiculous. "Purple"?? Say whut?
  6. Oh wow I had no idea why he'd gone with that combination! It was not easy on my eyes... There were some good categories today. I thought the literary oops and prize packages ones were particularly fun. "CO" was interesting but not enough time for my brain to work out. The only TS I got was Jim. FJ was an instaget because of the "rainha". I was rooting for Sharon and her Spanish pronunciation.
  7. Catching up from yesterday... Buzzy's thirst is so very real, I had no clue death+taxes = Ben Franklin, and very eerie about Kate Spade. I love her style and have one of her wallets. As for today, for TS I got A Chorus Line, Vasco Da Gama (I always loved saying his name when I was a kid), and ta-da. For FJ I wild guessed Snidely Whiplash.
  8. Yep I typically root for the Brooklynites. Sorry to see Jeffrey go but I think Ian played well and deserved the win. For TS I got Hong Kong and chipotle, and the missed Remains of the Day DD. FJ was an instaget. It makes me sad to think a contestant wouldn't know him.
  9. I too am glad Smarty pants Skyler didn't win. Yay Jeffrey! My TS were Jackie Collins (surprised no one knew her) and Love & Rockets (one of my fave bands). FJ I had no clue Europa was a goddess who had some of Zeus' kids (#myjeopardyeducation) so I wild guessed Hera even though I figured it was wrong.
  10. As did I :-) I had to do a 3 game binge watch to catch up -- on YouTube since suddenly my cable picture looks like I have a bad satellite dish... Anyway, Yay Jeffrey! He's got the kind of awkwardness I find charming in a Jeopardy! contestant. So glad he beat Amanda. I cackled when she confidently announced her first answer and it was so very wrong. Ha, smarty pants. The only TS I got for tonight's game were Acropolis and standard but I'm on a roll with my third FJ instaget!
  11. I'm feeling cranky too, Carpe, so word to your entire post. But I did finally get FJ this week, and it was an instaget! I don't love Virginia but I'm glad she beat creepy Ross. I think Josh was just exhausted. ETA: Imaginary Husband Jeff Bridges never acknowledged my tweet :-( but Vin Diesel is now following me(??)
  12. That's exactly what I thought too. He seemed kind of checked out, and was making some random guesses that lost him a chunk of money at the end. I love that kind of word play but this time it went right over my head, probably for the exact reason you said. Ugh he bothered me so much. Thank goodness he's gone. Today I got under the table, Cezanne, and Indiana. No clue on FJ -- I haven't gotten FJ all week. Yeesh. I still like Josh, for real. I was away for the wink wink so I'm not sure if you guys are trolling me! LOL
  13. I was on vacation when Josh became champ so I'm just now "meeting" him - and I like him a lot. Go Josh! As someone else posted I too was thrilled to see an entire Jeff Bridges category. He's my long time Imaginary Hollywood Husband so I of course had to tweet him about it. This may be my final post on these boards because if he responds in any way I will surely die. Today for TS I got Rene, Who Do You Think You Are and The Sower, and the missed Dali DD. I felt like Josh faked not knowing that so Alex wouldn't chastise him for betting only $5. I'm 0 for 2 on FJ so far this week. I knew Dostoyevsky was incorrect but couldn't get him out of my head. They sure do. I still say Shea stadium and the Pan Am building and have no intention of changing!
  14. Yaaaay Larry! I called from his first game that he'd go all the way. It was nice how they all hugged at the end of a very competitive final. I'm glad I don't listen to the stories and missed this ;-)
  15. Yay Larry!!! Still wish you hadn't bet so much though. For TS I got Jay-Z and low emissions vehicle. I had no clue for FJ; I have never in my life heard the word "plumbago". #myjeopardyeducation As soon as I saw the double s category I guessed “assess” would be a clue
  16. I also drew a blank. I loved mythology when I was studying it but -- at least as far as Jeopardy! is concerned -- I haven't retained as much as I thought. I got the Alaska TS and the missed Tiber DD. Damn it, Larry. From day one I was rooting for you but what is up with picking from the middle, even after the DD was found?? I'll still be happy if either Larry or Clare wins. Looks to be a very competitive Finals!
  17. Yay the Latin teacher won (Clare?)! Rachel was smart but humorless and I can't even with that slow as molasses contestant. My TS were Dashiell Hammett (for shame. I LOVE the Thin Man movies!) and Bigmouth Strikes Again (shame again. I LOVE The Smiths!). FJ was an instaget. I had to screenshot the clue since I'm studying Arabic and my classmates and I think it's fun to collect references like that for class. #nerds
  18. I was drifting in and out as well. Something about Steve annoys the hell out of me and I felt like his voice was all I heard so at some points the game just became white noise. Poor Hottie Scottie got creamed. I'm just glad Erica didn't win; I'm still salty about her missing that James Meredith clue. Yes I'm petty like that. For TS I got scholarship, cancer, and lederhosen. FJ was an instaget because I remember there was a similar clue about Charleston's name origin a while ago and it stuck with me because I didn't realize the Charles in Charleston was royalty #myjeopardyeducation Oh and this, going into FJ, was so very unnecessary: “Scott, still alive – believe it or not". Shut up, Alex.
  19. I missed posting about yesterday's game but will quickly note I'm another fan of Scottie the Hottie. Today my TS were mountain climbing, sailing around the world, cello, juxtaposition, and Stonewall, and I got the missed DD Charlemagne. I felt embarrassed for Indi as he confidently said Augustus. For FJ, Elaine Stritch came to mind and while I could see her face in my mind, I couldn't remember her name to save my life, only that it started with an E. Congratulations!
  20. I didn't realize the Globe was such a well known fact. I was clueless. For TS I got Ain’t She Sweet, Spanish-American War, Jack Johnson, Ole Miss, and Gwendolyn Brooks. I'll be politically incorrect along with you. I'll go even further and say that not only do I think it's shameful an African-American educator doesn't know James Meredith went to Ole Miss, but I feel that's a fact every African-American college student/grad should know. I liked Bob and was hoping he would pull off the win but he made a couple of silly guesses. The woman on the right was really good; I think she's going to be stiff competition in the semis.
  21. That's exactly what I did. I wouldn't have guessed Fargo in a hundred years. The only TS I got were Toronto and yes. Since I've been away I had no idea this week was Teacher's Tournament. I thought Larry and the Latin teacher were head and shoulders above the typical tournament contestant. I'm rooting for Larry to go all the way. I like his demeanor. I did love the Latin teacher's enthusiasm for her subject. I loved studying Latin in high school; it still helps me out today. Sooooo annoying! The clue clearly said "he" and as far as I know Maggie has never identified as anything but female. Shut up, Alex.
  22. Preach! I had written a post about how RANDY! KEPT! YELLING! but it seems the site gremlins got it so I'll just co-sign everyone else who mentioned it. I'm leaving for vacation tomorrow and ordinarily I'd be missing my daily Jeopardy fix but not as long as Randy's around.
  23. I love all things RuPaul and can.not.wait. to see Alex as a judge on Drag Race. It's going to be a hot mess and I'm here for every second of it. SO glad the grown ups are back but I wasn't really a fan of any of these contestants. I won't miss the old champ, I loathed Rex because he's one of those players that acts like wrong guesses don't count against you, and Kate played really well (so I will probably warm to her tomorrow) but am I the only one who felt she was YELLING? My TS were records and Matthew Henson (no @teebax, I've never seen a contestant get him right. Sigh.), and the missed Haiti DD. I got distracted by Instagram and missed seeing FJ.
  24. Rebecca seems to have been playing just fine until I tuned in tonight - hope I didn't jinx her. She's a very strong player but that kid from Tufts was a beast. For TS I got protocol, Berlin, Howard Dean and Spike Lee. Alex is so weird sometimes. You definitely say it the way Spike and people who've actually seen the film (i.e. not Alex) do. I had no clue on FJ. I loved Greek mythology in high school but have lost most memory of the details. On top of that I think Thetis was the goddess in Clash of the Titans with the cursed son (Calibos?) who was trying to break up Perseus and Andromeda, so I made the very poor guess of Calibos(sp?). Oh how the mind can wander...
