  1. First thing I ever saw him in. I've had a teeny crush on him since. In general, he's an actor who's been in just about everything. Clueless, as mentioned. He was Phoebe's boyfriend then husband on Friends. He played Leslie's opponent for city council on Parks and Rec recently. He's been in a lot of other movies and shows. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0748620/
  2. Maybe because Paul Rudd had been so nice to Stephen's daughter?
  3. I have a Madame Alexander doll packed away somewhere. It was my "you aren't allowed to play with this; it's only for display" doll when I was a kid. As such, except for being a bit dusty, it was in perfect condition when I packed it up.
  4. This has jumped out at me. You were alive when Wounded Knee took place in 1890? Wow!
  5. Katie Lee is now on Food Network's weekly answer to The Chew called The Kitchen.
  6. I thought both Keiko and Winn were problems in the episode. Winn for the obvious reasons, but Keiko seems unable to understand or teach about something without teaching it as fact. And that, I think, makes her a poor teacher in general but especially in a classroom on a Bajoran station (where the Federation was invited to administrate) with a variety of students from disparate cultures. She seems equally inflexible to me; it's just that we're supposed to dislike Winn more, and so the narrative rather sets Keiko up as the good guy. I've never liked that about this episode.
  7. Nunavut is only a territory, though, not a province, correct? My husband did the same!
  8. Honestly curious question, why do you think that: Nothing about the Bajoran religion over the course of the show made me think that it's eco-spiritual. And religions can be very pragmatic, especially in a culture rebuilding itself and its identity after an experience such as Bajor had. So, I never found this problematic from a religion perspective. I like this episode, Brian Keith being a large part of that. For me, being from the part of the country I'm from, it reminded of the story of Harry Truman (not the president) who lived on Mt. St. Helens and refused to leave despite being encouraged and ordered to do so as the mountain was getting more and more active. He never did, and his home and (presumably) he were buried by the eruption when it happened. I wouldn't say this is one of my favorite episodes, but it works for me. I think the fact that it's kind of a philosophical play, with really only two characters, helps me enjoy it.
  9. The NATO alphabet from Wikipedia: If you watched Dollhouse, all the "dolls" were named after the letters of the alphabet: Echo, Sierra, Whiskey, Victor. I ran that category and thought it was pretty easy, but maybe that's because I'm from a military family. That was my problem, too. I couldn't get my brain past Istanbul.
  10. Alex's voice was just that distracting.
  11. Yeah, I thought maybe that's what he was trying to do. But he failed miserably, in my opinion. That wasn't hammy; it was just bad. And since there are only two women in the play, once you do a woman's voice that's Gertrude, the next woman's voice has to be Ophelia.
  12. I was so irritated at Alex doing those (terrible) voices for the Hamlet category. They were distracting, and they gave away the gender of the character.
  13. See, I've always considered the majority of what The Daily Show and now John Oliver do as mockery, not satire. The Colbert Report is out and out satire on all levels, and unless the Minority Report becomes that, too, for me, there'll be nothing to fill the satire gap.
  14. It's a reference to the Kermit the Frog song "It's Not Easy Being Green." Sure, I'm just assuming they'll both make it that far.
  15. I'm so bummed. But at least she's number 2 in all time wins. Her wins being all in this season means she and Arthur Chu will be up against each other in the tournament of champions.
  16. Julia's engineering degree is also from MIT. I don't think she'll be on the disadvantaged end of looking for jobs in that or a related field if she decides to.
  17. I enjoy Julia immensely. I'm relieved when it's a runaway at FJ every night so I don't have to worry she may lose. I want her to win win win. If I'm counting right, she only needs three more wins and she'll be the #2 all-time winner.
  18. We had a setback, too. We painted the whole room and then realized the yellow was just far too much, too overwhelming. So we've been back to the paint store to get a couple sample cans in different colors today to try to find one that works. We ended up settling on 50% lighter on the original color, since most of the other colors ended up looking cream or manilla. So, here it is, almost dinner time on the last day of the weekend, and we're just starting to paint. And it will take at least two coats.
  19. First baby. So we've had to reorganize the room for her. It was sort of a mix of guest room, dog's room, board game room. We had to totally reorg the office to move a lot of that stuff in there. And the bathroom, since we have no linen closet and had been using what's now the baby's closet for that purpose. The walls will be a sunshiny yellow. Green and white accents, if necessary. We haven't really gotten into the decorating mindset yet, but the crib is white.
  20. Our project for the weekend is painting our coming baby's bedroom. This is actually the end of the project cycle for us. It started when we decided to get the popcorn ceiling in that room tested and found out it had asbestos. So, we had to get a licensed asbestos abatement contractor out to remove the popcorn. Then we had to get a drywaller out to repair the damage to the ceiling and refinish it. Then we painted the ceilings in the affected rooms. Then we had a carpet cleaner out. Now we're finally getting around to painting the walls. Three months later than originally planned. After this weekend, the project is just buying and if necessary, assembling furniture for the baby's room.
  21. I wanted him to win, too, but he just simply got Final Jeopardy wrong. No bad wagers, no missed Daily Doubles, just got it wrong when the other two got it right, so I don't feel bad about Brad winning.
  22. I thought for sure Roger would be out of this when he wasn't able to play Final Jeopardy, but since both Ken and Brad got it wrong and topped out at only $7K and $10K, I think Roger still has a chance. Not that I want him to win, I'm rooting for Ken, but it's a better game with all three players still in the running. (And Ken egging him on was hilarious!) I got As Good As It Gets, but couldn't come up with the drama. I kept thinking of older movies, too.
  23. I thought Alex made an astute joke last night when interviewing Ken: He jokingly suggested Ken taking over for Alex as host. I could easily see that. In fact, I think I might like to see that.
  24. The widow was Data's mom, wasn't she? The actress, I mean. Clearly she's not the same character.
  25. Haha, rereader2, that's what I did, too!
