Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"
KittyMom4 replied to Betweenyouandme's topic in Everything Else
@backformore, I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but the cases you sighted above were mulit-state, multiple people who got ill. I was just stating that one person eating the same thing that 10 other people ate and only that one person has diarrhea and vomiting, it's likely that one person had something other than food poisoning. Food poisoning is real, and I know it happens, it's just not the ONLY thing that causes nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. -

Preach it! I work as an admin assist in the exec office of a grocery store chain, we get a few calls a month from people screaming that they got food poisoning from one of our items but unless there are multiple calls about the same item, it's likely not food poisoning. The questions you should ask yourself before you assume food poisoning are: Did you store it correctly? Did you wash your hands thoroughly the last time you used the restroom? Was it prepared on a clean counter? Did your child bring home a stomach bug? It's usually a random virus, and it sucks no matter how you caught it. -
So, so true! And there's nothing wrong with paying with stacks of cash, just GET A RECEIPT!!!

This is so true, after my divorce I attempted to sell my house (this was in the early 2000's when the market fell) it was only a couple years old as my ex and I had had it built, and we'd barely touched it decorating-wise so it had white walls and new carpet. The buyer feedback I got from my realtor was "the 4th bedroom is small", "the basement isn't finished", "don't like the carpeting", etc. Really? Shouldn't the realtor be discussing the potential? Gah! In the end I was so frustrated with my realtor's nonchalant "oh well, if you rip up the carpet and maybe knockout this wall to make the bedroom bigger..." type advice I wanted to throttle her. I ended up taking it off the market and refinancing it in my own name. -

Just remember it's the realtor who insists on these colors most of the time, supposedly it helps the potential buyer "envision his/her own items in the room" or some such hooey. Personally the color of the walls, the carpeting/wood floor and fixtures never mattered when I was looking for a house as I knew I could replace them fairly easily and cheaply. When my ex-husband and I were house hunting 15+ years ago we went into a home with so much clutter, every wall, every shelf, every table top covered with knick-knacks, pictures, "artwork", etc. that we only looked at the kitchen & dining room before we walked out. With all that stuff it was hard to figure out the space and dimensions. I remember their realtor apologizing and telling us he'd had several people walk out after a brief visit and no matter how many time he begged the homeowner to clear it out they refused. Just be grateful it's only Gray/Beige/White wall that you have to deal with! -
Quoting @AngelaHunter from the People's Court forum, I thought I was the only one who kept the white appliances in my kitchen. I like the brightness as well as the easy care. I have laminate countertops that I may upgrade to Corian at some point down the road, but right now I'm fine with what I have. A lot of people comment to me "oh when you sell buyers will want granite/stainless steel/wood flooring!" good for them, I don't plan on selling any time soon and when I do the buyers can spend their money on upgrades after I hand over the key.

I've been on a year long closet purging because I used to have the mindset that 'some day' I'll want to wear that, or 'some day' that will look good on me. I also tend to hang on to things that have small stains or holes thinking that I can cover it with a sweater or jacket. It got to a point where my walk-in closet was a standing room only closet. I have donated to the local battered women's shelter & goodwill, at least 2 or 3 large bags a month. Once my closet got to a manageable level, joined Stitch Fix (I hate to shop for clothes) to get some unique and updated styles. When my box arrives and I decide what I'm keeping I take the same number of items out of my closet for donation so I don't end up back at square one. It's been a process but totally worth it. -

We had a new person in our office a few years ago, poor lady heated up some brussel sprouts with some other pungent item, maybe broccoli, and ate it at her desk. The office was dead silent (unusual) the whole time she was eating because we were trying not to gag and we didn't want to make her feel bad, one of our VP's came back into the office from another building and immediately said loudly, "whoever is eating that food needs to never, ever eat it in the office again." The woman immediately got up and went to dump the rest of her dish and then apologized, I felt so bad for her but she never brought it back to her desk again. -

I said something jokingly to one of the ladies that works there, she laughed and said that smelly foods are 2nd only to the people who reheat without covering their dish so when the food explodes or spills all over they just leave it. She said she asked to post a sign reminding people to cover (they provide paper towels to do so) but her boss didn't want anyone to be offended. **eye roll** -

Pet Peeve: People who reheat strong smelling seafood items in the company microwaves. I would rather smell burnt popcorn than leftover tuna noodle casserole any day! And I like tuna noodle casserole and many other seafood dishes but I would not want to stink up the whole cafeteria with it! Yuck! edited because I like "many" other seafood dishes... -
I like this theory, it makes sense. I was behind 3 episodes until last night, I am going to rewatch all the episodes again (ff'ing through the cat in the bag scene), I loved this show and can't wait for it's return!

As soon as mom said "I'm a single mother so...." I knew she'd done very little to reel in Little Miss Car-Keyer. I have a feeling she didn't put as much effort into raising her daughter as she did to her eye make-up.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage

I did, but now use an app on my phone. My birth control days are no longer (thank you tubal ligation) but I am still regular as rain at 50 years old. -
I agree, JJ wasn't bullying her, she was trying to get across to her that the path she is on will only lead to more problems, the kind that put you in front of judge that sentences you to hard time. Unfortunately I think it fell on deaf ears, she just had a blank stare as if she was already plotting her vengeance on BrighTON and the Plantiff with the heavy lashes. I also didn't feel much sympathy for the Single Mom of Makayla either, I have a feeling that she has excused, defended, or ignored her daughter's behavior for many years before it became felonious and now she is reaping what she sowed.

This was my take on this as well, my best friend had a mishap with a hairbrush scratching her eye, (this was back in the early 80's when you wore the thickest, clumpiest mascara you could find). She couldn't wear any makeup, let alone mascara, for over a week while she applied a greasy antibacterial topical cream to it to heal it.

I thought she was dismissing the headstone because it came from the father, I'm thinking there were some issues between that poor boy's parents and grandma was probably at the heart of it. Her insistence that the girlfriend should place ANOTHER headstone on the grave makes me think grandma was a controlling witch who likely made unreasonable demands all the time, she certainly was not able to think rationally about a headstone, imagine what she was like about day-to-day decisions.

@Sun-Bun do not get behind my brother-in-law at a buffet, that man will take 3 or 4 healthy scoops of every dish, doesn't matter if it's the last scoop in the chafing dish, if it's food, he's taking it. He will then proceed to scarf it down like a hoover vacuum cleaner and go back for more, regardless of whether other people haven't had their first helping! You are me at a charity spaghetti dinner!! My god, it's spaghetti, sauce, meatballs, a salad and parm cheese, what are you staring at???????? There are no other choices!! What are you waiting for? Do you think it's going to turn into prime rib or french onion soup if you concentrate?? ARGH!! -

My pet peeve today, and every day, is the salad bar lookie loos who can't make a decision about what they want to put on their salad at my work cafeteria! Carrots or red peppers? Onions or chi-chi beans? Cukes or tomatoes? THE CHOICES! Not really, it's a small salad bar with pretty much the same items every day with a few items that change during the week. Good grief, I get 30 minutes for lunch, if you want stand and mull it over at least move a step back so I can get by to get what I want since making a salad for me is not an all-day project. And please do not glare at me when I dare to go around you because you are attempting to perfectly place that grape tomato at exactly the perfect spot on your pile of greens or pick out the precise broccoli floret that will make your salad picture perfect for FB. GAH!! -

My daughter and her boyfriend have been living together for 5 years, dating for 7, they called me 2 weeks ago to say they are getting married June 2nd, at a park with a JOP and a BBQ immediately after with ladder ball and horsehoes to play. They are very laid back people and hate all the formalities that come with weddings, I am over the moon excited! My Catholic as-all-get-out parents are a tad less enthused but I don't care, don't come if you don't like it, I'll be in a sundress and sandals sipping some champagne with a tear in my eye watching my daughter's wonderful day! -
He struck me as someone with dementia issues. I wondered if he was just one of those landlords who thinks he is entitled to dictate how his tenants live. He entered the property without their knowledge or permission while they were moving out which prompted them to call the police who told them to just leave it and get out. I would have left immediately too, he gave me the creeps.

This happens in my office! Sometimes 3 or 4 people standing in an average width hallway having a full-on meeting/deep conversation and have the nerve to give me the angry side eye when I excuse myself and proceed through, I want to scream "This isn't a conference room!" My pet peeve, kind of related: My fellow coworkers who have private conversations on their cell phones near my desk where I can hear every word, but I have to pretend I didn't so they're not embarrassed. What the heck people? Argue with your teenager about smoking pot/bad grades/cleaning their rooms somewhere else! -
I have friends who are wealthy and wouldn't have a clue, or a care, about that kind of stuff, as long as it works. They make me laugh, when I complain about my snowblower needing repair they ask why I don't just get a plow service, not that they are being snobbish, they truly don't understand because they don't have to deal with it.

Someone who doesn't want to have any discoverable assets. *cough*IRS*lawsuit*cough* Exactly what I thought as well...there's a reason he had his terminally ill wife open an account in her name only.....

I work with a woman whose brother was convicted of having his wife murdered (beaten to death in her home while her kids slept upstairs), even after a ton of evidence pointing to him as being the person who arranged the murder, she and the rest of her family still believe he is innocent. She took a leave of absence from work to attend every day of the trial and the family is paying for his appeal. She has the exact same affect as the Plaintiff on JJ yesterday, blank stare, no emotion, just states the fact as if the stoic demeanor will make others believe he's innocent as well. Scary.
