  1. Is that the scene where she eventually fell asleep with her head on her plate? Poor kid was just way overtired.
  2. I agree. I can almost understand Almanzo acting that way in general, simply because he was the husband and therefore in charge of making all the decisions in those days (like Pa deciding the family was going to move back to Wisconsin without even asking his wife), but the fact that he wasn't even making the decision, he was just letting his sister tell him what to do and expecting Laura to accept it without question makes me ragey.
  3. Laura was awful in the later seasons (and in this one - leaving your BABY alone in a tornado so that you can go get a cat that doesn't even live in the house and is smart enough to take care of itself? You'd think she would have learned something from Mary), but the rest of the family was awful to her, Ma and Pa included. I don't care how good their intentions were, don't lie about how her house is just fine like she's a child. It's her damn house!
  4. Same, I always skip it but my brain is fried tonight. And I laughed at the train guy inadvertently insulting Pa, too.
  5. The episode with Albert's pen pal is on. My husband asked what I was watching, and didn't believe me when I told him it was the catfishing episode of Little House. 😅
  6. The dungeon outside of town, full of all those kids, Dr. LeDoux, Tinker Jones ("You never miss a Sunday at church!" - except for every single other Sunday ever), and Mariette Hartley's china.
  7. I don't know what kind of LH marathon Hallmark was running today, but I tuned in for the end of Blizzard, which was immediately followed by Albert Gets the Fatal Nosebleeds.
  8. Plus, by Werewolf they seem to have completely forgotten how they solved the bully problem before - by collectively beating the crap out of the bully. I skip The Angry Heart, too. I feel so bad for the grandparents.
  9. I don't think he took advantage of her, especially because he'd only offered her $5 earlier. Charles said in front of Nels earlier that it was Laura's horse and it was up to her whether to sell or not. I agree that it seems weird he wouldn't have double-checked with Charles, but I chalk that up to the time, and perhaps Nels thinking that "country folk" do things differently.
  10. I forgot how much I love Harriet Oleson in Money Crop. She is really nice to the pregnant lady whose husband is missing, and kicks the mean guys off the mercantile steps with her broom. Nels is surprisingly indifferent.
  11. He was in Money Crop, too??? NO ONE WOULD LEAVE THE BABY. NO ONE.
  12. Plus I love how it makes it sound like they were two separate acts: first Albert threw away a pipe, then he went off and killed Alice and the baby.
  13. LH is on Peacock, and the episode description for A Harvest of Friends is making me laugh way more than it should: After promising to fix a store's roof and stack stacks of grain, Charles falls out of a tree.
  14. Today's random LH fact: I looked up the actress who played Elna Jacobsen in the 100 Mile Walk (the pregnant wife of one of Charles' work buddies -- not the one who got blown up), and learned that she played the elderly lady in The Green Mile having a romance with the older Paul, who was played by our very own Reverend Alden, Dabs Greer. Forget six degrees of Kevin Bacon, I'm convinced there's two degrees of Little House everywhere.
  15. The unluckiest man in Walnut Grove - his wife and son died twice, in two separate plagues. 😅
  16. It was Back to School, part 1, the episode where Almanzo and Eliza Jane first show up.
  17. I was about to say that I was outraged by that as a kid, but just thinking about it makes me mad now, too! 😅
  18. These continued for a long time. My mom went to a government Indian boarding school in the 30s-40s. The conditions were much better, but they did not teach or encourage the use of the tribal language, for example.
  19. I think that's true when she was older, but when they were little, Laura was always getting reprimanded for things that Mary got away with, like Mary being mean about Johnny Johnson, while Laura got scolded for saying bad things about Nellie. I also remember Mary smacking Laura's hand when Laura tried to touch Ma's dress material, and Ma and Pa just laughed like it was cute.
  20. I kinda get the rationale here, because it wasn't for a grade, it was a competition, and her trying to win the competition is why she almost burned down the barn. Not sure it was the best punishment, but it was focused on something that was important to Mary. I 100% get why that's what Ma said in the heat of the moment, but she could have reconsidered when she calmed down and had a talk with Mary about specifically why that was her punishment, or possibly changing it (not cancelling it).
  21. I watched the pilot recently (so well done!), and one of my favorite things in the whole series is tiny Laura telling Ma, "Mr. Edwards is teaching me how to spit!" in her little squeaky voice. Also, Charles mansplaining to Ma, "Make sure you don't get that lye in your eyes." Gee, thanks honey, I've only been making soap my entire life without blinding myself. Glad you're around, otherwise I would have stuck my face in the pot.
  22. They showed the kitchen a couple of times, including the episode where Laura thought Mr. Oleson cut off his wife's head -- he was cooking dinner and spilled sauce on his apron, and I think again when Charles and Mr. Olseon opened up the magical restaurant in the Olesons' house.
  23. Those times were where Harriet always showed a different side. I think it was the Blizzard episode where before there was even talk of needing supplies, Harriet told the men they were going to need warmer clothes, and they should go get them from the storeroom. She never had a problem taking care of the town in an emergency, at least.
