If the plot is bad, at least the location will be pretty!

Well, the lead actor is pretty cute, so that's a good start.

PC Is always worth watching. I mentioned before that this movie had a strange mood.  I first thought campy, but that’s not it. Still can’t identify it, almost dark in some ways. PC had no role in writing or even directing. Might have been better if he had. (I loved Starlight, and he plays a similar character here).

Paul Campbell is my Hallmark husband and I can watch him in (almost) anything - Sun Sand and Romance with the world's worst actress Tricia Helfer is an exception - and I agree that Christmas At Starlight is really good.  I think that movie confirmed for me what Wedding Every Weekend had started me thinking, that this guy is not only cute, but funny and charming and someone you could easily fall in love with.

I did enjoy The Cases of Mystery Lane.  I agree that it wasn't a standard, formulaic Hallmark movie, I guess that's the mystery genre.  I wasn't a fan of the glasses, but he was sweet and I could understand both why his wife was attracted to him, and why she was frustrated with him.  I would watch this as a series if Paul was a regular, but probably not if it were another generic Hallmark guy.

There is a promo for another upcoming movie with Erin Cahill.  What the hell?  Is she someone's daughter?  Does she have dirt on a Hallmark bigwig?  She is unequivocally unwatchable to me.  Fingers crossed she's never in a movie with Paul.

  2. I have never been a fan of Erin Krakow, but I watched a couple of seasons of When Calls the Heart and she didn't bug me that much.  However, watching The Wedding Cottage, I was really put off by her efforts to become this generation's Lucille Ball (as @Daff points out, nope.) When I saw her pick up the leafblower, I cringed because I knew I was going to hate it, which I did.

Brendan Penny is one of those guys that I like when I watch him, but he's never on my list of guys I want to watch and not enough to keep me watching a movie if I don't like the actress.

I think the comments were posted in the Mystery Movies thread, which I mostly avoided to prevent spoilers, but to me (and Canadians with no Hallmark networks) it's a tv movie, so I am just going to say that finally!!! the Paul Campbell movie is airing this weekend.  I don't even care if it's good, I'm just happy to see him in a movie.  Having said that, I am desperately hoping the female lead is watchable.

  3. I thought it was sweet when Carolyn and Carson were eliminated with Carolyn still wrapped up in the mud and a few players came over to help her.  Yam-Yam says, 'let's get you out of there.'  Just like you would to a toddler or a pet.

I have mixed feelings over Brandon being voted out.  He was the typical alpha-male athlete, in that he assumed he was in charge, things would go his way, and the wimmin would do what they're told in service of moving him ahead.  I also think he teamed up with Kane because he thought 2 big guys would probably win the challenge.  But, he was smokin' hot and I enjoyed looking at him.

Not to flog a dead horse (but going to anyway,) I always assumed the votes were stacked in a way that created the most drama.  It just seems really unlikely to me that once Danny played an idol, production yelled 'CUT' then rearranged the votes.  That would certainly send the message that something was up and probably blunt the effect of a blindside, even if they didn't know who would be screwed.  The way the votes came out, the only options were Franny or Brandon.  It seems like it would be easy enough in this situation to have Franny votes on one side of the bucket, and Brandon votes on the other.  Jeff would pull them out in the order that would create the most drama based on whether or not an idol was played.

  4. My vote for the most insipid, bland, meh movie of the season is The Professional Bridesmaid.  Even the things that would normally drive me crazy (everything about her job, the whole fake name/fake job business, the idea that the wedding of the daughter of the mayor of a small town would be of interest to anyone, never mind enough to have a reporter follow her around for a month, the fact the intrepid reporter would fixate on the condominium question like it was Watergate) faded into a fugue of boredom, given that the female actress was terrible and the male actor wasn't hot enough to get me to overlook everything.

  5. I couldn't get past the fact the lead actor didn't look old enough to order a drink, never mind go to med school, practice for a while and then decide medicine wasn't for him.  I can't make a handsome/not handsome decision about an actor who looks like he should be in college (or the senior year of high school.)  The Maldives were beautiful and I like Merritt Patterson, but I couldn't get into this one.

Brandon really took one for the tribe when he had to do the second round of jump/swim/walk the balance beam.  He looked exhausted.

    But also incredibly freaking hot.

  7. I'm not sure I made it 30 minutes.  The hair was ridiculous but she's a bitch!  I know I'm a broken record, but why oh why does Hallmark have to make everyone a bitch before they start to soften?  No way is anyone interested in that.  She's pretty but not out of this world gorgeous and I don't believe for a second that any guy is up for that sort of abuse.  My frustration made me turn to the time-shift channel which was carrying the road-trip movie (whose title I don't know and whose actors I have never seen) and it was the same thing.  A guy volunteered to drive out of his way to deliver her to Nebraska, but she was such a bitch to him that I can't believe he didn't change his mind and tell her to take the bus.

I don't know when the Paul Campbell movie will play here.  I'm sure I'll check it out though.  At least it will have him, which is more than pretty much any other movie has had this year.

Hope the Dorky Duo have had their road trip by now or better yet, how about a run on THE AMAZING RACE for the ultimate road trip?

    Please, no.

Matthew making a fake idol and his closest ally finding it? Big yikes to Matthew being PROUD about it. Matthew isn't as good of a player as he thinks he is. Even if the fake idol play is fine, he has to realize that the wrong person found it.

I thought he basically directed her right to it.  They were looking for worms or something and didn't he tell her to look around there because the ground was damp (or had been moved, or something.)

Speaking of background music, I was dying during the "Oh, Canada!" scene.  Kane gave it his all, and the sound editing team was right behind him.  That was a nice moment.  We did get to see some tribe bonding moments last night, and that was nice.

It would have been a much nicer moment if he had sung the correct lyrics.  I'm not interested in arguing the politics of it, but the lyrics to O Canada are, 'our home and native land.'  Not sacred land.

Usually I roll my eyes at beachmances, but for whatever reason I hope Matt and (Connie?) make it and are the geeky counterpart to the Marianos.

As long as they don't keep bringing them back as players until they win, then ruin Amazing Race for me, then bring them back as mentors for several seasons.

And oh my, the hair is just SO BAD.  He is truly one of the best-looking guys around, but this look is not good at all!

He has beautiful hair normally.  I'm not sure why they thought this was a good look.  I am convinced that Tyler Hynes got plugs and his ever-changing hairstyle is an effort to either hide the plugs or find a flattering style going forward, but I don't think that's the case for Kris - just a bad decision.

But I did DVR it, so I'll FF through for the Antonio Cupo parts and then get rid of it

It will be a short watch for you.  Maybe 5 minutes tops. I think he's actually only in 2 scenes (or maybe3.)

And never if the movie stars Luke McFarlane or Erin Cahill.

Couldn't agree more.  Luke has no hetero-chemistry, and Erin is a vortex of suck.  There are many actresses I don't like, but she is one of the few that I actually cannot watch under any circumstances, regardless of her co-star.  God help me if she makes a movie with Paul Campbell or Travis Van Winkle.

Maybe they were trying to make him look younger, but it does not work.

I thought he looked like a worn out 40 year old whose alarm didn't go off and he had to run out of the house before washing his face or combing his hair.

Oh, I thought Antonio Cupo's small bits were fun.  I wish he had been the love guru because him selling the "possible" with the heart hands was golden.

This would have been so amazing!  It would have made for a much better movie.

I really like Kimberley Sustad, especially with Paul Campbell, but her character is often the person who is overwhelmed with work, prone to bitching about it, but when offered help will say, 'oh, no it's ok, you don't have to help, I can do it.'

Yes, yes I did.  Just a week ago.  (My apologies for quoting myself.)  I am starting to wonder if Hallmark actually hates Kimberley and that's why every freaking movie she is in, they make her the same person.  Even after her team came together to create a great game, when it was inexplicably cancelled and her teammate asked how she could help, she still says, 'no, I'll do it myself.'  Maybe she's like that in real life.  I guess they think it makes her look like a strong, independent, capable woman, but it makes me think there's a reason why she's single.

I watched the whole movie, but I won't likely watch it again.  I did notice the multiple coats, but as a counterpoint, she wore those stupid Converse hightops in every scene.

Fellow Antonio Cupo fans: He doesn’t show up on IMDB, but I  caught part of a preview last night of tonight’s Game of Love with Kimberley Sustad, and he was in it.

I thought the same thing when I saw him.  It's been too long and he really should be in more movies.  I was already leaning in because I like Brooks Darnell and Kimberley Sustad is generally pretty good, so fingers crossed for the first good movie since Christmas, in my opinion.

and can I just say how refreshing it is that Hallmark movies seem to have more realism compared to past movies.

It's funny you should say this because the movie I watched last night (10 Truths about Love) felt like they took a movie from 10 years ago and re-cast it.  Fretting about what to wear to your engagement dinner then having your boyfriend break up with you?  Done.  Being inexplicably rude to someone who ends up being your co-worker?  Done.  He's an author but gave it up because of a bad review?  Done.  And that's just the first 10 minutes.  Truth told, I didn't hate it, which is more than I can say for, I think, every movie since Countdown to Christmas was over.

I mean, I know some Ariana Grande songs, but not that particular one.

On the other hand, the only Ariana Grande song I know is that one, and even that was a wild guess.

Not that it matters, but I disagree that Mayim knows the answers but is only trying to create drama.  If she said, 'your response is.......correct!' then maybe I might think she's trying to create a pause, but when the contestant answers, there is no sound at all, then 'correct.'  She might have the answers in front of her, but she's losing her place and taking time to find it again.  No way do I think she knows any of these answers.

I don't understand what this tournament is all about but at least most of the players have been likeable (except for Friday's champ) so I guess I'll keep watching.

  17. I'm watching Moonlight In Vermont, despite it starring Lacey Chabert.  It does have Carlo Marks, who I like.  It is certainly true that I have never been to Vermont in the winter, but I'm pretty sure it is not sunny and bright at 'not even 6am.'  In fact, I'd be surprised it it's that light at 6am on June 21.

  18. What I find so frustrating about this tournament is that Mayim clearly has no idea of the answer to so many of the clues.  Even the no-brainers.  The pause before she says, 'correct' (she must be waiting for someone in her ear to say it's correct, or she has to take a few seconds to refer to her cheat sheet) must drive the players insane.
