  1. But about 15 minutes before the end of the movie, Rachel/Rebecca sees the Prince kiss the hand of another pretty Jewish girl and assumes this must be the love of his life.  She immediately breaks off plans for the latke exchange and leaves the small town to go back home to NYC.  Prince finds out after she has already left, follows her to NYC, and explains that the girl is actually his cousin who lives in a nearby small town who only came to Rebecca's town for the latke exchange and encouraged him to 'go after her.'  He proposes under the menorah.  Fast forward a year later to the giant wedding in the fictional European country.

  2. Just watched A Timeless Christmas and it was terrible.  Even Ryan Paevey, whom I normally like, wasn't particularly compelling.

Am I wrong, but in order to have 2 full moons in the same month, wouldn't the second one need to be at least the 29th of the month?  This movie had a Christmas Moon on Dec 18, 1903 and on Dec. 22 or 23, 2020.

A Christmas House is just starting but the reviews on here have not been stellar so not sure if I will stick it out.

  3. Kariyake, you could be right but I would be surprised to find that Elton John felt like he needed more exposure.

You hear Rocket Man when you see the Rakuten commercial.  I will forever hear the Rakuten commercial whenever Rocket Man, a beautiful song, comes on the radio.  It is ruined for me now.

I don’t know if Elton John owns the rights to his own music because at one time, a lot of singers were selling their portfolios to record companies for huge sums of money, and he might have done that.

It has been years, but I did once see an interview with Elton John where he laughed at the rumours of his being broke, and he mentioned that he owned his own publishing so he didn't need to ever worry about money.  Of course that could have changed.  I just wonder if he ever hears, "I shopped for jeans online, last night.  And body wash, just for men" and thinks the money wasn't worth it.

  5. I find Vanessa Lachey always comes across as bitchy when I think they are aiming for witty.  Their 'snappy comebacks' always make her look rude and unlikeable.  Tried watching A Twist of Christmas.  The guy was a jerk for cutting in line and she put him in his place.  Fine.  But then when the toys were switched, all of a sudden it was ok to stand outside what was clearly an important meeting and make faces at him until he came out.  Then when they were driving in the same car with the kids in the back, she just kept it up until I finally turned the channel.

I agree with Kaoteek.  I'm not going to sit through half an hour of unreasonable bitchiness in the hopes that it might get better.

  6. Agreed.  I think it's because she seems vulnerable, and approachable.  She does something crazy and allows herself to look foolish without all the drama.  I also like that actor, as he seems to be more sarcastic than some and there is an enjoyable give and take with their banter whereas so many duets seem like she says something bitchy to him and he just takes it and keeps coming back for more.

  7. Come sit by me, ctlady.  I don't really have an opinion on Allison Sweeney but dislike all the other actors except Richard Thomas, who will always be John-Boy.  Danica McKellar will always be the shrew who broke up with a guy because she missed her kid's soccer practice.  Not game, not championship series, but practice.  Never mind she didn't write it, she should have refused to act it out.

  8. Agreed about Catherine Bell's face.  How can they not know how bad this looks?  It's like the Jennifer Aniston commercial where she asks the scientist if Aveeno can do (something) but the Botox is so obvious I can't even concentrate on the facewash.

Currently watching A Twist of Christmas.  I guess it's perfectly ok to stand outside what appears to be a very important meeting and make faces at the guy running it, as long as you have a toy you need to switch.  God forbid you wait in the waiting room until the meeting is over.  And, half an hour in, deciding to change the channel because this is another example of intractable, unpleasant woman who is in the wrong but won't stop being a bitch.

  9. Just watched The Angel Tree.  It left me cold.  I really dislike the lead actress and the lead actor didn't appeal to me enough to make me care.  Plus, the storyline was stupid.  A generous philanthropist wishes to remain anonymous but too bad, she's going to find out who it is and write an article about it because she's a reporter.

I also really hate the jeans she wears.  I was almost thinking the show took place in the 90s.

  10. Agreed.  I enjoyed the movie overall, but it was clearly obvious who was going to be 'Bea Turner.'  Also stupid things that are supposed to drive the story but are so dumb that they take me out of it.  For example, the grandfather.  Why do we have to call the handyman 'Mr. Walters' and not just Walter?  Would it be unheard of for the owner's father to be the handyman at a family run business?  And why can't he go into town?  If he's the handyman at a local B&B, it's not inconceivable that people from the town would know him.

I don't dislike Joy Lenz but she is one of the actresses that embodies my rant from up above (bitchy all the time for no reason, why do guys go for that.)  She comes off as shrill and intractable.

I just sat through it and Catherine Bell's character remains bitchy throughout.

This is my complaint about most of the movies.  Never mind the million tropes, but I'm sorry, no guy who looks like any of these guys is going to keep letting these women treat them so badly and rudely, and keep coming back.  There are lots of women in those tiny little towns who are not bitchy 24/7 and there is nothing remotely intriguing or beguiling about the women (that the man has seen to this point) that would make the men hang around.  And don't get me started on hearing half of a conversation, or seeing the man hug a woman who turns out to be his sister, then immediately packing up, leaving town, and abandoning the Christmas pageant that you promised the widower's kids you would attend.

They have scheduled two weeks of reruns beginning December 21 and have moved Alex’s final week of shows to the week of January 4th.

This is probably better because many people will be too busy to watch or remember to watch on Christmas, though I had visions of crying in front of my whole family.

Not a fan of Ken Jennings and while I will watch his 2 weeks (or whatever) of guest hosting shows, if he is named the permanent replacement I will probably stop watching.  Though given the cancellers have found a couple of problematic tweets, this could be up in the air.

Speaking of Eswar and Aparna, if I were them, I'd be really disappointed in my edit. They haven't been shown to be good at anything in particular, and all we know about them is that they grew up watching the race and that they're engineers who studied at Cal. We don't even get to see them interact with the other teams all that much. It feels like the editors don't want anyone to root for them, but can't show us any footage to make us hate them because it doesn't exist.

What I know about them is that the girl told us in her into that they were 'really f* smart' so watching them unable to do anything has sent my schadenfreude off the charts.

I'm not even watching any more. This episode has finished me. I broke up with Survivor years ago because of shits like Will and James who can't stop congratulating themselves on how shitty they are, and lunkhead jocks who think they're all that like the beards. I can see why this godforsaken season stayed in the can for so long. I'd have burned it and denied everything.

    Table for two.

  14. Tuned out at the halfway mark when every single team came out of their yurt to tell the sisters to yield the nerds.  Why do they care which of the  last two teams are eliminated?  Weren't they all just that morning saying that finally the blondes were out? It just seemed personal at that point.  I can't imagine how it would feel to know that every single team wanted me out, especially when there's no particular reason for it.

  15. It may be for the Canadian Nordstrom's, but I'm not sure if the chick singing 'How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)' is like the Dove women - we're all natural non-professional women and love ourselves as we are! - or if she's actually a professional singer and I'm the only person who thinks her voice is horrible.  It's gonna be a long haul until Christmas if I have to keep hearing that nails on a chalkboard squawking.

I know it's a couple pages back, but I can't agree enough with the comments about Amy Schumer and her tampon commercial.  I think what I hate the most about it, aside from us pretending that she would be a really friendly stranger just helping out a poor girl in the bathroom, is the fact that during the movie Trainwreck, she goes into this giant rant about taking out a tampon at a guy's house.  Not just any tampon, but ... and then she goes on a tear that is every bit as gross as you would expect from her, but it goes on and on and on.  To the point where I took back the benefit of the doubt I had given her and turned the channel.

Not sure why Aparna was struggling so. Speaking of her...she hasn't really developed any clear personality.

Well, in the first episode, she told us they were 'really f* smart.'  That's as much personality as I need from her and allowed me to laugh at her cluelessness.

Didn't like the beards telling everyone in the cream challenge except the nerds about the pie throwers because they 'had an alliance.'  It just seemed so petty, especially since it really didn't help anyone.

Watching the boyfriends get their asses in a knot because a team that they not only U-turned, but openly and rudely conspired against, didn't provide enough empathy when helping them up the ramp, is the kind of thing that ruins the show for me.  They are so unlikeable that I don't really want to watch them anymore.  Which probably means they'll win.

Truly, at one point she had on one of the most unattractive pairs of jeans I've ever seen in my life. They were so hideous it took me out of the movie for a second - someone who has such a gorgeous house in Santa Monica can afford a decent pair of jeans!

Agreed! I noticed that as well.

and the incredible sobbing/typing scene...so hilarious!)

Have to say this is one scene in the movie that I skip over whenever I watch, which I'm not embarrassed to say, is semi-regularly.  Jack Nicholson makes almost anything watchable.

Didn't she have a nude scene in that movie?

Yes, and if you watch the non-network TV version, it's fairly explicit.  She looks great, though.

I find Hanoi Jane pretty unwatchable these days but really enjoyed the scenes with Candice Bergen, especially her dating scenes.  Richard Dreyfuss climbing out of the back of the car was the most hilarious scene in the movie.  And Craig T. Nelson talking to the cop with his Viagra boner was pretty funny too.

  18. Interesting to come here for the first time and see Matt Lauer's name as a suggested replacement.  Quite shocking until I noticed the comments were from 2014.  Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

I have watched Jeopardy pretty much daily since the beginning and watched quite a few episodes of Art Fleming.  Yes, I'm old.  I will stop watching if Ken Jennings is made host, as I find him rude and smug on his Twitter feed, and I agree with Bastet that he is not nearly as amusing as he thinks he is.

  19. I will also be out if Ken Jennings takes over.  After watching pretty much every single episode since Alex hosted, plus many back in the days of Art Fleming.

I understand that I tend to be in the minority of forum posters as well as Hollywood types in that I am conservative. I don't understand why stars can't keep their opinions to themselves.  We KNOW they are all liberals (and don't care one way or the other) but honestly, it's just a quiz show.  Nobody cares about their opinions and we certainly don't need to be reminded that they think we're morons.  I have read enough rude, smug Twitter comments from Ken Jennings to know that I will not watch him.  We get it Ken, you're at the cool kids table for the first time in your life, but remember, conservatives watch TV too.

  20. Glad to see I'm not in the minority in not particularly liking Tony, but thinking nobody else deserved to win.

Such high hopes, only to find the season a disappointment almost from the beginning, and no doubt about who was going to win since about halfway through the season.

My take on the 'what this season meant to me' talking heads was that this was a final goodbye for this crew.  In other words, we won't be bringing any of them back again and therefore, farewell.  (from my lips to God's ears)

And 'yes' 1000x to the comments about old, fat, bitter, bullying Rob Mariano

Still so disappointed that Rob and the other old schoolers didn’t get a chance to play this season.

I have never been a fan of Rob, and that was reinforced last night when they showed the clips of the 'buddy system' where they inexplicably listened to Rob and sat in the playpen all day, and also when he bullied them into emptying their bags at tribal.

That's the only way Rob could win, and I don't think I'd be up for another season of that.

I’m sorry that she felt she was a bottom tier player. I thought she was playing a great game... up until someone else also caught wind that she was playing a great game.

Her acting like a high-schooler by calling the others in her alliance into a circle to discuss their options no doubt turned some of the attention on her and I would argue that was not a great move.

  23. Rob during the coconut challenge:  'I don't want to look too strong so I think I'll hang back.'  OK Rob

It's as if the powers that be heard us complain last week about the whispering because even though it still happened, at least we got subtitles for most of the conversations.  Having said that, I am not at all impressed that they were allowed to continue talking about whether or not to play advantages, after the votes were cast.
