My understanding was that they believed Beecham killed the Dury family because Beecham lived in the same town. They were only trying to find out more about the Dury murders, to see if they could have been committed by Beecham and not Indians. It wasn't until the guys started talking to his brother, and Sara talking to the sheriff, that they discovered that Beecham was actually Japheth.

Do we know who the guy is that followed John and Laszlo and shot at them, and who he's working for? Was it the same guy that drugged John and helped bring him to JP Morgan's place? And was he trying to kill them or just scare them?

I thought there were some better prospects tonight compared to last night. I really liked shy, country boy, Laine. I thought he sounded like Ryan Bingham, and actually looked a bit like him too!

We've seen Esther a few times. She and Marcus met at a rally, and had sex. Then they were shown having sex again later, right next to another sleeping woman and a baby, who I guess we now know is Esther's baby. She also had dinner with Marcus, Lucius, and their mother. The killer took the name of his molester, Beecham.

Wow, I did not see that coming. Should have guessed it since Laszlo was so happy, and no one can seem to be happy for too long on this show. I bet Laszlo goes right back to how he was before. Emotionally closed off. I loved that Mary grabbed the knife and went after Connor when she could have ran out of the house. Although in the end, it wasn't a smart move. John is too pure for this world. Him thinking that Laszlo was in love with Sara, but being a total stand up guy about it was great. I wonder if he'll ever actually find out what really happened between them though? I loved all the new sets and scenery in this episode. So cinematic! And they had some really good guest stars too. I can't believe there are only 2 episodes left!

The Frankenstein Chronicles - General Discussion
pezgirl7 replied to Meredith Quill's topic in The Frankenstein Chronicles
I just finished binge watching this on Netflix. I definitely liked season one better. The second season didn't have a very strong plot. I actually found the storyline with Mr. Dipple and his automatons the most interesting. And I was hoping he and Esther would get together, but then he basically lied to her, telling her if she "died" she would be able to see her son, but really he just wanted a Bride of Frankenstein to keep him company. I'm very confused about Dipple though. He said he's lived longer than any other man, but I thought his father was Dr. Hervey's teacher, so he shouldn't be that old. And did he actually die, or was he just taking some kind of tonic to make him live longer? Since he could also see dead people, I'm guessing he must have died at some point too. Maybe both he and his father had been "alive" for a long time. But then was that woman really his sister? I also read somewhere else that he is going to die now since he has no more potion, but I thought he had the formula for it written down. Also, what did the numbers on the bottles mean? They were around the 1700s. If they're numbered for how many days he's been taking it, that's only over 4 years. But if he only has to drink a bottle once a month, then that means he's been drinking it for 141 years. So many questions! I thought the show did a great job of showing the horrible conditions that poor people lived in back then. So much dirt and filth, and the fact that an early death was pretty much a way of life. -
Unfortunately, spoilertv.com has it at the top of its list of shows likely to be canceled. :(

Hmm, interesting. I didn't get that impression at all. John is his best friend, so I think she should have flat out told him what Laszlo did to her. They could commiserate on what a jerk he is. I think Sara has zero experience with men, and doesn't really know what she wants. I think for a hot second, Sara might have been interested in Laszlo, but that quickly went away when he wasn't respecting her opinions. I think she likes John as a friend, and because she seems to have no family, just wanted a shoulder to cry on. Perhaps romantic feelings will develop for John, but I really do think she has no romantic interests in Laszlo at this point. Also, her name is spelled Sara in the book. Most people on here seem to write Sarah, which I don't really have a problem with since that's how I spell my name. :) But I get annoyed when people spell my name without an H, so I guess I'm trying to respect a fictional character by spelling her name correctly? lol

I am going to make a bold prediction and say none! There's only so much they can torture a character without it becoming ridiculous.

Just watched this. So glad that John's line "Women have been yammering on about the right to vote for decades." was cut from the final version! And that shot of Teddy with his daughters was cute!

He was in the very first episode, when we were first introduced to Laszlo. His parents brought him to the doctor because he likes to start fires, and is a bedwetter. Yea, that was sweet! I was also wondering if John had hoped to see Joseph there. Maybe to check up on him, especially after what happened to Rosie. You could see that Rosie's death affected Marcus. That was the first time we saw Marcus really see the victims as something more than just a dead body.

I don't think he's dumb. He just gets drunk and then does dumb things. Not really the same thing. Hopefully he's learned his lesson by now though. Alcohol = bad. Stick to lemonade and egg creams.

Moore: Spirits copulate?

I think it's simply because he believes having a murderer running around town is bad for business. He said NYC is poised to be an ecomic powerhouse, but that can only happen with compliant workers. And the murders are causing civil unrest. I also just realized how emasculated John must have felt in this episode. The brothel owner makes a quip about the night he got drugged, JP Morgan offers him a lemonade, and then Laszlo tells him Sara will always just see him as indolent. No wonder he went back to drinking, and was watching guys beat each other up for sport.
-
I'm glad that Laszlo is trying to better the relationships in his life. Well, except with John. And John's so sensitive, Laszlo telling him that Sara will never have feelings for him made John go right back to the bottle. And Laszlo ends the episode with Mary, while poor John is drunk and beat up in an alley. Can he please stop being put through the wringer? :( At least he had a nice scene with Sara. She tries to be tough, but sometimes you just need a hug. :) And she really does seem pretty alone in this world. Sara really is doing a lot of the heavy lifting in the investigation. We're finally getting somewhere! So I'm assuming the killer is a former soldier who saw people get massacred, but I wonder why his victims are children? And more specifically boys dressed as girls. I can't quite put the puzzle together yet, which definitely makes the show more compelling! And getting back to the ending scene, it was sweet and hot at the same time! I wouldn't be surprised if Laszlo is a virgin. Daniel said in an interview he has no experience with women. You could see how much he was craving the physical intimacy.

I watched episode 5 again, when he comes to this conclusion, and he only says that the choir boys in the church that Willem grew up in are a far cry from the boys being murdered. And because he thinks that the killer is from the same social class as the boys being murdered, that would rule out Willem. I didn't hear anything where he said that Willem only liked the choir boy type.
-
I think he just wanted revenge on Willem because if it weren't for him, he wouldn't have lost his job. Willem's parents were paying the dirty cops, including Connor I'm assuming, to protect Willem, and Connor got fired because Roosevelt figured that out.
-
I thought the thing that clued Laszlo in that Willem wasn't the killer is that the killer is picking boys from the same social class that the killer is from. So that would rule out Willem.
-
My theory is that Willem was the only one with the silver smile, and is a red herring, and didn't murder anyone. Sally only said that Gloria had a rich client with a silver smile who was with him the night he died, but that doesn't mean he's the killer. We later learned the killer snuck in through the window, so no one saw him. I think it's just a coincidence that the killer also has some kind of discerning facial feature. Ali asked the killer what was wrong with his mouth. Not teeth, but mouth.

The Curse Of Oak Island - General Discussion
pezgirl7 replied to Meredith Quill's topic in The Curse Of Oak Island
I think the backside of it is flat. In the preview for next week, Gary said he took it to a gemologist and... -
I understand Sara being annoyed at being called the weaker sex, but her being involved in the sting would have been a bad idea. A woman of her status wouldn't have been hanging out in that part of town, let alone inside a brothel, so she definitely could have tipped everyone off that something was going on. I suppose she could have hung out on the rooftop. What I don't understand is why some of the guys were in plain sight when the killer knows what they look like. They were lucky the killer didn't notice them as soon as he walked into the brothel.

I actually thought John looked the most uncomfortable. Marcus didn't look uncomfortable at all, and seems to treats all the boys as just regular kids that are slightly annoying. I liked him interacting with that younger boy though, and that poem/joke he told... omg. I want John to adopt all the boys, especially Joseph. :) Their scenes together were cute and heartwarming. I loved Joseph telling John that he thought it was dumb that people paid money for drawings, but then later inquired about it some more. I have no idea what other jobs were available for children so young, but I hope John can somehow help him. Does anyone know what boy was murdered in this episode? My friend thought it was Joseph, but it didn't look like him to me. I'm holding out hope that he stays alive the entire show, but I'm also preparing for the worst. We saw the killer in the first or second episode, in what looked like a barn, and he had a bunch of tools. So it makes sense that his fingernails would be dirty. Stevie looked super creeped out at the sight of him, so hopefully we get a description of him next episode. So John quit drinking, and then buys a typewriter. Could he be anymore obvious?
-
I have a feeling that the killer is actually older than Willem, or at least they're around the same age. Per the handwriting expert, I think they said he would be no older than 35. Also, the group seems to think something happened to the killer when he was a child, to make him act out the way he is. So Willem would have been a child too. I think Willem is just a red herring. He seems to be interested in the boys for sex, while the killer wants to kill and eat them. Ugh, did I just type that?

Yes to your entire post! I was just talking to a friend about this, and she disagreed with me, so I'm glad that I'm not the only one who feels this way. Like you said, she's pretty good at the emotional scenes, but many times it just sounds like she's reciting dialogue without actually thinking about what she's saying or delivering it a natural manner. Even her very first scene where she stands up and says "John Moore!" just seemed so unnatural. And then in the scene where she's talking about mutton shunters to John outside the brothel, it was like she had to memorize this incredibly hard dialogue, and was just trying to get through it as quickly as possible.

I know they're all doing it on purpose because I guess that's how upperclass New Yorkers spoke back then, but sometimes it really annoys me. Especially when Dakota says it because it sounds even more pronounced and intentional, not natural.
