  1. The problem here is that the article ignores the fact that the show’s ratings were in decline with CH.  it has little to do with his firing.  It has to do with the fact that it has become so repetitive and predictable that it is boring.  It had declined according to the article from over 20m to over 5 with
    CH.  it’s not the host.

Christina wasn't even really mean, just drunk and annoying.

Not "really mean," but bare steps away. She's a practiced manipulator and the type that plays the victim

I think she could have survived except for her reaction to Charity’s rose.  That indicated a genuine indifference to the feelings of others.  Of course she was supposed to pretend to be happy for Charity—just like all the rest of them pretended.  But she couldn’t muster that simple sociability.  There was no way he could ignore that.

  3. I thought this was pretty fabulous honestly.  The casting was great with the exception of Morticia and Gomez.  And i thought the characters were great with the exception of Morticia and Gomez.  And i think that was the most interesting Thing i have ever seen.

Jenna Ortega was terrific as everyone says.  I’d watch her in almost anything.  But i also thought Wednesday was well written.  She really didn’t understand the rules of the game but was so sharp that she was able to cut herself through.  Sure it was a bit tropey but what the hell.

And I didn’t really get Harry Potter vibes.  This was a darker version of high school is Hell from Buffy.  But in fact Wednesday wasn’t a chosen one—she was instead manipulated even before she got there and triumphed only because of her frenemies and because she didn’t care who got in her way.  And a good deal of it was funny.

the other thing is that I didn’t mind Fred Armison in a role.  That’s a first.

Didn't the baby have red hair? I thought Elora was going to be red-haired girl.

I think Ellie Bamber may have red hair in real life.  Maybe it will change.

I thought her first pick was Bartise until he shot her down.

My recollection was that was a preemptive rejection on his part.  She had shown that she was tuning him out and he didn't want to give her the chance to say no.

It's interesting (although possibly producer shenanigans) that while Bartise kept going on and on about Raven afterwards, she doesn't seem to have given him a second thought.

  6. I'm not sure how to adjudicate the "you can't book"/"are you bi-polar" dispute but clearly these two should not get married.  Even if they were not fighting there is too much baggage there.  On Cole's side I would want to meet the parents (no not the movie).  I think that he is trying but he has no real sense of how what he does effects others and I wonder where that comes from.  But Zanab is just as bad.  She lost me at the picking out the dress episode.  There, instead of joining in the festivities and enjoying the fact that her step-mother (or aunt I was never sure) was there for her as she has been for years, it became about her mother not being there.  I get that.  But that can't be the only thing and she often reverts to the default depressed mode. and then she is upset.

So he has little emotional sensitivity and she has little capacity to let go of things.  It's the Titanic waiting to happen.

  7. I actually wonder if this show hasn’t finally collapsed under the weight of its own contradictions.  They tried to create a no holds barred version of the mothership but it couldn’t work for as long.  The year that they realized that they had to cut back on drinking was the sign.  All the alcohol helps the producers on the main show because it leads to conflict with the contestants; in BIP it led to harrasment and violence.  Then you get the constant recycling of people who already recycle themselves elsewhere in Bachelor Nation.  Was their a single moment of spontaneity this season—with the possibility exception of Lace’s ill fated trip to find Rodney?  And even that was probably producer driven.

When you think that people want to listen to Wells’ Story Time you know you are in trouble.

  8. TPTB clearly need to be reminded of the old wisdom that if you draw from the wells too much it will run out of water.

What i really don’t understand about these contestants is that they all know what happens in editing.  Yet they still behave as if what happens in paradise stays in paradise.  It’s not just Kate who now couldn’t get cast as Cruella Deville.  But couldn’t Shanae have told Toddler1 that she really just wanted to hang out? Did Johnny really need to make absolutely no sense on camera? I’m no fan of Victoria but wouldn’t you try to get Han Solo to get you off the planet if you were faced with that?

i think Jesse is different than CH because he isn’t a producer.  CH had a lot of power.  Jesse has to watch Wells make us all hope for a power outage.

What the heck happened to Alex?  I feel like I missed the episode where he went home.

You probably didn’t miss an episode, just blinked.  Once Victoria decided to stay with James he went back to the nothingness of bachelor nation in waiting.

  10. I'm a bit confused about where we are now.  I thought that this week was the finale and next week the reunion.  But don't we need them to bring in more men so that Kate can cruelly decide that Logan isn't up to her standards?  Does anyone know the schedule?  How long is our long national nightmare going to continue?

Shanae is stunningly gorgeous with her cheekbones, catlike blue green eyes and wavy blonde hair- and for Logan to pick Kate with her grating voice, lank hair extensions and narrow face- I was shocked! Kate's nice looking in her own right, but Shanae is easily one of the prettiest/hottest girls on the island.

I'm going to have to dissent on the Shanae love (sorry).  Yes she is more attractive than Kate.  But if you bracket out everything we have learned about personality (which you have to with Shanae) I think that there have been plenty of more attractive women on the beach this year: Brittany, Danielle, Eliza, Serene, Genevieve (remembering I am bracketing out personality), maybe Sarah.  And those are just considering the women who are there now.  If you went back and included Hunter and Sierra for example the list gets longer.

Shanae has a typical dating show look I think.  And that gives her a lot of confidence.  But really in the end?  She is pretty.  I just don't think that she is as interesting as many of the others who have something less commercial actress going on.

They do the same thing on Love Island and the girls leave their villa too for a few days.

I'm pretty sure that I have seen at least one Love Island where the guys moved.  You notice that on Love Island they never refer to the guys as "the gentlemen."

I think they were trying the twist to see if it would make it more interesting, but as usual their cast is dull as dishwater, so it didn't work, lol.  I agree with you.  I also think they will have to do something different to keep it going as it has lost a lot of momentum over the years.  So they will try something else to keep it alive.

I agree.  The whole point of the twist was to create conflict and drama at the reunions.  Since neither of them would do that by escorting one of the “girls” back there was no point as part of the producers strategy to create as much angst as possible.

So, the season hasn’t finished airing and only Michael and Danielle and Brandon and Serene are still together, and the show hasn’t even finished airing… not a successful season.  There are still 2 engaged couples (3 if you count Becca and Thomas who got back together after the show and one more couple, who also reunited after the show, still dating from the previous season still together.

Honest question: do you really think that the producers think of success as having couples stay together on this show?  They go out of their way to make it difficult.  And back when it was fun there was little expectation.  I take all of the official comments about love as basically being said with implicit eyerolls.

I agree on all counts.  I'm especially sympathetic to Lace.  She has behaved relatively well this round and she has clearly been through a ringer of her own devising.  I'm uncomfortable with how relentlessly she is being demonized and mocked, particularly by Wells,  especially since she is older and practically a monster by the ridiculously ageist standards of this show.  I was happy when Rodney chose her, and I'm equally happy for him now.

Wells seems to have forgotten that, really, his biggest claim to fame is that he married someone.

So, from the previews, they're totally copying the Casa Amor temptation thing from Love Island but only for the men?  What kind of bullshit is that?

It's BIP.  That's the kind of bullshit it is.

But it also explains why they haven't been having women come to the beach outside of Salley who they arranged to have driven off by the ritual ostracism.  They have been building up the anxiety of their being all of these men who won't survive and given the women a sense of power and now they will pull the rug out from under them.  Let the anxiety and crises begin!

  17. I wonder if Genevieve will ever realize that coming on this show was a huge mistake.  After the bachelor she still had some mystery.  Not to mention respect from realizing Clay’N wasn’t for her.  But now that she has joined Shanae in the BIP police she looks bad.

I also think we need to recognize that wells set salley up.  It was moderately funny when he did his routine the first time.  But repeating it right when she arrived was asking the forces of Mordor to attack.
