They showed several dead demons and blackbloods, the explosion went all the way to the gates of the Outpost before it stopped.

Yes but Talon didn't blow them up.  It's not as if the cause would be obvious.

That said am I the only one who yawned at the ending.  The complete stilted quality of the acting and predictability of the betrayal just seemed so drab to me.  I kept hoping there would be something new and different.

I’m sure that definitely sped things up, but once Jade and Tanner happened I think this was the show’s (unfortunate) destiny. Now Harrison’s goal is to just keep adding to the list of couples that have made it from this show, “Jade and Tanner. Carly and Evan. Ashley and Jared...”

I used to watch a lot of reality shows, and I’ve noticed the first couple seasons are loose, strange, fun, interesting, and bizarre. They’re what hook us originally. But once producers find a hook for the show they become more and more scripted and the contestants just want to be on TV, so they’ll follow whatever narrative the show wants. This season was awful, but it was also infinitely easier to film than prior seasons. Producers had this whole season figured out before the first contestant showed up. I’m sure there was some room for couples to break up/get together, but nothing was going to be a surprise. Blake and Stagecoach was going to start, Demi’s “relationship” was going to follow, then Caelyn and Dean would have their shit go down. This was set up to have content evenly spread out over 21 days, no dead spots, and no “good” footage wasted because other storylines were more important. Just following people around for 21 days and hoping you catch stuff is too risky for ABC. And signs are that ratings are up, which justifies the process.

You may be right and I certainly agree with your notion that at a certain point the shows start repeating themselves both because the producers want it and because the characters start playing roles.  But the particular story line is more contingent.  All of your spot on plot lines could happen without the engagement fetish.   But then it would just be “another reality show.”  Harrison on BIP is just a smoother version of Pastor Cal on Married at First Sight.

  3. The more I think about this season, and yes I'm aware of how depressing it is that I'm thinking about this season, the more I'm convinced that BIP's descent into 21 Day Fiancee and all the various efforts to make us think that this is about true love are related to the controversy around Corrine and Demario.  At first it looked like ABC was going to have to close down the show but once they were able to salvage it they had to sell a narrative that they were socially responsible.  Hence the cutting back on alcohol and the increased emphasis on marriage.  Blake was a perfect object lesson for them because he seemed to think everything was cool and then could be caught out for being "wrong reasons.". The old style BIP of going to the beach hanging around and maybe continuing isn't enough to continue the fiction that the producers are doing this to help people find love.  But they need that fiction after the scandal.

I also thought it was a bit ridiculous for Joan to be nervous about whether Marcus would take them back. C'mon! Since when has Joan been trembling and insecure about their working options? Never. But they felt the need to diminish her in order to build Sherlock up. Sad.

I didn’t think that was the issue.  I thought that she worried that he wouldn’t let her back because he was worried about her health and was too protective.  That’s why Sherlock had the email.

She didn’t have her ring in the alley, so was that filmed somewhere in the middle and they did make up on set? Did she throw the ring in the dumpster because he wasn’t effusive enough? If constant validation is a need of hers, then I guess they aren’t well suited.

First time posting, so hope I'm doing this right! Did anyone notice that when Chris and Katie were in the parking lot after their segment in studio she wasn't wearing her ring? That she had presumably just put back on her finger minutes before? So was this filmed at a different time?

Yes you are both right.  I think that that was some very deliberately manipulative editing.  Clearly that was filmed in the space between when Katie was on with CH and when Bukowski came out to join them.  It explains, in part, why he was so freaked out and inarticulate during the latter section.  But by showing it after the whole conversation they made it seem as if it was the endpoint and the two of them were going their separate ways at the end of the taping.  Maybe they won't last but I don't trust that narrative at all.  They didn't expect anyone to notice that she didn't have the ring on at that point.

And I'm sorry but to me the real bratty JPJ emerged when he wouldn't even admit that he was wrong about the wedding.  Saying it was "unfortunate" with the stubborn sulky face of a toddler is not a good look.  He has no problem expecting DEREK to break down and confess to all the flaws of Satan but can't make a simple apology.

I think what Call Me Ishmael is referencing is Bri refusing Luke S. rose at last night rose ceremony on Bachelor in Paradise.   But I hope I'm wrong and CMI has some tea to spill!

    You are right.  Sorry.

Oh, I'm not caught on BIP yet (it's been so tedious lately I've only been able to watch 20 minutes at a time). I was hoping for another juicy Stagecoach-style story.

No.  I was just so impressed by her turning down a rose that I would like her to have other opportunities to do it again.

I used to think Bre was so pretty but .... eh... kinda plastic and now that she likes Matt I think less of her.  LOL

I don't know.  I suspect that she had to take Matt's rose because she had too.

I think that after being the first person to say no to a rose they should make her the bachelorette.  She could do the show in a new ruthless way.  "Will Bri give ANYONE a rose tonight???"

That is definitely true.  But I saw JPJ at LAX last week and his bag was pulled for inspection.  He waited patiently and chatted pleasantly with the TSA folks, which is more than I would have done.  I have seen many celebrities over my many years living here, but given that I was literally discussing his antics the night before with my husband and son, this one took the cake.

But were the TSA officers trying to talk with Tayshia?  That would have been the real test...

In JPJ's defense, Derek did start that final fight and Derek probably did say something to JPJ that made it sound like he was just there for the fame and then the next thing you know after being all about Demi now he is all about Tayshia.  I get his anger.

How did he start that final fight?  Did I miss something? I admit that he called him John which JPJ doesn't seem to like but otherwise he just tried to talk to him.  JPJ was making out with several women but thought that Derek was sleazy for moving off from being set up with the Demi thing?  JPJ needs to do something about his inability to do anything but talk over people he disagrees with.

I also thought that was inappropriate but didn’t get the impression that it was planned by Krystal and Chris to be done that way. I re-watched that part of the wedding and as soon as Chris Harrison said they were smudging, people started laughing a little. Also, when he announced it, his tone made it seem like it was some stupid, funny thing. Then of course, they laughed when he saged the genital region. I’m not sure that was the bride and groom’s intent but I felt like I was missing some inside joke. If that’s the case then they shouldn’t have done it. Smudging is real for many people who hold different religious beliefs. I’m trying to give them the benefit of the doubt with this one.

    I hate Nicole.

I think part of it was that when Chrystal and Chris we're first getting together she wanted to teach him yoga and he wasn't very good at it.  So although it was inappropriate I think some of the snickering was about the difference between the bride and groom as anything else.

I agree the random couples are so much more fun. They should make a rule that if you sign up for BiP you can't meet/correspond with anyone else on the show beforehand. When they come on the show having already hooked up and looking to further it or pursue it, totally ruins the entire premise.

My understanding is that that was supposed to be the rule already.  But as with most things in the Bache-universe i guess that falls to the waste side when they imagine ratings.  Next year instead of having Jorge take them on a date they will probably just take the to the site of Stagecoach so they can swap stories about the spots where they had sex.

  12. Personally i think that if the producers are smart they will take the idea that Christina presented them with and run with it:  Bachelor in Inferno.  Each contestant gives out a rose to ensure that someone has to suffer emotional hell until the next rose ceremony.  It would at least be more honest than CH repeating “BIP is about a second chance at love” as if saying it over and over again would make people believe it.

Almost everyone else thought her straddling and making out with everyone, taking her clothes off to bungee jump with Garrett, and then sleeping with different men back to back that she supposedly had serious feelings for and wanted to get engaged to one of them right afterwards was a-ok and that Luke was crazy for not wanting to marry someone who just slept with other men. Almost everyone said Luke should try meeting girls at church or getting on Christian mingle because he didn’t want someone he was in love with and wanted to marry to have just banged other dudes. Yet Hannah G is judged for making out with Blake after knowing Dylan for days and then not telling Tayshia that Blake came out to see her.

I have no problem with HG doing what she is doing--it is BIP.  The point I wanted to make was that I don't see her as being pushed around or manipulated.  She is doing what she wants to do.  Just don't act like it is beyond your control.

I don't want to re-adjudicate the Bachelorette but I think that what people objected to in Luke was not his thinking that if HB slept with someone else then he didn't want to marry her.  It was his thinking that she should agree with him that she shouldn't have done it and that he had to forgive her.  Plus a certain naivete about going on a show where that happens so much.

ps. not to mention the fact that they have only been there about 3 days and the notion that any of them have found true love seems pretty silly.

It’s odd that she’s so easily manipulated and agrees to do whatever other people tell her to do.

I'm not sure what makes it look like HG is either being manipulated or doing what other people tell her to do.  She has successfully worked things so several of the men are chasing after her, showering her with attention, and feeling that she has been "mean girled" when someone points out that she has agency.  Looks to me like she is in control of her situation.
