  1. Episode 16.06 - Clean Hands I enjoyed this episode - have missed seeing Sharron Matthews on my screen since Frankie Drake ended and was happy to see her as the wife/mother in family they stayed with. Always good to see Margaret and Higgins delivered his one line well (by the way, I can't remember did he and his wife lose all their money? I do remember she was working in the clinic at one time but I can't remember if it was for needed money or due to boredom. I was somewhat confused about Henry's line about money for a vacation) The star of the episode for me was of course Watts. Daniel Maslany is so good at showing the underlying pain of Watts. I look forward to when he finds his way back to Toronto (I am counting on a Frankie Drake web episode as being an accurate future prediction). I don't know what to make of Bobby (Robert) Brackenreid. The actor did a good job of presenting his transformation but knowing the likely outcome will break Margaret & Thomas' hearts makes me sad. The preview for next week lessened my pain at knowing I will not be able to watch it live. I think I can wait until Acorn to see those characters again but will be interested in how all of you watchers react next week.
  2. Get out of my head @j5cochran - exact same score (4/5, no *) and almost word for word thinking on Friday. I am blaming a rough week at work. 🤣 The beef vegetable soup looks yummy - I will bring a green salad to pass around the table.
  3. Episode 05, Season 16 MURDOCH RIDES EASY I too enjoyed the episode - good to see the family portions, including Baby's first dead body. I agree with the oddness of Murdoch allowing Harley & Davidson access but too be fair when he did it, he was just trying to figure out what had gone wrong mechanically, knew he was in over his head and had two experts showing up unexpectedly. Plus he didn't know about any of the investor/stolen ideas intrigue at that point. In the past, I think he has gotten experts/historical figures involved when he probably shouldn't have. This time it quickly became an issue because of the "investor" raising a ruckus. Good to see Higgins being helpful and Mrs. Hart providing a major piece of information. Julia and her interest in motorcycles was fun and it was interesting to watch William's reactions going back and forth while he was realizing he probably couldn't stop her even if he wanted to.
  4. 4/5 with no* I was lost in space on the consecutive letters clue but am glad to learn the information for future reference (who am I kidding, I will probably misplace it in the great filing cabinet of my mind). Monday, Wednesday and Thursday were comfortably within my wheelhouse but Canada was a last minute wild guess which is embarrassing when part of the country is less than 15 miles from my front door. I have some parmesan cheese cracker/biscuit things which are a lighter alternative to rolls that I can offer up for the Thanksgiving table.
  5. Ep. 16.04 - Promising Young Ladies @auchic - I agree with you about the nudity warning (which repeated every commercial break as far as I saw) being a whole lot of warning for very little nudity. Based on the warning I was expecting some sort of wardrobe malfunction at the burlesque show. I was never a big Nina Bloom fan (no slight to the actress but I could never care too much about the character) but I did like that the episode was written so that her relationship with George was acknowledged and that Effie was utterly fine with it all. I figured out the who did it quite early but not how the body got to its location. Enjoyed the Crabtrees, Higgins, Brackenreid and Julia portions of the episodes. Also the salon partner (I really need to remember her name since I am liking her more) - not much Ms. Hart but enough to show she is still seemingly preoccupied by her father issues. Absolutely agree that we need Watts back sooner rather than later. Oddly William seemed to be hardly in the episode - I mean I know he was but it felt like he was on the edges somehow.
  6. 2/5 with no *. The airports and Ian Fleming saved me. Congratulations to all who did well - I had no clue on the other three.
  7. The Write Stuff, Season 16 Episode 3 I enjoyed it but not sure how much I will rewatch it in future. Always enjoy seeing more of Brackenreid and Crabtree & I liked the call back to Lucy Maud Montgomery from the earlier season. The actual murder left me a little cold - not sure why I should care about the victim given the variety of descriptions of his character/actions. I was glad to see them using the Murdoch pictures the scene technique - hadn't realized how much I had missed that until this episode. I even liked that it took him down the wrong path for awhile. Also to me Julia felt a little shoehorned into this episode if only to give Edith Wharton someone to drink with (and is it just me or is Julia with a drinking companion becoming more of a regular thing?). I was pleased that she was the one who got William on the correct path to figuring out the clues. Lots of historical characters - I knew George's helper would turn out to be "someone" but I didn't pay enough attention to any clues of who he was - I figured it out just before the reveal thanks to George's remarks on changing the character name. The portrayals of all the authors were interesting but I wonder how much of their characterizations were formed by modern views of their respective works.
  8. 4/5 - I got stuck on the Mayflower Compact for Monday and by the time I said "that doesn't sound like period appropriate (or accurate) language", time was up. Count me as one embarrassed History/Government major for missing that one. The rest of the week went well although Einstein and Beowolf were guesses at best. To everyone experiencing power issues, I hope things get resolved sooner rather than later - I have been through stretches of 5-6 days mostly in decent weather but I remember trying to time showers so that I could get daylight into the bathroom without flashing the neighbors. For those recovering from health issues, I wish you all continuing improvement. I have been lucky in that regard but have been a caregiver so I know sometimes you have to take victories where you can find them. Thank you for sharing with us and putting my petty little inconveniences into perspective.
  9. 16.1 - Sometimes They Come Back (Part 2) @Trey - Like you, I missed Part 1. So, while it was very nice to be back with such wonderful characters, I may stay a little confused until I get to watch Part 1 when Acorn finally gets access. Things I was happy about - a) Brackenreid helping Watts/Jack - my memory of how things were left between them at the end of last season made me wonder about that relationship; b) George and Effie - glad for the outcome and for what I saw of the journey - particularly glad that Miss Cherry was helping out since I grew quite fond of her character over the past couple of seasons (also good to see Henry); c) Murdoch continuing to be a goof ball about the baby. Things I was not so happy about - 1) the Watts/Jack ending (at least for now) - I want Watts back in Toronto but also want him happy in his own skin which he clearly is not; 2) I understand that George has a lot of "aunts" who can be good, bad or somewhere in between but keeping track of them all is getting a bit difficult for me; 3) I wish I could believe that things will work out okay for Julia's patient but my understanding of upper middle class women's experiences at the time makes me doubtful. Things I will reserve judgment about - a) Mrs. Hart's family issues - her relationships with both her husband and father seem a bit too much for me. I thought the dinner table scene was well done by all involved but not sure how much I am supposed to care about any of it. Maybe more will be revealed in future episodes; b) Mrs. Hart's business ventures - I am still not sure how I feel about the salon or her partner but again I am willing to be persuaded. Especially since a season or two ago, I couldn't really like Mrs. Hart but now I worry about her.
  10. 4/5 with no *. Apart from Carnegie Mellon (which I came close to getting but definitely not within time limits), all this week's clues were in my very oddly shaped wheelhouse. So good to be back with everyone - I will offer up a seasonal but relatively light entree to go with all the wonderful desserts - a puffy corn omelet.
  11. Learning that I missed the first new episode of Jeopardy last night was bad enough. But then finding out I also missed Murdoch was almost enough to send me to bed with an attack of the vapors. [Adding insult to injury was my phone sending me a Google alert for MM two hours after it aired 😂] Anyway - so glad the show is back - will try to do better with watching - Happy New Season to all!
  12. Add me to the lists: 1) joining the contest; 2) learning the season began by coming here and, most importantly, 3) welcoming back @saber5055 - we missed you! Happy New Season Everyone!
  13. I just rewatched Hello Darkness and was struck again by how weird it was that Kreps was there and talking to Lucy. Is it possible they know each other from before, e.g. he is one of her stepfathers? I have no idea what it could mean but it is bugging me.
  14. 3/5 with 1* - I apologize to all Stevie Nicks fans - I am of the right vintage to have gotten this but too many people/radio stations overplaying Rumours in my youth drove me to distraction so I didn't guess her. Good solid middle of the week - Eeyore and Andorra popped into my brain easily (thanks in part to recently watching an old Rick Steves' travel show that went to Andorra) and Galileo was a Hail Mary guess, Don't know where my brain was on Friday but I wouldn't have gotten Laser if you spotted me the Lase. I have no clue where I place overall this season but have had a delightful time participating. Thanks to all for the posts and fellowship!
  15. 5/5 with one * and assuming generous leeway on spelling the Opera answer. Oddly the * was my only Instaget - I attended too many political gatherings during the 1992 election cycle not to get that immediately. It is way too hot for me to consider cooking (and a visit to the Ann Arbor Art Fair on Friday wore me out but was such fun) so I will offer up a couple of pitchers of Rose Sangria with raspberries and blueberries. Adding my voice to the "Come Back Sabre" chorus.
  16. 3/5 - Broadway Musicals are definitely in my wheelhouse so Monday was an Instaget. Russian/Soviet history was a fascination for awhile so I got Lenin very quickly and Eureka popped into my brain on the second read through of the clue. Clearly scientific areas definitely are not a strong suit for me and while I thought I had a decent working knowledge of Greek mythology, I learned it was not enough to bail me out this week for astronomy and elements. I'll bring loads of Michigan cherries for no other reason than they are in season and that is when you should just eat them like candy.
  17. 3/5 this week. Vermont was a lucky guess between New Hampshire and it based on what I presumed was decreasing population over the decades. Sherlock was a more educated guess given the year in the clue and having seen many versions of the character. Fords Theater was a Instaget - been there several times and got pretty good at DC geography the summer I spent there after college {If you want to good naturedly irk the Park Service employee giving the tour, ask if the chair in Lincoln's box is the original - when I was there years ago, they were kind of gliding over it without giving any incorrect info but giving the impression it might be. If you are interested, then you can come visit it at Henry Ford Museum}. I make a pretty good crab salad which I will be glad to share since it can be said to relate to the general Chesapeake Bay area (I don't know that I can make it in "real" life this summer, given crab prices but a girl can dream).
  18. 1/5 with 1* - all thanks to many happy trips to the Portland ME area to visit Grundoon relatives - I hope to make it to Portland OR some day. Every other answer made perfect sense once revealed but could not come up with any of them. My best farmer's market purchase this week was some smoked Michigan whitefish for which I have a recipe for really good cream cheese/cream/horseradish/fish spread. I will bring it with crackers for whoever is interested. Happy 4th of July and belated Happy Canada Day to all!
  19. Oddly 3/5 with both * - got Monday at the last second by looking again at the year (much Britbox/Acorn historical programs in the past couple of years) and Thursday was a wild guess since I couldn't think of any other quote (I am embarrassed to admit I didn't know of the album although it is of my musical era). Also got Poe. If no one has offered up sangria this week, I can bring versions with red, white and rose'.
  20. 4/5 with the * (which was a wild guess for me since I am with @Toothbrush in not having seen/read Outlander). I could not get my mind to focus on enough sporting brands quickly enough to even come up with a guess for Wednesday. I can bring a cole slaw/ramen noodle salad to go with the rest of the meal (it is a hot weather go to for Grundoons).
  21. @Trey - Great Minds think alike - something prompted me to look for a renewal today after not having checked for quite awhile and I was just coming here to post about it. I was hopeful but ever since my Frankie Drake hopes got dashed, I am afraid to wish too much until it is official.
  22. 2/5 with no *. My mind was a jumble early in the week. For Monday, it was "you know, the two dudes not Romulus & Remus and for Tuesday, I was so far down the rabbit hole trying to parse the clue that I never even came close. Boston Tea Party and The Little Prince were nearly Instagets but on Friday, I waffled too long between Chile and Peru & didn't listen to my inner Paddington. As I think I have said before, I do need to brush up on South American geography. I made a hot dog & baked bean casserole yesterday to help see me through the week which I am glad to share - only B & M baked beans are used in the Grundoon household so there is at least a Boston theme to it.
  23. 3/5 with 2*- Sidney Poitier was something of a guess but sounded right. For Trafalgar - lots of recent Britbox/Acorn documentary viewing to the rescue. Telegraph was another guess but sounded likely. For Tuesday, I utterly misread the clue and was off in lala land nowhere near the right answer and while I have seen numerous references to Petra in the above-mentioned Britbox/Acorn viewing, I couldn't come closer than "you know, that pink stone city". I will partner @j5cochran with the Tea Party by bringing scones, clotted cream and jam plus assorted tea cakes (I draw the line a marmalade sandwiches, much as I love Paddington).
  24. 3.5 with 1.5* - I had another strong start, slow ending week. It took me a minute but I got to Polio in time - a long time family friend got Polio as a young adult and so I learned about the syndrome. Thanks to lots of recent Prime/Britbox watching, Bruce was right at the front of my brain. Infamy was an Instaget. I got Baltic right away but came nowhere near Adriatic while cycling through the possible seas in my mind. No clue for Friday - didn't even come up with a guess. Mother Grundoon's go-to family holiday gathering dish is a big pot of baked beans so I will offer up those for this week.
  25. 4/5 - count me in the going great until Friday Club - the best I could come for Friday was "you know, that lake I can never remember the name of". @secnarf - good luck with the freezer/fridge issues - I went through it last summer with a multi-day outage and oddly had been thinking this week that I should use some of the stuff I had put away since then to save on grocery bills this month (which is a much easier issue to deal with than an outage).
