  1. The thing is references are not jokes. Easter eggs are just fan service that is blink and you miss it however the movie etc could do without it but having it in makes fans interested in looking for it while a non fan wouldn't know what they were seeing.

  2.

it's a little much to believe that no one would look past the glasses because Cavill is a pretty pretty man, and people are bound to stare.

One thing the movies etc never explained is that Superman actually has some mental powers. He basically gets rid of the ability of people to think that Clark Kent is Superman based on appearance alone.

  3. If you want to see a performance of a guy you wouldn't think would be able to pull it off due to a loveable fat guy persona watch the "Masters of Horror" episode "Family": Norm from cheers does a fantastic performance.

Also for those thinking they could have dropped the alien invasion part especially showing it was real well that wasn't in the original script as noted. However the whole girl being put in bomb shelter by someone who claims a disaster has taking place and you wonder if the guy is crazy plot has been done before in sci fi.

One recent tv example was "Metal Hurlant Chronicles" episode "Shelter Me" but there are probably older ones as well.

  4. It's a general rule of cinema (and real life). Even if a character can heal fast, they can't survive losing a head or being disentingrated. It keeps them from being too OP and helps the audience suspend disbelief.

Actually they can sometimes regrew a head or disintegrated. Killing them off usually requires a special substance or technique or they just get imprisoned.

I’m hoping Kyouma’s traumatic backstory is more unique than the Giant Cactus/Coil Disaster that the flashbacks are revealing. So far, there’s nothing unexpected about his backstory, nothing we couldn’t have guessed. I want some spark of originality there.

Having watched up to episode 11 the backstory gets more fleshed out, why he has memory loss of certain events, why he hates androids, more explanation of what dimension x is, you see more unique characters, So it is worthwhile to see. Its a whole lot more coherent then Concrete Revolutio is. I am not Japanese I do not know your era system of dates. For a subbed broadcast put in the year date system the Western world uses. I do not want to go to wikipedia each time you mention a date to see what it translates especially when you have flashbacks and flash forwards with multiple eras and years in those eras..

  6.

One of my favorite games with dubbed anime is to use the dub audio with the English subs to see what's different. Sometimes they have almost nothing in common.

Thats due to often jokes not translating so they do something different or it would sound bad if directly translated so they change it in English to convey the same concept. Deadman Wonderland for instance the english dialog was often better then the Japanese dialog such as the prisoner dialogs.

Then you have anime like "ghost stories" in which the Japanese dialog was so stilted that when funimation got the rights the Japanese company said do whatever the hell you want with it so funimation decided to do a joke dub.

  7. Yes it is pandering to a female audience. This podcast from two comedians explains how women comics are viewed namely that the unfunny ones have to be in all female avenue to get a female audience. Also that a woman in any comic talent show has to be promoted to the finale not on merits but on the fact that she is female and not having a feamle in the finale would be sexist. So often if very few women comedians come often the only one that gets noticed at the end is the terrible ones.

  8. There are several very valid reasons people are dissing this reboot.

    1. Reboots in general are terrible because the movie often being rebooted or remade or what ever you call it was often pretty good or great. So when some tries to remake it they often produce a turd. Now the only time a remake should be done is if the original movie was mediocre, bad or just didn't live up to it's potential. Dredd is way better then Judge Dredd for example of how to do a remake right.

    2. People who somehow think this is Ghostbusters 3 and wondering where the hell Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd who now sells Vodka in Crystal Skulls, and Ernie Hudson are.

3, People enraged that Ghostbusters 3 will never come out due to this movie since what little revealed seemed awesome. Sure one of them is dead but they could tweak the story and introduce a new team. Introducing a new team was done in the comics, cartoon series, video games.

4; People enraged that this movie seems to be pandering to get a female audience to come to the movie. Pandering in general is bad but making it seem like your movie is only done to get one gender to come because otherwise that gender wouldn't go is infuriating to a lot of people.

  9. That one was weird; it seemed like he was most irked at it for being a big, expensive tentpole designed to make lots of money and start a franchise.

The reviewer is just engaging in hipster snark. But if this movie bombs like a turd hitting the deep end of the toilet bowl causing a splash to hit the ass cheeks, then the plans for the DC cinematic universe will be burned in a rite to exorcise the stink from WB, Any films already done like Wonder Woman will be straight to video. But it could also join The Day the Clown Cried in the secret film vault of the library of congress to not be shown for decades or if ever. .

Now it's possible that WB has a Transformers on their hands, a bad movie that makes a lot of money and so they keep making them.  But my guess would be it'd have to make Star Wars (TFA) money to pull that off.

Transformers like a lot of crap action films got money and sequels due to Asian audiences who don't understand english and watch horrible subtitles by default to LOL at the movie.

I would do a Snoopy dance if this film pulled a John Carter and it were just Snyder and Goyer that would get the heave-ho, but I'm pretty sure Henry Cavill would also be thrown out with the bathwater. I really liked his performance despite my objections to the Man of Steel script, and would hate to see his career torpedoed at this point.

Hey don't diss John Carter. That movie was actually decent. Mars dog was awesome! If it had a marketing dept that wasn't sabotaged by a Disney exec who hated any movie dealing with the word Mars the movie would have done a lot better.

If I'm reading things correctly, the audience rating for Dawn of Justice is 86% (coming from 118,280 audience ratings). I'm wondering if there may be a strong split between critics' responses and audience responses. I've always wondered about whether MoS was really all that disliked since IIRC it made a pile of money and advance tickets sales for Dawn of Justice were strong.

So if Dawn of Justice does well with the audience, I think DC will just ignore the mixed critical reviews (and the reviews are mixed, not across-the-board negative).

Keep in mind the audience for the premiere is comprised of those that would see this movie anyway since DC/WB announced it would lead to the Justice League film.

  10. I'm at least encouraged that Wolverine doesn't appear to be front-and-center of every scene of this movie, and McAvoy & Fassbender are good enough to be worth buying one ticket to me.

You should look at the youtube and see how many dummies who didn't watch the prior film are asking why wolverine hasn't been shown.

  11. Uncanny Avengers has had a roster that in prior storylines would be unacceptable. From wikipedia.

    Current Members:
    Cable
    Doctor Voodoo
    Deadpool
    Human Torch
    Quicksilver
    Rogue (field leader)
    Steve Rogers (leader)
    Synapse
    Former Members:
    Captain America (Wilson)
    Havok
    Sabretooth
    Scarlet Witch
    Spider-Man
    Odinson
    Sunfire
    Wasp
    Wolverine
    Wonder Man
    Vision

Deadpool has been on several Avengers and other superhero teams such as the Great Lakes Avengers, S.H.i.E.L.D, Heroes for Hire etc.

  12. Yeah, less would have been more, maybe some Egyptian-style kohl makeup and archaic armor rather than turning him into Ivan Ooze.

He is wearing armor with Egyptian stylings. He looks better then the cartoon versions and comic book versions which make him look like a muscle bodybuilder instead of an Egyptian god.

  13. Legit coils have legit ie restricted law abiding functions. Notice how in the first episode the guy puts an illegal coil into a water gun and turns it into a powerful weapon. A legit coil for civilian sale wouldn't be able to do that. One made for military use may do so but that would be a restricted market.

The illegal coils seem to be expensive or hard to come by hence why collectors are paid a small fortune to acquire them on behalf of fixers such as Mary who then sell the illegal coils to New Tesla.

  14. Well that's stupid. The whole expressive eye/mask thing is standard in comic book art; it's only now that it's been able to be translated with a live-action character.

Translated well in these two cases.

  15.

. Although in that case you'd think NT wouldn't mind the publicity, if it makes their "legit" coils appear safer.

But the reason why the illegal coils are bad would make people question the legit coils. NT was shown to have already done some nasty stuff that it had hidden so having people question the coils would not be a good idea.

  16. This is just a spiritual successor to cloverfield. IE the film makers found a script that had nothing to do with cloverfield, attached the cloverfield name (without anything having to do with the cloverfield movie) to get backing to get it made.

  17. In regards to bomb shelters you would be surprised at how small or large they can be. There are also other things like a greenhouse to grow food that can be put in them. Some designs can provide power for years if they have a geothermal source for example. As for water issues, graywater and black water treatment facilities can be put in to lengthen the amount of times the water can be recycled and reduce the need for fresh water from storage. There are premade bomb shelters that cost four million dollars or more.

  18.

Him creating a hatch to get UP into the filtration system is, IMO, stupid as all hell. If he could even FIT, would he realistically have the strength/endurance to hoist himself up to get there?

A hatch would be the easiest way to get up in there without taking up a lot of space. He may not have even designed it there are plenty of shelter blueprints and you can even buy the parts to make a shelter piece meal or have it shipped to you complete.

I was surprised that he didn't have her move whatever was blocking it while she was up there, though.

People often overlook things at the time and only later it occurs to them that they should have done or said something. Not a story problem just a human problem.

  19. The last episodes were done before the manga was finished so there are a lot of differences in the manga. The gimp Jaegar's family was tortured to death instead of being alive like in the anime. Also there was more nastiness.

So they send Tatsumi's village a chest of gold, but don't tell them that he and his friends are dead? Kind of a shitty thing to do. They could have at least given them some urns or something and say they died heroes of the revolution.

Tatsumi was sending gold for some time but didn't tell them what he was up to nor the deaths of the other two. It was also remote village so if the others wanted to tell them what had happened to him it would take some time.

  20.

The issue I have is the drama I witnessed happened when the all-female remake was announced. No one would have had a clue about its quality (or lack thereof) but there was such immediate backlash, it was ridiculous.

Because of the reason why the all female cast was given. I forget what the director/writers/studio gave but it was pure pandering.

Also a lot of people were thinking it was Ghostbusters 3 and you still have people that do think this is Ghostbusters 3 and wonder why the hell the original ghostbusters haven't been shown in the trailer.

  21. 160 million box office against 70 million production budget. Add in dvd/bluray streaming tv rights it more then made money in a year.

So far it maybe that this film will not make back its production budget.
