I never watched Sex and the City, but I was under the impression there was nothing feminist about it. Certainly none of the references I ever came across seemed to hint at any feminist elements. Did people who watched it really think of it as a feminist show? If so, in what ways?

It depends on how feminism is defined.  Were the characters acting in ways we'd want kick ass women to act?  No. Would I even call the women on the show feminists?  Sometimes yes.  Sometimes no.

But it was a show about four different kinds of flawed and messy women living their lives, having sex, pursuing love and making mistakes. It wasn't centered on one man or another; the men's stories were centered around the women.  In that way it could be described as feminist.  Sometimes the end result is a feminist product even if the people or behavior involved aren't.

I will say its pretty hard to keep track of all the cases/victims and figure out how they connect to one another .

I found a lot of it to be confusing as well.  I was trying to figure out why because Bosch would also have multiple cases running but I think with Bosch, he might have been involved in multiple cases but his supporting cast in each story would be different.  So when we'd switch, there would be Jimmy or JR.  Here, the whole cold case squad was involved in each case.

I should have known Kevin Dunn would have a bigger role than simply a grieving father.

I am bummed Rawls died.  I liked his chemistry with Colleen and within the team.  And it happened using one of my major pet peeves on cop shows where the big bad just happens to figure out that the friend, lover, coworker or cop in the room with them has just figured out their guilt and attacks.

BOSCH LEGACY is good, not as good as the original, more like a watered down/lower budget version. But worth checking out .

I agree about S1 and S2 but I thought S3 was a big step up and pretty close to the original which is why I was very bummed when it was canceled.

How different is it from the French series The Art of Crime? (Or is it basically an English-language version of that show?)

I've only seen two episodes of Art of Crime and it was a while ago, but I think I've seen enough to say that it's not a remake a la Astrid (French) and Patience (UK).  Just a similar concept.

  5. I'm not really seeing the improvement in Derek that others do.

But I also think it's hard to compare their dates and determine who is better with someone else when Derek's date was Shanice and Ashley's date was Andre.  Shanice is a fun character played by an energetic actress.  Pretty much everyone is better in scenes with her. Andre is none of those things.  In fact, it's why I'm not a fan of Dani and Andre.  Any spark their scenes have comes from Dani.  It's fine for now but I hope for better for Dani.

Martin needs to really tell Smitty the truth even if he won't tell Tyrell and Samantha.  Smitty has every right to know as his husband.

Yeah.  Of all the things Martin has done, knowing his son is being targeted by this guy and not doing everything he can to protect Tyrell, which would involve some form of truth, would probably be the hardest for Smitty to forgive

  6. I recently watched The Women In Blue on Apple TV+.  It's about 16 women (focusing on 4) who join the Mexican City police force in 1970. In the series, it's essentially a PR move to distract the public from the fact that the police have failed to catch a serial killer.

I liked it more than I even expected because it relied a lot on old-fashioned investigative work due to the time period.

Dammit all, life is too short to second guess myself whether a movie is really over or not. I miss seeing the credits roll and feeling free to leave the theatre or turn the TV off without experiencing FOMO later. I know this phenomenon has been around for quite a while, but I point the finger at the MCU for really exacerbating it in recent years.

I don't mind if there is enough of a signal that there may be more scenes or even after 30 seconds or so of credits rolling.  But then you have something like Sinners which was a good movie but had multiple during and after credits scenes.

I was at home and heard in the advance that there were scenes so I didn't mind so much and was prepared.  I would have hated it if I were in the theater or didn't have a warning.

Do people generally not remember what happened under propofol? Because I woke up during a colonoscopy once and remember very well. I was about as loopy as the guy in this episode was, at the time.

Generally, I don't believe so.  When I got a colonoscopy, there was the possibility of having moments of awareness when given whatever they normally give at my hospital.  But because I was so nervous and adamantly against awareness, they changed it to propofol.  I went under in the room and woke up in a different room.

But I'd guess it's a risk with any form of anesthesia since people react to the drug differently.

  9. I always suspected Gudsen mainly because I read that this was based on a podcast about a real person.  I can't remember if I listened to the podcast it's based or not but I am familiar with it.

While this is loosely based on that, I figured having the "hero" be an arsonist was probably going to be featured.  In that respect, I'm very glad they didn't wait too long to reveal it.

And since I suspected it, there were little clues here and there that it was him. There was something in the first episode that was almost too insightful about the arsonist.  I don't remember what it was but it made me go hmm.

Another thing that stood out to me was that his wife wanted to have sex and told him to get his little pill.  He told her he didn't need it.  I know there's no evidence-based belief impotence/sexual dysfunction and arson are linked but I have heard theories that there's a correlation which might have influenced the writing.

By the time he freaked out in front of his stepson, it was so obvious.

Yes that’s what they’re doing nationwide. No idea what CBS programming execs are thinking

I suspect this is a test.  Pretty much everything is in reruns this week because of the 4th of July holiday.

I think they're going to see what happens with the ratings with a new soap after a week of reruns.  If people come back after this week, then they can do it for other holiday weeks and order fewer episodes a year.

To me, it felt like everyone was overacting. The whole season felt that way, actually. Also, the dialogue felt very Succession-like, choppy where no one says a complete sentence.

Too me, I feel like when it feels like there's a lot of achting! going on, it can be because the dialogue is overwritten.  I definitely feel like that happened at times this season.

  12. I find it funny that the I was reading elsewhere that decisions hand't been made....yada yada yada.  Of course they had been.  I just hope that they make a decision as to whether this is the final season.  Since cast contracts are up after 5, I suspect it will be.

Since HBO seems to have no plans to continue airing seasons, is there any way for those of us in the US to catch up/watch elsewhere? We've been in Pottery withdrawal.

I just read an article about The Great American Baking Show and in that article it talks about other Brit competition shows that Roku has picked up like GBBO: The Professionals, the Great British Sewing Bee and seasons 6 and 7 of The Great Pottery Throw Down. I imagine they'll eventually add Season 8 too.

There are four new Christmas in July movies that are connected.

I think they're already on Hallmark+ if people want to watch them in advance.

I didn't mind Machu Picchu Proposal.

They're doing a Halloween movie for the next Haul Out sequel?  That's very smart.  I hope they keep their focus on neighborhood shenanigans more than trying to fight with the outsiders.  The neighborhood is what shines in these movies.

That's the thing does it really save them money? I'm not really sure it does tbh and it's not like they're getting more money either from Peacock. It's like Peacock just tells them to film so they can put out content not really caring about the quality of said content.

Filming fast? I just listed why filming fast likely does save them money.  When they're dark (not filming) they don't have to pay the per diem overhead of filming. So filming fast=fewer filming days per year=more dark days.

Does filming fast and ending up so far ahead hurt the quality of the output?  Probably but does it hurt it so much that doing it in a more expensive way would increase viewership and revenue?  Likely not.

Why do they film so freaking far in advance? Do other soaps? Seems like that schedule drains the budget even more quickly.

They don't do it because it's costly.  They do it because it's cheap. Actors likely have per episode rates but other crew members may have daily rates.  Anyway, if they can film more episodes, then they can have more "dark" time when they're not filming. More dark time is a way to save money.

FX and Hulu probably love these episodes, which I guess we can expect in every season until the show ends.

Audiences seem to like them too.  They aren't my faves but this is the highest rated ep of the season on IMDb.  Fishes is loved too.

My recollection was that Syd came fresh out of culinary school and wanted to work for Carmy because he had a rep.

When we meet Syd, she had recently shut down her catering business, felt like a failure and wanted to get a fresh start working with a chef she admired.  The difference between Syd's experience and Carmy's is that he worked across the country and internationally.  Syd's experience was with Michelin star restaurants but all were Chicago-based from what I recall.

That got me thinking, let me ask you @SoMuchTV, with Hulu+ Live TV are you able to DVR an episode of something and then start watching it like half way in so you can skip commercials? Also, can you watch on more than one screen at a time?

I believe YTTV allows for 3 streams at a time and Hulu allows for 2.  But you can pay for more.

You can start in the middle.  YTTV even asks if you want to join the show live or start from the beginning.  But you can only go back as far as the start of the program unlike my previous DVR that if I want to rewind back into the previous show, I could.  The only thing I don't like about YTTV is that if I'm traveling, I think that feature goes away.  I can watch live but any recording isn't available until the next day if you're out of the "range."  Basically, as long as you're in an area where you can still get your regular local channels, you're fine.  The minute you go into an area where the local market changes and has different channels, recordings don't become available until a day later.

I don't know in any other show I'd say they were queer baiting. Having just enough to hook the queers but little enough so it goes over the straights heads and they don't get angry. But it doesn't quite feel like this is what they are doing? I just really have no idea what in the fuck they are trying to do here.

I think whatever they're doing is more overt with Chester.  I definitely think he's gay or bi.  His behavior with Marcus in the past has made it seem like he really admired him and maybe had a crush.  Or maybe his feelings are deeper since they seem to be true friends too. That felt reinforced this season.  His reaction to Luca seemed like both possible jealousy because Luca's so amazing and close to Marcus but also possible attraction because Luca is so amazing.

I have been a fan from the beginning, but I'm just going to say it...this was not a good season overall.

I thought it was a marked improvement from last season.  Overall, I feel more satisfied by it simply because the season ended with a decision or a plan.  That plan might get upended last season but it was at least purposeful.  Whereas last season I felt like it was completely treading water.

However, even though I liked the season more overall, and loved watching the three-hander for most of this episode, I do feel like Season 3 had more episodes that I considered excellent. There were some decent episodes this season but nothing like Forks or Napkins or even the episode where Sugar gives birth.
