Ramona is Arman's mother's sister? How is it incest if Arman's father had an affair with Ramona?

Ramona is Eduardo's sister, not sister-in-law.  I've definitely thought it was possible she is his actual mother that her brother raised but only one of them is the bio parent.

This was a strange episode.  I don't know why Thony didn't call Nadia or Ramona once she saw Arman, or thought she did.  They're the kind of people who can conjure up enough manpower to free him.

The dance at the end made me nostalgic.  That was the last time Thony and Arman truly worked.  I always felt they should have had them sleep together at that point in the story.

I guess it is going to be the Packers & Eagles Wk 1 in Brazil.  People jumped the gun at Cleveland.

I think a Browns player said it was them but probably misunderstood the situation.   I think it was between GB and Cleveland.   Cleveland was probably more willing to go so they thought it'd be them but the league wanted GB because of how popular they are there. And the league gets what the league wants.

I thought the decision to put 2 episodes back-to-back almost smacked of "burning off" the episodes because the series is doomed.

There are ten episodes to this season.  The finale is May 23rd which is probably still within the "sweeps" period if that even matters anymore.  If they didn't double up for these two episodes, the finale would be during the week of Memorial Day.

It'd be more concerning if they did a bunch of double-up weeks.

  4. I remember reading this was going to be in black and white and I thought it was going to be a waste considering where it was shot.  But as a fan of old black and white movies, I ended up loving it. It was beautifully shot and I loved how it played with depth and shadows.

I go back and forth between loving the languid pace of this and wishing it had been trimmed up a bit.  I'm truly torn. I do know that I liked that the first four episodes were relatively short.  It made them so easy to binge.  The longer the episodes got, the harder it was, although I think I loved every minute of the finale.

Lucio!  I think that was the only color in the series.

I don’t think they did enough to show why Dickie ended up wanting him to stay. In the Jude Law/Matt Damon version, you felt a friendship growing. In this, they seemed to barely tolerate one another.

I imagine it was largely defiance for Dickie since his father sent Tom but I do think the character came into his own after Dickie's death.

And I absolutely loved everything about his look in the finale.

I am a little surprised Marge and the cop didn't take a moment to describe the person they saw in this apartment who called himself Dickie.

  5. In all this talk about password crackdowns...etc., I've been relatively lucky.  I've had to verify that I'm traveling a few times but no other hiccups when I use it on my regular devices here or when I'm at my mother's house.

Except for today.  I was watching MHZ and had a pop-up come up and tell me that I was streaming on three devices at a time and I needed to manage my devices.  The thing is, even though I'm logged into MHZ on all the TVs in my house, I am the only one to stream from that app.  No one else uses MHZ so it's impossible for it to be streaming in three places at the same time.

I am very annoyed the pop up made me agree that I'd log out of other devices where I'm signed into MHZ.

That being said the issue itself is with both Buck and Eddie.   Neither of them have had very interesting female partners.

I think part of that is because, other than Abby, their love interests have come from the outside.  Every other person developed a relationship with an established, well-rounded character.  Karen is the only other recurring love interest not part of the regular cast but she works because she was already established as Hen's wife, she has been around since early on and she's a good actress.  The writing hasn't done them any favors either.

Anyone catch Blind Date Book Club last night?

I started off annoyed with the lead guy because he hated his commercial success and wanted to write the great American novel. I really thought we were being set up that the agent/publishers were evil for denying him his chance to write to his full potential. In other words, he was really pretentious.

Imagine my surprise when the story was for him to re-embrace what kept him fed and that his "literature novel" wasn't great.

  8. The only cameo I was hoping against hope of getting was Kristen's co-star from Palm Royale, Carol Burnett.

Oh well.  The show did have some good energy.  I liked the "bad thing" and the pilates sketch but the only thing that really stood out to me was the earthquake and eclipse battling.  For some reason I really liked that one.

I am not familiar with the singer but I liked her.

  9. I am sad that Neville is leaving and I'm confused about why.  I have shipped people on this show but I never got into Neville and Florence.  That said, I was surprisingly emotional during their scenes, including his initial rejection of her.

He has.  They said Mike got an incredible opportunity to join the FBI and he’s now in Quantico.  I haven’t read the books but I’m gathering they break up in the books + Cameron has moved from HM to GAF and he’s going to host a game show.

I suspect they would have kept Mike it weren't for Cameron's GAF deal.

I only read one of the books but from what I understand:

    Spoiler

The books are still ongoing.  She marries someone else, but I don't think that lasts and it's not the character Victor Webster is playing.  I don't even know if that's a book character or someone the movies made up when Cameron left.

I never watched The Closer. Do you recommend it?

Kyra Sedgewick is a good actress but Brenda could annoy me quite a bit and would bend the rules in an unlikable way.  Still, it's a decent procedural with a good cast.  Personally, I preferred when The Closer became Major Crimes after Kyra's departure. Mary McDonnell (who overlapped a bit on The Closer) became the lead while most of The Closer characters remained.  She's a little like Elsbeth in that her character came on as a member of Internal Affairs to investigate Brenda's homicide department so it's not a "cops can do no wrong" and more "pushing cops to do right" telling.

So in summary, The Closer is good (haven't seen all the episodes, though) but I'm more likely to recommend Major Crimes.

I just find their resistance to her to be weak and kind of unconvincing. It's like they haven't figured out yet that she's capable, despite that she solved three murderers in no time flat.

As of right now, it kind of works because she works with a different detective for each case.  I imagine they'll eventually have detectives who repeat and we may see different relationships develop.  Some may never accept her and others will.

I thought the Costa Rica destination was to get plastic surgery to change her appearance.  No??

It was but I am pretty sure she also became a part of the community there.  I don't know what would have happened if she hadn't gotten caught but the plastic surgery would give her more freedom.

But like I said, I didn't rewatch because, even though it was a good story, it wasn't one I needed to see again.

Was this shown last night? We had local news in the slot, so I figured it was a rerun. Was there any actual new information?

It was labeled a new episode but it was essentially a rerun of a case they've covered before.  I only watched the intro before I recognized the case so I didn't watch it, but if my memory is correct,  it was the case of the excellent bicycle athlete (victim) who dated on and off another bike athlete who had another on and off girlfriend (killer) and they sometimes overlapped.

They were all in Austin for a race.  The killer killed her romantic rival and then went on the run.  She ran to a remote place (in Costa Rica maybe?) and established her yoga practice before getting caught and extradited back to the US.

  14. I think the show hit a strike at the beginning of the second season but lost it again in the second half.

Since the show refused to let go of Addison and Ben, I'm not as upset at this as I might have been in another life but I do feel like there was a lot of wasted potential.

I assumed Joann steamrolled the whole scheme for revenge.

There was also hints at blackmail and knowing where the bodies are buried. For her, that was literal.  They never said what she could possibly know about her neighbors.

That's why I said above the ending felt abrupt.

Didn't the original L&O have a bloated main cast from the beginning?

I wouldn't call it bloated.  In the original L&O, there have always been 6 main characters.  3 from the law side and 3 from the order side, although the supervising characters (lieutenant and elected DA) had smaller roles than the two detectives, ADA and assistant to the ADA.  But since they didn't really go deep into their personal lives, all the screen time is usually related to the case they're working on.

But you're right, it's not based on a book series and it really wasn't interested in exploring the psyche of the characters.  Over the course of many seasons, you learned about the main characters through their relationship to the cases or bits of conversation they'd throw in while on a stakeout but they rarely showed us their home lives.

This show has been the opposite from the beginning.  It's centered on Trent and they like to tell stories about his background.  And usually, I'm okay with that.  The thing I didn't like about this episode is that both stories related back to personal history.  The case about Amanda was personal.  Then we also have to deal with Ormewood's home life.  I don't hate that story as much as others do but they could have given it a rest in this episode.  If they do more personal stories, I prefer when the B story is more procedural in nature.

Also, if the dog walker was in on the plan, why bury dog treats so the dog would find the wrench? Why not just say that the dog found it?

I'm guessing they wanted as little contact to avoid suspicion.  Plus, it didn't have to be her dog that found the wrench.

But this episode did feel a little rushed.

    However, I loved Jane Krakowski.

Good for them, if they do this for real. I just don't want to see another "identity freak out" as Buck goes through some weird internal backlash or something. Just let him have this and don't go too hard on the cliches, please.

The creator has been doing some interviews about what's to come.  I'll spoiler tag a summary of what he has said and post the link in the media thread.

    Spoiler

According to him, we aren't going to get an internal struggle story.  It'll be more about him wondering why he's having a hard time telling people he loves that he's dating Tommy.

I especially loved this one quote.

“It’s 2024,” Minear explained. “I didn’t want to make it the bravest episode of 1983. That didn’t interest me. But I also want to be honest about it.”

  20. I kind of wish I weren't so chronically online.  I saw someone mention something about rumors about this episode and couldn't stop myself from going to Reddit to see what the rumors were.  I was definitely expecting it by the time I watched it.  It would have been more fun to be surprised.

Buck reacted like Buck: just went with it, with no thought of what might happen next.

Yep.  But ever since the first season, I do think, romantically at least, Buck is more about vibes than anything else.  I'd almost describe him as pan.

Ok so 911 on ABC is not just trolling the buck and Eddie shippers it is going all freaking in.

I can’t tell.  Is that the same actor who played Harry before or a new actor?

I still think Buck and Eddie shippers might end up feeling trolled as I do not think they're going to go all in with them.  I suppose it's possible the show could two later season bi reveals but I'd still bet against it. It's going to be fun to watch this play out.

As for Harry, it's not the same actor.  The creator claims the other actor wanted to move on.  I don't know if that's true but this is a recast, although they're about the same age. This one just looks older.

One thing I don't get is that when Tommy showed up last week, it seemed like Hen knew him from somewhere, but have we ever seen him before?

Yes.  He has appeared in the 3 of the "begin" episodes including Hen's, Chim's and Bobby's.

ETA: As a side note, those women lusting after the fireman?  Do they want to be cut in the first night?

I'm lovin Kristin as the host.

I especially loved how she swore in reaction to how much she loved Michelle's dish.  It's a free style that I don't recall Padma having and it will help define her.

    5 hours ago, Bastet said:

My guess, based on their comments shown, would be Michelle, Kaleena, and Rasika, but who knows, since we only see a representative selection of what they say and in this one they didn't deliberate like usual since they weren't the ones choosing.

I agree that it's possible, maybe even probable they would have chosen a different top 3 but I do remember them liking those dishes.  I do think the bottom 3 were their bottom 3 but it's also possible that the diners' least favorite dish wasn't Kenny's.

If Manny were going to leave cheese curds unchanged, then he should have made something cold to take advantage of the squeak.

I guess Danny isn’t conflicted about getting help.

No but I don't think he ever did feel conflicted.  He wanted to help/work with someone last week.  It was his mother who put the kibosh on that.

I felt sorry, a tid, for the nurses.  They had victory right in their grasp but their lack of Spanish cost them.  I had to laugh when Ricky and Cesar were talking about what helped them stay strong this round.  All the things they said were good but, in this case, it was literally the ability to communicate with the locals.  After that, they got to "con permiso" their way to the pit stop.  I like them a lot and think they're running a good race but so far, they're also a little lucky their skills have also happened to nicely align with the tasks.
