This hits a sweet spot between “heartwrenching depiction of sudden death in a family” and “dark but breezy murder mystery comedy.” For some people, the shifts in tone will be too much, but I found it just right. If you’re like me and you can handle only so much raw grief, this is one for you. I just suggest starting it when you can really binge it all. It moves at a good clip, and you will not want to go to sleep not knowing how the last episode ends.

The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley
RabbitEars replied to biakbiak's topic in HBO Documentaries
This was fascinating, especially considering it happened post-exposé. Skimming through it as a layperson, I cannot testify to what all that meant, but when one of the panelists started questioning her and said the evidence fell far short of the company’s claims, the audience applauded him. (Panelist starts his questioning at 1:03:33.) -
I have not been able to get James' thousand yard stare out of my head. I hope Wade & James are receiving all the support in the world. A relative is studying social work and hopes to be a counselor. I've made them promise to watch all four hours of this + the Oprah discussion because it's such a powerful illustration of the insidious ways families and kids are groomed. I imagine therapists are having clients walk in seeking help after seeing this.

My husband and I have discovered that every annoying chore is made a tiny bit better by snorting "on my WEDDING EVE."
-
My husband and I can't help but get sucked into this show every time it's on. I think every actor on this show relishes their role. (Kieran Culkin especially.) These characters are cruel, dumb, and so fun to play. The casting of Shiv, Tom and Nate couldn't be better. Tom + Shiv already look a decade into a barely tolerable marriage, and that's before the wedding. Nate + Shiv are electric together. (I love his '90s hair.) One thing I feel is missing: a golden child. I think if one of the kids were clearly the favored one, there would be real tragedy in Kendall's desperation to be the next alpha. But Logan seems uninterested in all of them. I still think something is up with Greg. I know everything he does screams "I don't belong here," and if writers are just playing up his youth and naivete for laughs, okay. He is a comic gift. But if he is playing dumb while running some con, I wouldn't be surprised.

This show has been out of things to say for several seasons. "Zombies bad, other people bad." Anyway, if Lori could come back in that white dress and haunt Rick, Glenn better come back one day, too. It's only fair. Once they're in one place, why not scout out a library and start researching how to do the things that modern society took care of? Making soap? Raising livestock? As mentioned above, making gunpowder? Looks like someone found a Homegoods. I would watch that episode.

This was terrific! My dad is Puerto Rican and moved to the continental US as a grad student. He emails me several articles a DAY. I loved those dads. Can't wait to watch it again. That reminds me I should email my dad THE SICKENING!!!!!!

Off the topic of this show going down the tubes... Did Erlich's house always have that great view? I swear I never saw it until now.
-
That was painfully bad. I'm ready for the reboot featuring only Gilfoyle, Dinesh, and lots and lots of Jared.
-
After a couple of hilarious episodes, I was disappointed. Most of this was weak sitcom plot writing for yucks. Ha ha, Big Head is NOT instantly suspicious of Erhlich. Richard is NOT in the right room. Guilfoyle is NOT excruciatingly careful with hard drives. Every character turned into the densest possible version of themselves. Except Jared. Of course he's friends with many elderly people. Shit, he should have been the one to go to the old fellow's house to retrieve the hard drive. He probably could have sweet talked him into giving up some antiques to sell to raise capital.

S03.E04: Maleant Data Systems Solutions

The dog being rolled back and forth killed me. -
I at least wanted them to get through a few days of their plotting before being discovered. ...but this was hilarious up to the last scene.

Oh, I understand that valuations in SV are off the charts. But there seems to be no reason to offer $20 million to a do-nothing employee who was hired for his supposed inside knowledge of Richard's algorithm and whose utility to the company is zilch. I figured the offer was so huge because he is considered a threat, but I'm unclear why he remains a threat.

I picked up a copy of Wired with the cover story about the show. It's less about the show and more about the comedy careers of the cast, which was great fun to read. I follow Kamail Nanjiani on Twitter. That man is funny.
