  1. Yet another weak episode. The obituary of the week was dismissed within two minutes. WHY would they bring in a brand-name actress like Marla Gibbs for what amounted to a cameo?!? The writers' decision to back away from the core idea of the show is not a good one, but it does seem to be the case.

Much like the newspaper it so poorly depicts, this show is circling the drain. My prediction is that the season finale will be the series finale.

I'm sorry about that. The show was promising; it just couldn't deliver 😞

I have a feeling that the final 2 will be Rashika and the guy from LCK.  Right now, Danny is the only other chef I can see making it all the way

    Michelle is definitely a contender.

  3. I loved seeing all the Frank Lloyd Wright sites. That was definitely a highlight of the episode for me.

Rasika and Danny were as clear winners as Alisha and Kaleena were clear losers, as I don't think the judges had a single critique of their dishes.

Tom did say that Danny's crisps were too salty.

It's a "Producer's Pick" which they apparently will announce on Friday (April 12).

Ooh, I wasn't aware of that. I thought the field was all set. My fingers are crossed that the producers will surprise and allow Buzzy to play in Masters. I'm doubtful, though.

    I said FCC

I did too. Considering that I've been staring at the screen blankly for FJ lately, I was happy just to come up with a reasonable guess. 😄

I did get two Triple Stumpers tonight: pinafore and Cat People. That felt like a minor victory.

  7. Week 30:  0/5.

In the past four weeks, I'm 1/20. The last time I went 3/5 or better was Week 22. 😲I'm definitely looking forward to non-tournament play, in the hope that I'll do better in FJ.

    Win Monday, Amy!

  8. My favorite Gordon Lightfoot song is "Early Morning Rain," and I second "Canadian Railroad Trilogy." The latter may very well be Lightfoot's masterpiece, even though casual listeners may not be that familiar with it.

I had the pleasure of seeing Gordon Lightfoot live in 1982 at the Concord Pavillion, while I was vacationing in Northern California. It was a great show and Lightfoot was a great entertainer, telling stories along the way. There was no opening act and It's the only concert I've ever attended--and I have attended MANY--where there was an intermission during the headliner's set. After playing a good number of songs, Gordon said they were going to take a break for about 15-20 minutes, and then they'd be back for the second half. And so they did! It was a wonderful night.

And now, back to our regularly scheduled Jeopardy! programming. 🙂

Considering the checkered history of game shows in the US, dating back to the 1950s, this is NOT a good look. They absolutely need to come clean about what really happened here; the sooner the better.

I'm quoting myself here, because IMO, the LCK situation this season just doesn't seem to pass the smell test. Top Chef's producers are always claiming that everything's on the up and up but it sure doesn't feel like it here. TC may not be a traditional game show, but it is a competition with a $250,000 prize, not to mention the crown jewel of competitive cooking shows! Perhaps naively, I assumed that game shows were, as they had been in the past, regulated by the FCC. I did a perfunctory search to confirm this and discovered that while broadcast TV game shows are still subject to federal oversight, cable and Internet game shows are not.

I think they're heading down a gray path here and they'd better come clean about this mess if Soo actually makes it into the main competition.

  10. Soo seems to be a nice enough guy and a skilled chef, but I'm still having a difficult time not seeing him as some kind of ringer that Top Chef has decided will make it into the competition.

Of course, Kenny was no help in quelling my doubts. Runny eggs aren't gonna cut it!

  11. While Kenny's dish didn't seem all that appealing anyway, how do you not put aside the specific components of your dish so that you have enough to serve to the judges? Mind boggling.

Kevin really seems to be a fish out of water on US Top Chef.

I was SO happy for Michelle! She's rapidly becoming my favorite. I love collard greens, so I really wish I could have tasted here dish.

I liked the make-up of Dan's dish too.

It surprised me that there wasn't some comment made about Kaleena using dried pasta.

  12. I flipped over to Peacock right after the TC episode ended and LCK Ep. 2 wasn't up yet. 🤷‍♀️  I checked YouTube and they had it up already. Go figure. Here's the YT version for anyone who needs it.

I had to pee and missed what happened with the slippery floor -- who spilled?

Charly spilled some cream. He tried to wipe it up with a kitchen towel, but I don't think he got it all. He did announce to the other chefs to be careful in the area. Laura then slipped (didn't fall) but had a pot of melted cheese with her and some overflow fell on the floor. She tried to get there to wipe the floor, but Dan fell just ahead of her getting there.
