  1. Not sure what the hell just happened.... I thought I'd re-watch episode 4 since so much of it went by 'non comprende'. So I go to On Demand, and there's no episode 4 available. There is an Episode 5. So I think...hey they mislabeled this one or WTF, I don't know. But then they show scenes from ep 4 in 'previously on The Bridge' and then I'm watching episode 5. Exactly WHAT are the spoiler rules in a situation like this? I will err on the side of caution and assume it is too early to discuss this episode, but wow.....powerful stuff indeed. So does this mean I now have a nearly 2 week wait until I watch a new episode of The Bridge? And where the hell did episode 4 go On Demand. Poof. It's gone.
  2. Nah, you are not alone Portia. I'm one of the few (I guess) who has pretty much loved The Killing, especially the second and third seasons. Well.....not the way it all ended last season, that was just silly stupid, as my 4 year old granddaughter would label stuff she disdains. I dread the way it will all end. It cannot end well. Holder and Linden will live their devastating lie until it does them both in, I'm sure. It's almost Shakespearean. Once it all went down the way it did it was destined to become a classic, unavoidable tragedy. But I'm in for the ride.
  3. I've been digesting this ep for about 24 hours, and frankly the meal didn't go down all that smoothly. Indigesting? Mostly I found the whole thing ranged from disturbing (Jack, snitching the watercolor from Sonja's fridge....and the choking sex) to downright WTF....Fausto and Eleanor. Her entire demeanor went south in the room with Fausto. She seemed unsure and hesitant. And whatever that shit was with the thing in the cage and the taunting with an acorn was just plain weird. And what about Fausto running his hand along Eleanor's face....she who cannot be touched? Kudos SimoneS for understanding much of anything that Linder mumbled because the only words I understood out of his mouth were 'party's over' before he bashed that guy hanging by his hands in the barn or wherever with the rock that the super creepy roadside salesman gave to Linder. I'm an Orphan Black fan. I love weird. But I particularly love 'makes a tiny bit of sense weird.' The tiny bit of sense part seemed oddly scarce last night. Oh....and then there is the 'detective policeman' guy draining Marco for the whereabouts of Eva. That is not going to end well.
  4. I have just finished re-watching all of S1 of The Wire. Well, all but the finale episode of that season. Nobody does it better than David Simon. My two favorite shows of all time are Homicide:LOTS and The Wire. Warren, Warren, Warren......you should have stayed with grammy. And D'....maybe if you'd had the karma to have been born someplace like small town Oregon you would have become a doctor or who knows, a 'police'. Will watch S1E13 today. All the seasons of The Wire were good, but S1 was special.
  5. Beedub wrote: Ah....but it is in no small part this, the Alison and Helena factors, which makes me love OB as much as I do. IMO this show is first a thriller, somewhere down the line sci fi, but also at times, a delightful comedy. Who can ask for more. (Ahem......Emmy voters. You losers.)
  6. I simply cannot keep this under my hat!! This TEAM IVY leaguer is going to see her at The Art House in Provincetown, MA next month. I've wanted to attend one of these small venue concerts of Megan's but she hasn't had any that I know of on the West Coast since she moved back to New York after SSTW was cancelled. I have a good friend who lives just outside Providence, RI, who is a fan of Megan's, so we decided to kill two birds with one stone. I have wanted to visit her (and I've never been to Cape Cod, either, so am looking forward to that as well) AND see Megan in concert. We're going to the final two shows of the series of 6 that she is doing at The Art House. The Sunday night show is with Seth Rudetsky (piano) and the closing night show will be with her husband, Brian Gallagher (guitar). According to the guy I talked to who runs The Art House these will actually be two different concerts. How cool is this!?!?! Anybody of you fellow Team Ivy-ites who might live anywhere near this event.....join us! The shows run from Wednesday August 13 through Monday August 18.
  7. Someone above mentioned last night's episode was something like putting together a jigsaw puzzle in the dark. And that's almost precisely the analogy I came up with as I puzzled my way through that maze from scene to scene trying to see the pattern, the whole picture. And I thought to myself, this is like doing a jigsaw puzzle that has no edge pieces. I always start with those....the ones with a straight edge....and it helps me figure out everything else about the puzzle. Without any straight edge pieces, however, the whole thing is a bit of a random mess. Thanks to those of you who answered some of my questions (including verifying that it WAS Elinor's very naked, very tatooed body at the end. But why did she murmur 'help me'?) I cast my vote for no hook up between Sonya and Marco. One of my favorite cop duo relationships is the sweet friendship between Holder and Linden on The Killing. A hook up changes everything. It complicates one of the few simple things about that particular show, and would do the same in The Bridge. On another note......has anyone watched the Wallander series? I am catching up on S3 on Netflix, and must admit I had never heard of it. Crikey, the Scandinavians do have a knack for very dark police procedurals. Saw 'The Keeper of Lost Causes' at the Seattle International Film Festival last month, and the word 'dark' doesn't begin to describe the depth of depravity of the bad guy in that story. There does not appear to be a Wallander forum on PTV?
  8. Mama No Life wrote: This whole thing just reeks. I tried to watch Scandal, and couldn't get through the very first episode due to the one-dimensional portrayal by Kerry Washington of the tough gal attorney who has only one facial expression. Katharine McPhee could do as well in the role, and she's a doorknob. Who the hell is on the nominating committee for the Emmy awards? How could anyone not see how beyond amazing Maslany is in Orphan Black?!? The moment I clicked on the nominations and saw she had not been nominated I face palmed. Stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid.
  9. I don't know how I missed this piece on Smash fairly early in Season 1, but it certainly speaks to everything we've been saying here about Hilty vs. McPhee. Lach wrote: http://www.salon.com/2012/03/19/smashs_unexpected_star/
  10. I've given up on trying to figure out why I am still so obsessed with Smash, in fact why did I ever watch Season 2 is a question without an answer. All that being said, I read the following passage in Garth Stein's lovely book "Racing in the Rain" and immediately thought of Smash. Of the Mary Sue-istic Karen, of the angst of viewers and critics alike who were like WTF is with this show that tells me one thing and shows me something else. But this lovely passage illustrates the fatal flaw of a show that could just as well have been titled "KAREN IS AWESOME!" in spite of the fact that she wasn't awesome, nor was the actress playing her awesome....nor even half way good, and awesome was right there in the flesh and blood in the person of Ivy played so beautifully by Megan Hilty. So some of us wallowed through 2 full seasons of hate watching simply because of Ivy, and of the excellent work of songwriters Shaiman and Wittman. Here is the passage from "Racing in the Rain" (for those of you who have not read it, the entire point of view/narrator of the story is a terrier mix dog named Enzo): Karen was never anything more than a fairly middling sunrise. She had no flaws, she overcame nothing. We were simply told that she was the most amazing sunrise ever, and that it was all due to her special awesomeness.
  11. Just saw a video of a song by Megan, a cover of Jessie J's 'Who You Are' from the end of Season 1, apparently in Boston after all seemed lost, and the perfect princess of princessdom Karen had been handed the role of Marilyn (not absolutely certain of the timing of the number, but sometime around all of that....clearly during Ivy's lowest moments.) "Seeing is deceiving Dreaming is believing It's okay not to be okay. Tears don't mean you're losing Everybody's bruising Just stay true to who you are." Anyone remember this actually being in the show? At that moment in Ivy's life that song was 'hers' like 'Moving the Line' was hers, as well as Marilyn's. To this day I know I stuck with Smash for just two reasons. Megan Hilty. Shaiman and Wittman's wonderful music. And a little aside, but an important one. Megan has made it clear (heard this from her dad) that she really gets upset when people talk to her about everything that went wrong with Smash. That while she is keenly aware that mistakes were made and that the story often didn't make sense, she made lifelong friends on that show. That she and Katharine are friends, that neither of them ever worked harder in their lives. They had to master changing choreography, changing musical numbers, along with their lines (also frustratingly fluid) and it was crazy hard. They loved it, and she loves her co-workers on that show. For me, this quality of Megan's, illustrated by her obvious kindness and decency, her admonition to anyone who wants to do what she does to 'always be nice.....to everyone'...is what makes her even more special than simply a terrific actress with an unbelievable voice. She is a rarity in show business. Her parents and family and friends all have justification in being incredibly proud of her. For my part, if I am lucky enough to see her at a smaller venue concert than those I've been fortunate enough to attend, I will not make any comment except to say that Smash was a great ride. A bumpy one, one to a destination I didn't always choose, but one I will never forget. I might even go on to admit that I am Team Ivy forever......and so is Wilson.
  12. I just finished watching the entire season on Netflix. Stella Gibson and Rachel Duncan (Orphan Black) have to be the two iciest bitches in a long while. The way it all ended was interesting (I won't spoil it for those who haven't watched all 5 episodes yet) and leaves something for season 2 perhaps. Is there definitely a season 2 in the offing?
  13. Has there ever been a suggestion of an Ivy spin-off series. I believe it would be a hit. Can't wait to get the new Cafe Carlyle album when it is released!
  14. Old favorites: Saint Elsewhere, Homicide Recent: Breaking Bad Returning: Orphan Black, The Bridge, The Killing (Netflix) Hate to admit how much I miss: Smash (if someone would do a spin-off with Ivy/Megan Hilty I'd be ecstatic)
  15. Good finale, I've just one major nit to pick. The 'take away' scene with Helena and the aircraft thingy, it seriously looked like a grade school version of ET mixed with Star Wars and Star Trek. If TPTB on this show can pull off the dance scene, along with too many other excellent clone-y shit throughout the season to mention, could they not have made that particular scene an iota believable? I was watching this finale on my computer (as I've mentioned I am stranded on a lovely tropical island, one without BBC but WITH a nice wireless connection) with my youngest daughter. When that star-trek-y scene came on she said 'WTF is THAT? Is this supposed to be believable? Did they just throw this in in the last minute and had no time to stage it to look even semi-realistic?' Just our take. As for Charlotte.....I get that she is a 'later' clone. But why is her hair exactly like Rachel's was as a child. Yes, they are clones. But all the clones we've seen so far are individuals, with their own styles, especially when it comes to hair. Is it significant that Charlotte as a child is basically Rachel as a child? I mean, really. My daughter's identical twin friends always looked different enough that we never had trouble telling which was twin A and which was twin B. I'm with you Captanne.
  16. "I'm proud of you, Hon" "You're afraid of spiders!" "I'll shoot his eye out"
  17. And everyone lived happily ever after. Well, except for those who didn't. Scattered thoughts on an episode I thought was truly satisfying (and I haven't been the biggest fan of this show....just way too much over the top violence for my delicate soul). Molly looked beautiful tonight. In every scene. The lighting was different, and she just glowed. That little family scene at the end was perfect. "I'm proud of you, Hon." "You're afraid of spiders!" Malvo and Lester both got what was coming to them. Budge and Pepper deserved better. Being inept FBI agents shouldn't be the death sentence it was for them, poor suckers. And I loved the glove(s) on the station platform story. Of course Lester didn't get it. He was never anything but a very small little man, even when he found his bravado, it was nothing more than a flimsy shell around his smallness.

  19. Helena, you rock. That insemination with, what was it, horse sperm? cow sperm? sheep? was without doubt one of the most satisfying scenes in the history of TV, eh? In case any of you are wondering, after all my angst about being trapped in paradise without BBCAmerica, I came to my senses and realized I could simply access my Comcast account and watch the episode On Demand Online. Voila, c'est accomplice. The previews are unnerving, but with Helena 'out there' we can trust she will rescue her sestra. God I do love this show. Just as I began watching it my daughter dropped in from the room next door to see if I would watch my sleeping 9 month old granddaughter, and I declined. Oooooh, that was cold. My priorities are whacked, but what must be must be. Rachel, you cold bitch. Just wait, my icy dear, until you realize that Kira is not gonna 'learn to like it here'. You have a world of hurt awaiting you.
  20. LA Dreamer: I know...LA. We HATED this show, yet never missed an episode, right? Who doesn't seriously believe that if they hadn't screwed the whole thing up with the vapidness of McNobody McPhee we'd not only still be watching but we'd be loving it instead of hate-watching it. I continue to play every Hilty song from SMASH in my car and I do really miss that damned show. All TPTB ever had to do to have a true hit out of SMASH was to follow a new Broadway musical from auditions through workshop to a finale of opening night and it would have been a mega-hit. No problem doing some down and dirty side stories. But centering a series about the making of a Broadway musical around an insipid pop diva (and not even the word diva seems right for McPhee) was doomed doomed doomed. All because Steven Spielberg had a hard on for Katharine McPhee. What a sad little story.
  21. Captanne wrote: OK, I googled Orphan Black online and came up with this site. Apparently I will be able to watch tonight's episode at 6 PM right here in my happy little rented condo. (No the owners did not buy the 'upgrade' Time Warner package with channel 341, the bounders....) It may be a bit anti-social of me, considering it is smack dab in the middle of the dinner hour, but I have my priorities. Orphan Black first. Everything else, including family, second. Right? http://nextguide.tv/10749236
  22. Crap. No way can one complain about being stuck at Kamaole Beach in Maui for 3 weeks. It's heaven, right? Right. Except for one teensy little thing that to me is a ginormous 'OH NO!!'...... Time Warner cable in Maui does not include BBC America. Is there any other way of watching episodes of OB online? I guess I could download from iTunes. Or show some adult restraint and wait until I get home and catch up On Demand. But really.....how do people here manage without BBC America and Orphan Black?!?! Paradise isn't paradise without that ingredient.
  23. millahnna wrote: Indeed. My cat (Wilson) watches TV with me. He also seems to pick up on my visceral reactions to stuff I do not like going on the tube (like when Derek Wills announced that Karen Cahhhhtwright would go onstage as Marilyn Monroe in SMASH over the far superior Ivy and Wilson immediately hacked up a hairball the size of Rhode Island and sauntered out of the room. Well said, Wilson.) Anyway, I foresee a ginormous hairball incident if TPTB kill off Felix. All I can say is NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! And we won't feel a hell of a lot better about them killing Cosima or Helena either. However, I kinda doubt anyone can kill Helena.
  24. Was Allison wearing pajama tops with an ant print? Like termite size black ants, or the ants that love picnics? And yeah, the best scene in the episode was Allison huffing indignantly over the poor wrapping job of Aldous Leeky's body. Precious. Tony grew on me, but at first I was like why is Sarah wearing a fake beard, and WTF did she do to her hair and who is that chunky guy she's hanging with who has a bullet through his spleen. So that whole thing wasn't quite as seamless as all the other clone introductions, was it. Then there was Rachel's inside her head tantrum about learning the news about her 'barrenness' which really didn't ring true because Rachel hardly seems like the kind of gal that is longing to love and nurture a child.... Even so, good episode if not quite totally great. Saturday nights have become way too far apart since I started watching this show.
  25. Lonesome Rhodes wrote: Nor for me. I was bored. Bored bored bored. AuntiePam wrote how she's only watching two shows right now. So am I. And at this point it may be cut down to just one, because Fargo is leaving me cold. My second show is Orphan Black, and IMHO the show runner of Fargo should take a few lessons from that excellent series. Questions are NOT left unanswered, the audience is trusted with refreshingly clear resolutions (most often in a single episode) yet still leaves enough out there that you cannot wait until the next episode to air. Fargo is full of gaping plot holes, over-the-top characters, ridiculous amounts of graphic violence, and I don't really have much hope for the final two episodes. They say this is definitely a single-season series. I feel that's a wise decision. I wouldn't tune in again for Season 2.
