haha not Esme's first choice, I'm sure if she couldn't be "lodged" at Windemere she wanted the MetroCourt. But Kelly's will put her close to Cam.

If they go the Cam/Esme route eventually (and I hope they do because the actors have a nice chemistry) I hope they let Esme me more than just an insane villain. Let her actually want to be decent to Cam, while still being willing to screw everyone else over. And let Joss date someone Carly doesn’t approve of so we can finally get some tension there.

  2. Does Ryan have something on Harmony? Why would she be helping him do serial killer things while he threatens to kill her?

Laura’s about face on Esme is so dumb and out of character. She knows Spencer listens to Trina so if she wants someone to influence him she would be going there. But I guess she can’t wait for New Face Trina to come to town.

Some of us were talking about Sarah Webber in the episode thread. Here's a look at the two versions of Sarah, for anyone who missed her and is curious.

From '97, the beginnings of the attempt to make Sarah and Nikolas happen as a popular young couple. Featuring Jennifer Sky and a young Tyler Christopher:

Their chemistry stayed about like that. And that song came back a lot.

Still, I'm struck by how different the cutting and pacing were 25 years ago. We'd never get an entire song with a couple slow-dancing now, the hands over the back, the faces, close-up, medium distance with the crowd, etc. All the different stories of the day are chopped up into tiny fragments and stitched together.

For Sarah #2, I couldn't find the notorious porn-like Sarah/Lucky hook-up at the photo studio, but here (from '02) is Liz bitching them out on the hospital rooftop when she discovers their secret affair. Featuring Sarah Laine, Becky Herbst, and Jacob Young.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_1dJjvUuso&ab_channel=traveshamockery

Sarah had been going to PC High in '97, so she had completed college and med school in under five years. I love soap time.

You are so right about the pacing and I know this is a FV thing and he thinks it helps keep viewers watching the whole show, but I hate it so much. We used to get the time in a scene to invest in what was going on, to let the emotion build. It’s a shame that’s gone.

I didn’t completely hate the original Sarah. They made her saccharine and saintly but I enjoyed all of Liz’s ridiculous but entertaining schemes against her for that brief period.

  4. I haven’t watched most of the past decade so I maybe missed something, but both of Liz’s parents pretty much abandoned her at 15 no? And haven’t been around for any of the huge life changing things that have happened to her? Weddings and deaths and births? That seems good enough reason to be on the outs with her dad. Sad that relationship is repeated with Aiden and his dad too.

  5. I wish the teen storyline made more sense. If Esme is related to Ryan she should have cut her teeth on this sort of drama as a child, she should be well beyond it now. And what’s her gain? If she wants to keep Spencer and is threatened by Trina AND she’s as psycho as Ryan we should be looking at some sort of kidnapping scenario, not low rent porn of her friends with no real way to pin it on Trina. So dumb. Though wonderful to see Trina finally lose it on her. Really gonna miss Sydney.

And even less clear is why Spencer continues to be with Esme. Maybe with a new actress as Trina who isn’t in school and can film more, we will see faster development on this story. The pacing has been ridiculous.

GH struck gold with Sydney, Avery, and Nicholaa and they better hope Nicholas and Avery dont decide to leave as well, cause it will be hard to replace them

I think Nicholas is locked into a contract, Avery may be as well. She’s also in college but somehow Eden is going to swing GH, school and varsity volleyball? I’m going to miss Sydney a lot, she really made that character interesting.

I like Portia and Curtis and I like Liz and Finn, yet these couples are both total bores together. Are they all too low key?

I actually felt bad for Joss (and felt awful for Cam). Esme once again needs better villain lessons! You don’t stand outside and loudly laugh, and my guess is she left some sort of terrible trail that will lead them right to her.

I cannot BELIEVE that the Metro Court was named after Courtney. (I was on a GH break then.) But that is the lamest tribute ever. It's like giving someone named Simon Street a tribute by naming a road Metro Street.

Damn, I wish I had Trina by my side every day. Imagine being that mad, but still able to clinically eviscerate the logic of the person you're mad at! She is always so good for not only standing up for herself, but giving little morality lessons in the bargain.....  I just saw the actress will be leaving mid-March, which is a bummer, but I hope they assign the Trina writer to her replacement.

What, Sydney is leaving? Before we even get a first kiss between Spencer and Trina? What a bummer.

  8. I’ve grown to like Lea and Sean, but he did pressure her to date him, after she said no many times. If he has insecurities because of that, well, it’s his own fault. Was not expecting her to flip on him like that at the end though.

Hated the sad sack patient who was so offended by the idea of him dating overweight women but thinks he’s entitled to his pick of women.

  9. That convo with Esme and Laura had me hoping they would take this character a different path than straight up psycho villain and let her be more entertaining. When Laura was going on about Esme being late for dinner, and Esme was just like “didn’t you have your phone?” I actually laughed. Avery Pohl is very good.

As is Nicholas Chavez who outacts his onscreen father in most scenes. Today felt like a lot of truths - he wants Nik to love him more than Ava. That’s not necessarily reasonable or attractive for someone his age but it’s the truth.

Joss, while generally not a good friend, was also right to tell Trina that Spencer is making her his side piece. Emotionally, almost physically. But of course she uses that info to piss off Esme instead of just being there for Trina.

Jacob Young was miscast. He was pretty good on AMC.

It helped that he didn’t have the dreaded frosted tips by the time he got to AMC. I loved him as JR, he was the most sympathetic part of the horrific Babe storyline.

I definitely don’t think TG had a crush on JY, and Genie was equally vocal in her disdain for him playing Lucky. And he truly was wrong for the role. I don’t think I’ve heard Genie quite as vocal about what she thought of Colton Scott/Martinez, though.

  11. I still think Colton Scott and Jacob Young were having some sort of fling. They really only had chemistry with each other and no one else.

The rumors I heard about Geary were that he was insistent on elevating Parsons and having a lot of scenes with him. I did not enjoy whatever form of chemistry they had. Geary was always best, IMO, with JJ and with JMB.  I’ve been watching the arrival of Nikolas/Stefan from the 90s and the family dynamic btwn GF TG and JJ in those days was just perfect.

    Today's Episode

Carly tells Joss to leave. they say i love you and Joss stands in front of Sonny gives him a once over and walks past him with disgust (you know if she had given him a letter she'd demand it back and rip it up in front of Sonny that's Joss's play).  Sonny goes "if looks can kill."

The idea of Joss giving Sonny a letter, asking for it back to tear it up in his face is so hilarious and wonderful! I find it hard to believe Sonny at all cares what she thinks. But man between the Jason missing (still??) and Carly’s kids being extra Carly-ish today sounds rough.

The return of Paula. I haven't seen this in a while, but MB fans used to talk about her all the time. "Paula will not like this one bit," "Paula will have something to say about that," "Paula likes the marriage to Carly." I have no idea what Jonathan Frakes, Scott DeFreitas, or Juan Saucedo thinks of their spouse's storylines. I don't even know whether they follow the show, and I like it that way. And those are all people who are actually in the business, or have been.

Also, that article says "Benard would wave a red flag if the polarizing affair didn’t ring true to him." Is that supposed to be "white flag" (surrender)? Red flag means to make someone even madder (bullfighting).

You mean Michael Saucedo? But the soap press barely asks Becky what she thinks about her stories so…

I think he meant red flag, as in warning sign. I don’t have a lot of anger towards MB so I’m not seeing what’s bad about this. I can also appreciate that he does not gaf about telling his fans in Twitter that he enjoys this story.

    Holy shit

Incredible episode and incredible acting, writing!

I like WR and he played it so well today, even being vulnerable.

    Earring was brilliant.

I need a cigarette and a drink after that.

And besides Maxie and peter, loved Laura and victor scene.

You guys weren’t kidding, today was really great. And I agree WR was good playing vulnerable and earnest. Maybe he’s only terrible when he tries to be menacing.

I loved the Laura and Victor moment at the end, those two are soap legends.

  15. Enjoyed it but not as much as season 1.

Of the kids I also liked Cici best, maybe because the actress had a real spark or because she’s so scrappy. But the actor playing Ty is quite good. I didn’t understand how Jackson went from such a total dbag in season 1 to pure innocent sweetness this season. I also kept waiter for a true triangle between Annie, Ty and Jackson and it never happened.

Helen’s story is the adult story I found most emotional and interesting. Love the actress. Maddie and Cal were a bit boring this time around though I appreciate the chemistry between the actors. Would be fine to never see Noreen again!

It is a charming show with an almost fairy tale like town.

It would crack me up if he told Trina he actually wants to be with her, but he's afraid if he breaks up with Esmé she'll kill him. And then we cut to Esmé perusing the dark web for untraceable poisons, "just in case."

This has to be the way the story goes. He figures out her connection to Ryan while he’s in there, and then has to keep dating her because she might kill him otherwise. Otherwise why send him to Springridge at  all? It’s about time we find out Esme’s past.

it wouldn't surprise me if there were - but the thing is Trina talks about it with both Ava and her Mom. I think had she been at home or something it easily would have been her mom (probably nixing the whole "I drank underage thing." which Ava was kinda like. "oh come on now Trina," where Portia woulda ripped her hide (oh no that woulda been my mom excuse me ;) ) but Trina was at work, so it was Ava.

I think it’s nice Trina has a non family member who openly and bluntly puts her first. Her teenage friends don’t do that. Plus I think the main reason they have her talking about Spencer with Ava is because of his tense relationship with Ava plus Ava kind of wanting them to be together. Portia is very anti-Spencer (for good reason).

  18. Was Esme…flirting with Victor? Those scenes were actually pretty good, despite the ridiculous giant bow on her dress. She should just go live with him while Spencer is in prison.

I’ve come to the conclusion that the only way Sonny and Carly will actually end is murder suicide. Neither one of them wants that relationship but they refuse to admit it.

I'm thinking Esme is setting up Trina to take the blame for the Joss/Cam sex tape.

I think so too but this has to be what finally topples Esme because even Joss and Cam are smart enough to know Trina would never do that (not to mention she was unconscious). With the pacing on this storyline though none of this will even come out until summer.

. I never get the purpose behind Esme’s plots. It feels like she schemes just to scheme without any type of goal. She lucked into Trina confessing how she felt because otherwise, nothing would have happened other than Trina getting sick and possibly passing ou

Very true, she also lucked into Cam and Joss still having sex despite all of this. This storyline was such a letdown after the months of hype. Everyone was right to know it would end up sucking. And I agree with everyone, Trina was an afterthought in this story.

Esme's scheme - why not dose the mug(s?) while you're in the kitchen, not out in the open where anyone could see you? I thought that maybe her plan was to get Trina and Cam drugged and then get them into a compromising position and take pictures. Otherwise, why did she need the new smartphone? Playing Never Have I Ever seems like a way to get everyone to argue, but wouldn't that tip her hand? Unless there's something that strands everyone at the cabin, so they are all stuck together with a bunch of conflicts between them.

I’m assuming they didn’t want to build a kitchen set but wanted to show her adding the drugs.

NY has revenge porn laws so she could go to jail for releasing the tape and I’m doubting that she paid in cash for the phone so it could be traced back to her. She needs better supervillain lessons and trying to get them from mute Ryan via osmosis doesn’t seem to be working.

How is it that Wes Ramsey was actually a better actor when he was in his 20's  and starring in Latter Days and Charmed then he is now after twenty years in the business? At least Maurice Bernard can blame the degradation of his acting skills on his bipolar meds. Man, I wish now that Steve Sandvoss had been the one from Latter Days to have a long career instead.

He was honestly really good on GL too. He had a lot of potential back then and seemed natural to the point where I can’t believe this is the same person.

I didn't really care for Trina being drugged.   She's the only one not coupled up in the group, she's the only non-white person in the group, now she's the only drugged one in the group.  They better have Spencer get off his ass and wrap this up soon.   They went over the line today, just my opinion.

I didn’t enjoy it either though, in soap world horrible things like this happen to people and Esme is a villain so it makes sense. But I really need Spencer to not just stand there apathetically while his gf causes all this drama. And if the show is going to have Trina admit that she’s struggling with Joss and Cam dating then I expect a follow up to that. I don’t think she wants Cam, she’s just bummed to feel like the fifth wheel with her best friends. And since all these people are free with the PDA in front of her I don’t blame her at all. It’s time for a third teen boy on the scene who is just for Trina.
