  1. I've been hit and miss about some of the deviations from the book. I wished they would've used Jamie's full speech to Colum at the Gathering. There's also been snippets of conversation between Claire and Jamie that I wish would've stayed. As someone mentioned above, the scene after Dougal and Jamie have their "chat" about using Jamie to drum up support. In the book, I liked that Claire told him he needed to hit something. I wish they would've kept that intact. Just like in the book when she asked him "And you'll let him do it? Let him use you that way." Jamie's response was so succint, "For now." I have to say though, that the deviation that I LOVE with every fiber was the wool waulking scene with the women. I loved the songs they sing and the camaraderie even though she is a Sassanach.
  2. THIS!!! I could not agree more with you about this. In Outlander, it is from Claire's POV and of course she says she's beaten to an inch of her life, but she wasn't. She was pissed that she was spanked. Was it right? In 18th Century standards, I'd agree. With my 21st century sensibilities, I'd say no. In the context of the time, he did not beat her. ETA another thought... I have to say I was more surprised when I was reading the series that Claire wasn't been smacked around given her attitude. Not that I want her to be, but that would not be out of the realm of possibility of the time.
  3. I think what they are playing is called hurling. I loved Mistress Fitz's burn to Iona MacTavish. That was awesome. I said in a previous thread that I love Rupert. I am hoping that a few things he says in the books make it to the show, because I think the actor would do it well. I understand the Geilis love but I just don't.
  4. I enjoyed this episode. My 8 year old son likes it. He doesn't understand most of it, but he likes the theme song and the dirty Scots. Hopefully, he doesn't try them as justification for not bathing. ;) The lighting and cinematography are stunning.
  5. I've been rereading the series, but I read each section of "Outlander" after the episode to see how closely it follows. I understand creative license and am not upset by the changes at all, it's just more of a curiosity than anything else. I like how RM has changed the timeline with some of the scenes with Geillis. Upon rereading though, I find myself hoping that little snippets of dialogue and some one-liners are kept in the show. The ones I'm thinking about at the moment are with Rupert. Even though they are mostly ribald comments in reference to Claire, I always appreciated the humor when reading.
  6. Every time I have watched this scene, I laugh out loud. But I really liked him in the books too. There's a couple lines of his dialogue in the book that I REALLY hope make it to the show.
