  1. RE: The Teaching of Grammar in Grammar School - I teach 2nd and 3rd grade students with learning disabilities. Most of them already speak better than what we see on any of these court shows. Most speech patterns are well established before a child ever sets foot into a kindergarten classroom (wit, wid, or with, for example) and it's a battle for teachers every day to overcome it because the kids eventually leave the classroom and go home, being further exposed to poor language. I have a student whose parents speak very little English, but he can repeat everything SpongeBob says in English perfectly, right down to the cartoon character's annoying voice tone and pronunciation. I have a 3rd grader that has been in my class since he was in 1st grade, and every day we still work on saying "went" instead of "goed". His grandparents think it's oh so adorable, so they never correct him. My local liquor store clerks now know me by name.
  2. I'm finding it extremely annoying that Judge DiMango keeps saying incredible when she means uncredible.
  3. I love them, too! Whenever my spawn decide to air their grievances toward me, I get to say "At least I didn't ruin your future to pay for my cable."
  4. I'm disturbed by the fact that these people actually walk among us.
  5. The African Princess kept saying that the plaintiff was "callin' me out my name." WTF does that even mean?
  6. I like it, too. The thing that drags it out is that she has to explain it three times because the dumbasses either keep interrupting her or argue that she's wrong.
  7. I never liked Mandy, either (I like Moira, though. She was great in One Tree Hill *don't judge me*). Whenever I'm having a good morning (highly unusual for me) I tell people to bring me the finest muffins in the land.
  8. I also found it implausible that Sam wouldn't have known who Leo's daughter was after having been on the campaign trail and in the White House all that time.
  9. My favorite part of the pilot is when Leo meets up with Bonnie when he enters the White House and then bumps into her again at the end of his circuit and picks up the conversation as if they had been together the whole time. I came to TWoP because of American Idol and found the WW thread way too late to participate. WW had always been one of those shows I had intended to watch but was never available when it was on (pre DVR). But let's forget that I'm late to the party and embrace the fact that I showed up at all. :-)

  11. I did find myself wanting to slap the smirk off of his face. I was also annoyed by the daycare case. No one saw anything, except when they did see something they waited 48 hours to address it. Loved the mother complaining that no one was calling her when stuff happened, even though she had signed a form saying she didn't want to be contacted. The final straw was the daycare provider claiming in the hallterview that she was always noticing injuries on the little girl, right after one of the judges pointed out to her that she's a mandated reporter of suspected abuse. They were both shady.
  12. The thing that bothered me about that case was that I feel certain that the guy didn't become a dumbass upon the break up of the relationship with the ex-fiancé. So, she knew about his behavior, with guns and otherwise, but didn't choose to care about it until she could use it against him.
  13. I agree that this guy was a huge dickhead, but I must disagree with MM's assertion that a person leaving a distance of three car lengths between himself and the guy in front of him in stopped traffic just doesn't happen. It happens all the time and it's one of my biggest pet peeves of all times. I see it in the drive thru where moving up a little means the difference of the next person getting to the speaker to order so that there is no unnecessary delay in getting their food. I see it all the time in left or right turn lanes where closing that ridiculously huge gap means that the last guy getting into the lane isn't hanging dangerously into the traffic of the thru lane. And sometimes it does mean that another driver can enter the flow of traffic while everyone is stopped at a light anyway. So, young hot head was definitely a dickhead (and probably for many more reasons than the way he handled this), but the older guy was also a bit of a dickhead because it doesn't hurt anyone to just move the fuck up a little.
  14. I teach 3rd grade students with learning disabilities and one of my boys does this because he's sounding out the words. It's adorable when he does it (although we're working on not doing it). These dumbasses, not so much.
  15. Disco ball dress said her kids live with her mother and she sends them money WHEN SHE CAN! I was hoping the next case would be her mother suing her for putting her money towards her own engagement ring instead of sending it to her kids.
  16. The Grumpy Old Men case was amusing. One thing that I heard on the tape that the judges seemed to miss was the older guy saying "Get back in your car". JJ would have skewered him for not moving along and calling the police.
  17. RE: The dog mother who had to quit her job and Sonia who needs help getting in and out of her house: Did anyone else think that the layout of cottages and common space was the weirdest damn thing you'd ever seen?
  18. I hate the predetermined transitions between the judges. "Judge ridiculous eyebrows is going to ask you questions about...". I think I'd like it better if one judge did all of the questioning and then the others just discussed the issue before the ruling. I think I'd like it even better just hearing JJ do a "think aloud" or bouncing her ideas off of Byrd.
  19. The thing I love most about MM is that she hasn't lost touch with regular working people. I can picture her dealing with contractors and shopping and taking care of her family. The other day, JJ told someone that she understood that a gas smell could come from a pilot light being out, even though she hadn't used an oven in 27 years. I have no trouble believing that. MM just seems real.
  20. God gave you two ears and one mouth for a reason.
  21. I don't think anyone was blaming him for his problems because he was poor. I think they were blaming him for his problems because he seems to be an asshole.
  22. My soul hurts. I'm a special education teacher. I have a 3rd grade student (that I got when he was in 1st grade) whose only real disability is that he's an only child being raised by grandparents who think he shits glitter and rainbows. He's constantly saying things like "I goed to the store." and "We runned on the playground." I spent the first two years modeling and correcting. Now I act like I can't understand what he's saying and he manages to figure out the proper way to say it. Aforementioned grandparents think this is oh so adorable (and it probably was when he was 4) that I'm fighting an uphill battle. I'm wondering if I'll see him/them on JJ someday.
  23. Understanding one's ability to pay or not should apply when making a loan, but hadn't the plaintiff stolen the property? The guy didn't loan her money to purchase it knowing that she couldn't possibly pay it back. I must admit that I was wondering if the defendant was being truthful about what was stolen because that was quite a hefty list of electronics she rattled off.
  24. I have a pretty severe case of IBS (TMI?), and in order to use my FSA card for the probiotics and fiber I go through like candy I have to submit a letter from my doctor saying they are medically necessary every time I submit the receipts. So, I'd love to know how the lavender haired, tatted up, full time student living off of child support and student loans, mother of the year in the case I saw this morning (not sure if it was a rerun or a new episode because my DVR is made by Satan) was able to use her exhusband's Cigna FSA card at McDonalds and Sonic.
