  1. I actually don't mind the nudes/pictures. They remind me of the ESPN Body Issue. I just don't get what it has to do with the clothes. As for Mr West tweeting naked pictures of his wife, talking about how lucky he is: We've all seen her naked, Kanye. You aren't that lucky.
  2. Yeah, privateers were pretty useful in the Spanish, Flemish, English, French etc battle for power. And the term is slippery, one country's privateers is a pirate to another. Francis Drake was one of Elizabeth I's best privateers, to the point that she knighted him. The Spanish king offered 20 000 ducats (or 4 million pounds in today's money) for someone to take him out. Henry Morgan (of rum fame) was one, too. He apparently used priests as human shields and tortured people for info about booty- that's pretty pirate-y. This was a very quiet episode. Whispering chats and fires.
  3. I found Quinto very sexy as Spock. The dude just has something.
  4. "THINK ABOUT ANAL SEX! NOW THAT'S UNCOMFORTABLE!" I love Hannah's parents. The actors are amazing. "Who knows what the future holds?" "Full on anal." "Adam, would you fry up some sausages?" "Sure, I'll fry up some sausages. Everyone here like sausages?" For whatever reason, that really made me laugh. Also "Nah, I'm good with my sponge." And A plus on the reuse of the term "jabroni", Adam. I think girls like Marnie are sent to Earth to torture guys like Ray.
  5. He wasn't exactly "let go". Daniel's verdict of guilty was vacated because the DNA didn't match. That basically means the first trial never happened (under the law.) Because the trial "never happened", the case is still open and the state can have another shot at him.
  6. I love several of Kanye's albums, so him behaving like a tool in public and having people doubt his talent hurts my heart a little (I mean, as much as for anyone who makes their own bed. Hubris, hamartia etc ) I honestly think his mother dying made him go over the deep end. I remember years ago, right around College Dropout and Late Registration, and he was still dating Alexis Phifer, Fashion Television (with Jeanne Beker) interviewed him at a fashion show in Paris or New York, one of the big ones (Marc Jacobs?) Beker asks him "What brings you to this show?" and he smiles and says to Alexis, "Why we here, baby?" and Alexis answered in a very knowledgeable and fashion/design conscious way. And Kanye goes, "And that's why we're here." This is them wandering around Paris during Paris Fashion Week. The difference is pretty amazing.
  7. Given the talk of Paris this season, I'm guessing Show Rollo has got lots of story left. I love how, when not tripping on mushrooms, he's become so philosophical. Also enjoyed Floki accusing Rollo of letting the baptism take when Rollo is being calm and reasonable. Part of Aslaug's attraction to the Wanderer was helping Ivar but I also think part of it was because a man was paying attention to her. Ragnar basically told her he didn't love her earlier in the season, so she might be punishing him. She was neglecting their children (the older ones kept asking Siggy where she was even before they ran off) and also neglecting her duties she was supposed to perform in his place. I also think it's a reference to the story Lagertha told the couple in the first season (when she was acting as leader), where the husband was accusing the wife of getting pregnant by a vagabond who was working on their farm. Lagertha said the vagabond was a god, and the husband should feel grateful to have the son of a god in his house (or something along those lines...) Siggy was absolutely gorgeous in this episode. Every episode, there is at least one scene of breathtaking beauty. This week, it was the scene on the frozen lake.
  8. Greatest breakup speech ever? Lagertha, you guys. Also, RIP Sigs. I love you.
  9. "Don't be sad." Lola to Andre (touching his face....) "Don't be mad." Lola to Hakeem "Don't be scared." Lola to Jamal. This little bit completely psychologically read her uncle-brothers and gave them tailored advice. I love her.
  10. Hannah's mom was pretty much at the end of her tether in general. And in the moment, I'd say she outed Hannah's dad to shut Hannah up (finally.)
  11. From what I understand (from a straight female perspective) gay men are attuned to reading these sorts of things as a way to source prospective partners and also to not approach someone and get their teeth kicked in. It's a sex and survival instinct. Also, some gay men can spot closet cases because they know other closet cases and/or they were closet cases themselves. I remember years ago on Oprah there was an episode about black men who live "on the down low": meaning while they have straight relationships and consider themselves straight, they still have sex with men. The guy on the show said he could pick other "on the down low" guys just by looking at them. Given what I know about Elijah, I'd say he prob evaluates most people he meets as "I would/could sleep with" and "I wouldn't/couldn't sleep with".
  12. “HANNAH. Your father is gay.” heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee And any of the descriptions of theoretical gay sex were really funny, too.
  13. "It's not not about me, Tad." Shosh was hilarious....."I'm going to campaign over here now." In general, hilarious episode. I love Hannah's parents. That piercing part was horrible. And I can't quite believe that someone squealing and saying stop doesn't make the piercer stop. Like, stop. And I don't think Hannah is "inspiring" her students to participate in her classes in a "good teacher" way but rather by relating to them and behaving like one of them. It's superficial and the pierced student just learned a lesson about how Hannah is an asshole.
  14. D'Artagnan- slow your roll, dude. The corpse is barely cold. But that doctor is rather cute, so who knows? Hi Liam Cunningham! "Eleanor has her looks, but also her character. Shrewish and spiteful." Porthos' family is really awful- pimps of child sex slaves? Ew! Murdering the girls, too? Ew! Also, telling girls they can be governesses to nice families is still used today when they are trying to get girls. Take the money, Porthos. It's bigger than Athos', after all. I find it sort of hilarious that the only consistently clever woman on this show is evil. I'm not sure telling Constance about the baby's heritage was maybe not the best idea.
  15. Especially when he could've had Ragnar and Lagertha that one time. That was actually one of my fav Ragnar moments like, "Try it! It's fun!"
  16. Thorstein's whole thing reminded me of that "It's only a flesh wound!" bit from Monty Python. Not that it wasn't totally well done. Him going over the hill and the fog and the archers. It's beautiful. That was Canadian-Inuk throat singer named Tanya Tagaq as the music during that fight. It's little things like that that remind me this is a Canadian co-production. It's nice that Lagertha can speak English now so Athelstan doesn't have to translate while she and Ecbert do it. And that giant bath is fantastic. Athelstan seems really young, but he's really well traveled for a simple monk. I can't care about Judith, but I'm trying. Aslaug, for all her baby making and prophecies, isn't all that bright. I've never been a fan of that character, but why are she telling a large, strange man that all the warriors are away? I loved all the storyteller stuff, though. "I am taaaaaking your pain, Ivar. Go to sleeeeep" "In the meantime, Floki, shut your face."
  17. In some ways I think the fact that the "ok, SING!" aspect of it is that they are trying to get these kids to be able to focus and pull it together and be a pro. Jax wearing the black and blue dress was sort of good and sort of stupid- she sounded fine. Sarina is lovely and that's one of my favourite songs. Tyanna is just cute. Joey sounded good, but is one of the ones that needs to pull it together. I would argue that this crop isn't any more or less talented, and I don't think, overall, the talent took a nose dive post season 8. Especially since Adam Lambert, Alison Iraheta, Crystal Bowersox, Kree Harrison and Candice Glover came later on in the series. And goodbye Shi- you have a decent voice. But go figure out who you are.
  18. Seriously, does she not have another crucifix to give Baby Daddy that wasn't given to her by Rochefort? That shit is cold, Anne. Also, Aramis and Anne getting so smoochy around each other in front of Marguerite last week was not bright. Now you've pissed her off and she's getting black mailed. I kind of love what a dandy Porthos is. And there was some quality Athos/Porthos detective work. I liked the villains this week. Constance/D'Artagnan. Trying to care.
  19. Oh Vane. You and your little band of pirates would have no shot against the greatest navy the world ever saw. Ask people. They'd tell you. Who do you think trained all those badass pirates? It defeated Spain. More than once. They can take you. Give up the fort, get a ship and trade with Eleanor in the new Nassau. She'll probably even let you have sex with her.
  20. This show. Rollo trippin' on mushrooms and hacking up the English because of the angle of a leg was amazing. The heads on the boat, and a pan down to a smiling Ragnar. All the blood. Lagertha looked especially beautiful this episode, but I really wish various men would stop trying to use and double cross her. I say this every week, but the music, the costumes, the whole feel of this show is beautiful. "It is so beautiful, dwarves must have made it. We don’t have dwarves in England. Of course you do. You just don’t see them." Also, Kwenthrith back story was interesting and creepy (to the point Ragnar didn't know what to do with that information). And it explains erratic behaviour and her overt sexual boundary crossing (which can sometimes be an indication of sexual abuse.) I also like her teaching Rollo the word "No!" and he and Torstein saying it to each other. Heee.
  21. I love the heck out of this kid. I agree with the Lenny comparison, and the Adam Lambert- Adam brought drama/fashion, but he also brought the chops to back it up and played the show the best of just about any contestant. Like every week was a mini-Adam Lambert concert. Hopefully, Quentin does the same. He also reminds me a little of D'Angelo. If he or Clark covered "Untitled (How does it feel)", I wouldn't be mad at it.
  22. I was being generous with New, but yeah, part of it is her.
  23. This show needs better writing. I like the chemistry of the cast (esp the Musketeers) but it's not zinging like it should. And Porthos, who is my favourite, needs to be used more creatively. He's got all that presence and physicality and they don't use him. Love snarky Athos. I liked Constance and D'Artagnan last season, but their reunion this episode just made me roll my eyes. I love you. You're so brave. I'm married. I don't care anymore that I'm married. And around and around it goes. And whoever is doing the hair for the women needs to be smacked around.
  24. I just power watched the whole series. Toby Stephens is a dish- gay pirate/bi pirate/sad pirate- dish. I've seen him around in stuff and am reminded- his Mr Rochester was the first time I've been attracted to that character in a Jane Eyre movie. I normally find Rochester to be a drag in most productions, but Stephens was hot. I was like "Go get him, Jane." And he's Maggie Smith's son, which is always nice to remember. Because of course a woman that awesome gives birth to a hot son. I suspected something was up, I think sometime around the time he told his superior that Thomas insisted on Flint calling him by his first name, I thought of it being romantic. I don't know if his sad sex with Miranda in season 1 meant he's gay (because he is also a sad pirate- he might not be sad because he's having sex with a woman, but because he's generally sad.) I actually wouldn't mind for the character to be bi, just because I think it would be interesting to show nuance in portraying the complex ways people are in sexual relationships. Eleanor is bi, Max is gay (straight for pay), Anne is bi- And also ha ha to the person who previously noted that all the women were bi and none of the men were. There was the moment with Eleanor in the first season where he kisses her forehead. There is a weird lingering and hint of a sexual thing, and I'm not sure if that was a fake out or whether it meant something. Speaking of, she needs to pull it together and stop huffing around in a snit. They need to write her stronger, more steely.
  25. Hannah teaching private school teenagers is going to be horrible. And maybe awesome. I still love Mimi-Rose. I found her nonchalant mention of the abortion to be interesting and I thought Adam behaved the way many dudes would've. I sort of wondered why she would've mentioned it to him in the first place, but I think it was her way of spelling out perfectly clearly her boundaries. It might not work out between them, but I think having the character explore the idea of being with someone because they want them around and think they are neat rather than needing them as a caretaker. Of course Marnie and Mumford do it to their own music. Of course. "I am so happy for you and Jeremy and Simon, Scott. 'Harvard alum makes good,' that is such an exciting story! Do you mind if I write about it for Holy Shit magazine?!" this was my favourite Shoshana moment ever. And a much more articulated way of expressing what I often think when I read about start ups.
