formerlyfreedom February 28, 2019 Share February 28, 2019 Stephen Dorff Inks Rich Deal To Star In eOne’s Fox Pilot ‘Deputy’ Quote Stephen Dorff, coming off his starring turn on True Detective, has been tapped to headline Fox’s police drama pilot Deputy from Bright helmer David Ayer, Aquaman writer Will Beall and eOne; in what may be the biggest talent deal so far this broadcast pilot season... Written by Beall and directed by Ayer, Deputy centers on Deputy Bill Hollister (Dorff), a career lawman who’s very comfortable kicking down doors and utterly lost in a staff meeting. But when the LA County Sheriff drops dead, Bill becomes acting sheriff of Los Angeles County, in charge of 10,000 sworn deputies policing a modern Wild West. Link to comment
formerlyfreedom March 10, 2019 Author Share March 10, 2019 ‘Deputy’: Yara Martinez & Brian Van Holt To Co-Star In Fox Drama Pilot Quote Martinez will play Hollister’s wife, Dr. Paula Reyes, a trauma surgeon. Strong-willed yet sensitive, she’s a good match for her husband. Van Holt will play Deputy Cade Walker. A former Marine who served in Afghanistan and is eight years sober, Cade works MAJORS — “the Delta Force of the LASD.” He’s tough, with a highly developed gallows humor. Link to comment
formerlyfreedom May 9, 2019 Author Share May 9, 2019 Picked up by Fox. Quote Fox just made its first new series pickups, ordering four of its six drama pilots to series. That includes cop/serial killer drama Prodigal Son, starring Tom Payne and Michael Sheen; John Slattery’s AI drama neXt; police drama Deputy, headlined by Stephen Dorff; and the Annie Weisman/Jason Katims sister drama; based on an Australian format. Police drama Deputy has been praised for Dorff’s acting and the directing work of Bright helmer David Ayer. eOne secured Dorff in what might be the biggest talent deal so far this broadcast pilot season. Dorff will reportedly be paid north of $200,000 an episode. If the show goes to a second season, Dorff would become an executive producer. In conjunction with his casting in Deputy, Dorff made a feature script development deal with eOne to develop and star in a movie, which would be produced by Ayer and Chris Long’s Cedar Park Entertainment. Raja April 4, 2020 Share April 4, 2020 (edited) It was worth it for Sheriff Bill's speeches and watching the real life political cancel culture reactions. The plots themselves would have worked better if anywhere but Los Angeles as a setting. A nice suburban community say the Riverside County Sheriff or some county in New Mexico. The real life model for Hollister, Sheriff Villenueva has just had a title stripped by the LA County Board of Supervisors as the emergency coordinator and the county will not pay home quarantined deputies under special COVID Family First Coronavirus Response Act but force them to use their regular sick leave. An action some see as a political to strip the line deputy away from support of their Sheriff as the Board and Sheriff are in a low intensity conflict as was done on the show.. shapeshifter April 4, 2020 Share April 4, 2020 I rarely if ever care if a show is canceled, but I am curious about whether the current economic collapse is causing cancellations that would not have happened otherwise. 1 Link to comment

I've actually seen speculation that it could be the opposite for some shows, as there's no guarantee that new pilots will get filmed. And it would be easier to pickup a known quantity that already has a set vs. a new show that may not even have a pilot. But who knows. 1 4 Link to comment

Especially with Deputy as one of those shows shot offsite away from Hollywood or the busy studios like Atlanta or Toronto. The one show in Hawaii, the one in New Mexico the one in New Orleans etc with the special tax deals would have a better chance to come back if they pulled in anywhere near enough advertising revenue. 1 Link to comment
